[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of these few months. Because not everyone is into parties, ok. Characters who are not currently squired in may also post, as their characters are living in the castle awaiting their ceremonies. This takes place after the Knights have returned from rescuing Gar in New York City, but before the planned Keijen Blade concert at the beginning of 2017.

You could say that. [he's not sure if he wants to speak his mind, but he can't not say anything.] It's been hard readjusting to being here. I've been back a year, but I still feel like I don't belong. [one of the reasons he left the first time]

Where do you think this comes from? [ the question seems to stem from less curiosity, and more an invitation for derek to reflect on it himself ]

I think part of it is because I was here, and then left and was gone for a long time, people don't feel that I'm here to stay, and so they don't wish to get to know me.

[part of it is because he's a loner and doesn't make a lot of effort to get to know people either...]

Do you think you've done anything that might change that impression they have?

Beyond the one local mission, I've stayed here and tried to be present. I just never was very sociable to begin with. I've been a loner for a long time.

And yet you've secured the affection of those who might care when you leave.

My sister, yeah. But the others... it's more that they care about me because of a past I can't remember.

What would you like from them?

I don't know. That's one of the problems.

What do you want for yourself, is perhaps the more important problem to solve.

What I would really like is to find a way to have the veil give me back my memories.

You could perhaps work with our scientists, but I will warn you that after all these many long years, I've never seen any evidence that such a thing can occur.

Maybe it would be worth it to some people though if they could get even just a face or something back from their past. Especially people like me who have nothing.

I'm sure it would, however I merely wish to give you a realistic idea of what you may face in seeking such a thing.

If you had the choice to keep the veil open so creatures like me would be able to keep our connection to our powers or close it so that no more beings would fall through... and you had to choose, what would you do?

I believe there's a value in the Veil as it stands. And magic, with it, even in this world.

Even if it continues to hurt people by pulling them away from their homes, their lives - or bringing monsters here that hurt the people here?

By creating a permanent portal back to other worlds, we would have a way to reunite those families.

[one of his eyebrows lifted at that]

I thought that wasn't possible.

It is something I have long sought. One of our Knights may hold the key. She's made a breakthrough of sorts, although there is much to be done to realize her vision.

[he thought on that a moment because something like this could give people a way home. Derek knew he wouldn't leave without his sister, but it could help others who needed to be back in their worlds. Ones who couldn't adjust well here.]

If there is any way I can help in that, I would be glad to help.

She'll need the assistance of those well versed in intensive scientific theory, I'm afraid. But I'll inform her of your interest in case she thinks of anything.
