venice ♔ to remove the stain of my love

With Dumage MIA and not responding to her phone, the girls quickly got ready for an evening at the home of the exceptionally talented singer who had dragged them in front of the audience at Notturno. Gar looks nice, if subtly so, in a mid-length red dress and simple make-up (11 Disguise check ~~which is what I use for people prettyifying up~~). Kat's own attempts to do her make-up when left unaided in the bathroom left her coming out looking like Rocky Raccoon, unhappily smeared in blush and metallic eyeshadows (crit fail :( ), but after the other girls helped salvage her (15), she looks really pretty, though still not wearing anything remotely close to a dress. Ever.

The girls take a ride outside of town, driving through Veneto at breakneck speeds, because someone let Kat drive (check 17). What should be an hour's journey takes them half that time, and they pull up to the impressive sight of a dual story white and red villa that all but screams luxury.

yes, gar is the horse whisperer. she too puts out a hand and the thing trots right over, and immediately sticks its nose in her hand. she smiles brilliantly, obviously thrilled, scratching him under his chin, and then petting his mane. ]

Mist? After the Mist, or ...?

[ he looks at her curiously. ] Like the Veil mist? [ a shake of his head ] No, no. It is more like... a, how do you say... haze, si? [ he nods towards the open door leading into the stables ] Isabella's horse is inside: Stella Viola. She is a new mother, if you would like to see the foal.

Fo-schia [Myri tries the name out on her tongue. The languages of this world are beautiful, but so much to learn. She perks at the idea of seeing a newborn horse.]

If you don't think strangers would frighten the little one.

Isabella's not gonna ... have some kind of conniption if we look at it, right?

[ Buffy's question evokes an amused grin, and he waves a hand, chuckling. ] No, no, it is nothing. She would be glad for you to see it. [ he disappears inside, and gar reluctantly pries herself away from the horse, as kat grabs her by the elbow and draws her in the door after him.

it's not the largest stable, but for what appears to just be the three horses, it's spacious, clean, and built from expensive wood paneling. rafael moves to the farthest stall, shoving his hands in his pockets as his eyes fixate on a shape they can't see from where they waltz in.

he opens his mouth to speak but the only sound audible is a sudden high-pitched SCREEEEEE. there's a rush of wings, and suddenly a blur of brown and white descends from the ceiling, directly down towards myri and buffy. rafael bolts towards them, the smile dropping off his face instantly, as he shouts in a commanding tone: ]

SORTO! NO!

[ at the last moment, the bird arcs up and away from them, letting out another caw, before moving to perch on top of the wooden beam above the stalls. The beautiful bird leers down at them with angry eyes, its beak working open and closed, obviously worked up still. ]

[ meanwhile, there's an appallingly loud crash behind the girls, the source of which was kat... who had jumped so much at the sudden dive bombing hawk that she'd crash landed in a pile of buckets. she's still holding gar's arm, who helps her up, and it looks like only her pride is wounded as she grudgingly says: ] I'm ok! Nothing to ... see here...

[Myri ducks her head slightly as the bird descends, but she's actually more startled by Rafael's exclamation. A reflex save of 18 will keep her on her feet, but she does step back to try to avoid being crashed into by the bird. Her attention is quickly brought to Kat and Gar at the sound of the crash.

So much happening at once!

Myri steps over to her Knight, one hand over her mouth. It may be difficult to tell if she's concerned or trying not to laugh.]

It would seem there are animal companions of all sorts can be found here.

[ buffy raises her arms as the bird approaches, ducking just before it turns out of the way, but doesn't freak beyond that, looking up to stare at it as it lands, then over at kat who is getting her way out of the buckets. she turns to rafael. ]

Sorto. It has a name? [ she glowers at the bird a little. ] I thought pets were supposed to be nice.

I have never seen him like this before. [ rafael looks concerned, mouth set in a line as he looks up at the bird, and then gives some strict sounding commands in italian, holding out his arm. the bird, however, won't even budge, letting out another SCRAWWW noise, shifting its feet on its perch ] Sorto.

[ kat gives myri a grateful little half-smile as she clambers up fully, looking up at the bird ruefully ]

I'm pretty sure I saw this Hitchcock movie. He doesn't have several hundred friends, does he?

He is the only bird we own. [ he's still staring up at it, obviously really disturbed by the hawk's bizarre behavior. but he gestures for them to walk around behind him towards where the last pen is. ] Perhaps he is throwing a conniption on Isabella's behalf. We will be quick, then.

[ as kat and gar slip around that way, both wary of the bird still following all their movements with an evil eye, isabella's horse would come into view. And a pretty thing she is, too, lighter in color than Rafael's, with shockingly white hair instead of black. And hobbling up on little shaking legs is this guy. Say awww. ]

[Myri does as Rafael asks, not too bothered by the bird, no matter how strangely disgruntled it may be. She follows after Kat and Gar and leans over the pen, towards the young horse.]

They're stunning.

Does he always share her temperament? [ buffy's too distracted by the bitchy bird to focus on the horses. what the hell is making it divebomb central? ]

I don't remember the last time he was so angry, no. [ the bird resolutely won't move, no matter how much he entreats, so he gives up trying, just keeping a half eye on it. ] I apologize. Perhaps something frightened him before we came in.

[ muttered: ] If I do end up getting a familiar, someone remind me to take 'bird' off the candidate list.

[ LA LA LA talking loudly over Kat ] As Myrilandel said: your horses are quite beautiful. Does the foal have a name yet?

[ that draws rafael's attention, and he shakes his head, giving a small smile. ] None yet. Perhaps one of you has a suggestion?

Oh, we couldn't. [Myri says, looking up at him.] A name is so personal. You'll find one, in time.

Guess you can't really let the mom name it, huh? Unless you want a horse named "Neigh."

It is likely we will sell the bambino sometime. Two horses is enough for the two of us. [ he looks up to see Sorto still glaring down and sighs, before nodding out the door on this end of the barn ] Perhaps I can show you a different sort of ride. [ there's a hint of mischief in his tone, and without waiting, he slides out that way, and kat shrugs and follows. as she does so, she makes an 'i'm watching you' motion with two fingers from her eyes towards the bird. it lets out one last caw as she disappears, with gar following her. ]

[Myri just looks confused. And this is one of those moments when it's probably for the best that she doesn't understand euphemisms, otherwise she might wonder if this was about to get weird...

Italian five way, anyone?

But since she doesn't think that way, Myri just heads off with the rest of them, wondering what extraordinary thing Rafael will show them next.]

[ buffy is apparently the only person who is thinking about group sex right now but that's okay because things that buffy thinks don't stay in her head so she won't be the only one for too long ... she's practically staggering out after them, looking very perplexed. ]

Oh, we're not -- I mean, we're not actually big on the group sex. I realize being American groupies and all, this may come as a surprise, but we're just -- we're sort of cutting back on orgy time.

[ rafael turns on a heel to stare at her with obvious shock at her pronouncement.

after an awkward beat, he says: ]

... You thought I brought you here to have sex with you all?

[ wat. ]

I'll scream rape.

I... I think there's been some sort of terrible ... misunderstanding. [ she says as she ... buttons up her top button. ]
