[ It's not until Buffy's a bit more settled in and Jack's returned from some business that he's able to hold true to his promise to set up a meeting for her with the head of the Hellsing family. So one foggy London January morning, he drives her out to the Hellsing manor. The estate is intimidating on its own, though obviously not to the scale of the Knight's castle. It does, however, make up for it in the menacing aura that seems to hang about the entire exterior of the manor.

Jack pulls the car up to the front gate, and announces himself to the guard stationed there. After the soldier confirms it over headset, he waves them through, and the gates clatter open. ]

[ jack nods and integra's eyes narrow as if she has a feeling what's coming next. it feels a great deal as if she's ordering buffy to continue WITH JUST HER EYES. ]

[ at jack's encouragement, buffy looks back at sir hellsing and continues. ] I met a man in New Orleans. He found me in an alley, called himself "Mr. Gray." He knew all about me, about - about these nightmares I have, about vampires. He called me a 'demon slayer.'

This man: did he offer to recruit you, train you in the use of these powers of yours?

I - No. Not really. He just seemed like he knew everything about them, but I - I hadn't told anybody. I mean, I don't even know what they are. [ she fidgets. ] That's what I thought it was, at first. Him trying to ... recruit me, or whatever. But he didn't want anything from me. Just wanted me to know about my "potential."

Hmm. [ her eyes narrow, as if she's displeased by the account. ] Sir Chessing tells me that you've run afoul of an Iscariot agent. He said nothing to indicate that he was aware of your potential either?

Alexander Anderson. And unless his awareness was communicated via the whole repeated stabbing thing, not that I could tell. He wasn't interested in me.

Then you're quite fortunate. [ which sure sound callous when you're talking about getting stabbed ] Iscariot makes a point of attempting to 'collect' those with a talent such as you possess, to attempt to convert them to their ideology and train them as agents.

I almost killed my friend. [ she doesn't stop thinking about arthur, not ever. nor spike, in nightscape. ] It's not a talent.

But if you seem to know so much about it, what ... what is it? What am I? I'm not human, obviously.

Your ability [ she switches the word with ease ] has no bearing on your humanity. Humans have been born with this 'sight' for ages past, although it continues to be astonishingly rare. Considering that Iscariot also specializes in hunting down demonic threats, you can see why they are so keen to recruit any prospective hunters who may be able to actually see their enemy.

You're telling me that I'm human. What I can do, my strength, and speed, and - Seeing things. The dreams. They're all just some ... "sight"?

I've never heard of other abnormalities appearing in conjunction with the power. You're certain they're connected?

Considering the dreams are about killing evil nasties, yeah, I've got a feeling. [ the sharp snarkiness of her tone fades and she sombers up. ] It's like - When I fight monsters, it's like I remember how. You know muscle memory? Like ... Like I'm made for it. And every abnormality I have makes it easier to do.

Is there any chance you were modified? Iscariot has been known to genetically alter their agents - experiment with them to increase their physical limits to make them stronger, faster, better at dispatching their prey of choice.

I don't - [ she shakes her head and looks down as her voice chokes off. ] I don't know. I don't remember anything before the Veil, except ... except my name. And ... the dreams. They're like ... like I'm remembering, except it's not me. I'm someone else. [ she purses her lips together, finding the right words, and then declares; ] I don't know what's wrong with me. I was hoping ... hoping maybe you would, since you deal with this stuff.

[ jack puts a hand on her shoulder as integra looks her over from behind her steel frames ] Hm.

There are ways for us to tell if you've been genetically enhanced, if you wish to submit to testing on the subject, but I don't claim to have encountered anything quite like what you're describing before.

[ with no preamble whatsoever, a deep chuckle resounds through the wall, and within a few moments, a figure steps through it. he's uncannily tall - as tall as anderson was - and unfolds himself to his full height once he's done breaking the laws of physics and reality. dressed in a long red overcoat over a Victorian style gray suit, his jet black hair doesn't rest under its usual red hat today, flying wildly about his pale face instead. most noticeable, however, are his hypnotic blood eyes, slitted and reptilian, something within them conveying a fragile thread of sanity when combined with his manic grin. ]

Well, well. [ his voice is as resonant as his laughter, and there's a mocking, superior undertone beneath all his words. ] What an interesting visitor.

Who the hell are you?

[ buffy bristles, feeling instant discomfort with the newcomer (wis 17). trying to figure out why he sparks the unease, her eyes rivet on him to the point that she seems to hardly be aware integra and jack are still in the room. ]

[ he lets out an amused snort, practically gliding with his long smooth strides to stand beside integra. ]

I see Wynnefalshond's knights haven't lost that sense of righteous indignation they love so very well. [ a pair of yellow glasses appears between his white gloves fingers and he slides them up his nose, pausing before covering his eyes to stare meaningfully back at buffy, that derisive smile never leaving his face ]

[ ALUCARD, NO BISCUIT ]

Sir Summers, allow me to introduce the Hellsing family's most valuable weapon: the vampire Alucard.

[ there's definite pride in her voice, even if she seems slightly annoyed by his intrusion, and if anything, the irritation she evinces causes him to grin more widely at her side. ]

The vampire. [ her tone and expression sharpen, like that instills a great deal more censure than she'd already shown. her arms cross decisively over her chest. ] He doesn't look so tough.

[ her words make his grin turn positively wolfish, but integra speaks up quickly before he can get any not-too-bright ideas. ]

I assure you, he gets the job done.

Well, unless he wants to contribute something more than speculating about how interesting I am, I don't think he really needs to be here, do you?

I wanted to take stock of this vampire slayer for myself.

[ there's a strange manic glee in his eyes as he surveys her, and she gets the unnerving sensation that he can see straight into her heart. maybe even further.

he emits a low, amused murmuring sound. ] Ahhh. Yes. I see.

I thought you said she was human.

[ the comment causes both jack and integra to start a bit, and she turns to look at him sharply and demands: ] If you know something, Alucard, spit it out.

[ that jackal grin never fades for a moment, as he says provokingly, hellish eyes locked on hers: ] It takes a true monster to recognize another.
