[ Today's the fourth of July, and the city is bustling with happy, smiling citizens on their way to watch fireworks tonight with their loved ones. And then there's the Corvette of people sailing through traffic with almost desperate abandon, as Des steers his way through the city with a basically heartwrenching nat 20 drive check towards the hospital. Rafael lets Violet sit on his lap in the passenger bucket seat, but he doesn't say a word as he stares forward grimly, lost inside his thoughts entirely the whole way there.

They make startling time. There's another car of Knights on the way, but lagging quite a bit behind by the time Des pulls into a spot right up front. ]

[des raises an eyebrow.] Besides the obvious reasons? I know it was stressful as hell, but c'mon.

[Myri's innocent wisdom check of 11 doesn't really understand what Des is getting at there so she just addresses Finnick's question.]

She had a nightmare. Another one. [Her eyebrows raise slightly because she sure does know that you found her friend waking up screaming the other night and didn't say anything.]

[oh precious baby myri. finnick knows exactly what des is implying, and only now realizes the error of his ways.]

It's not like that. [sighhhh. then he directs his attention at myri and looks all concerned. HE DIDN'T REALIZE HE WAS SUPPOSED TO TELL HER EVERY LITTLE DETAIL OF HIS LIFE OK >:( ] Did she say what about?

How can anyone have good dreams right now? [He gets up to... Go get more food. Talk amongst yourselves for a second.]

[Myri watches Des go, focused on him until she can tell that he's just going to get back in line. Once satisfied, she turns back to Finnick.]

Keijen and the... other that she told everyone about at the hotel. [She wraps her arms around herself, still having a hard time imagining Violet being the next target.] Whatever it is that they're doing, they're coming for her in her sleep. That's why I brought her back to our room. I didn't want to leave her alone.

[Or him. Which is why she didn't just stay in Violet's bed, but instead made it a group adventure. She hopes he understands that much, because it's important to her at this point, after everything.]

Right, right. [he pinches the bridge of his nose and sighs. this is way too much to deal with right now. maybe if he had like 50 more hours of sleep.] I knew that much. I just hope she doesn't decide to seek out either of them alone. She said she wouldn't, but she lied to me when I talked about seeking him out in the first place. [ok maybe it was more of a lie of omission but STILL.]

[witchwoman]

We'll have to watch her. [Myri wishes that she could trust all of her friends not to run into danger, but... she knows better.] She'll want to keep us out of it.

We can't just sit back and wait for them to find her, though. And I can't stand to see her as terrified as she was last night. We have to do something.

Absolutely, and I don't think sharing the bed with her is going to cut it. Have you got any ideas?

No, not really. I wanted to talk to Kat about it, since Violet seems to think that it has something to do with Jade's necklace. There must be some sort of magic involved.

[A magic that she doesn't understand, so she feels a little helpless about the whole thing.]

[omg why are we talking about magic again. no more fucking magic. can we just not .o.]

I saw Jade drop her necklace after she regained her memories. It broke. And that didn't change anything...?

[She shakes her head.]

I don't know much about it. I only found her last night and then we obviously all heard her explanation today. [Which only made partial sense because Vi has her own way of explaining things.] Maybe the necklace was just a way to get- like an infection. [Healer perspective, yo.]

[he almost says something like "WELL YOU'RE A HEALER FIX IT X(" but he's nicer than that and myri really doesn't need to be getting any more ideas in her head tbh.] I just don't understand how a necklace could do that. And then keep doing it after it's gone.

Magic. [And Des is back with a plate piled high with various gross hospital foodstuffs. And a soda. He is pointedly not looking at them, like he caught the tailend of that and doesn't want them to see how pained he looks.] The bad kind.

[He's not comfortable talking about Jade's deal in too much depth right now, but he can give that much.]

[Myri is too worried about Violet to pick up on Des' emotional distress (wis 7) but she does grow a little curious about what he might know.]

Did she..? [She rethinks that question a little too late] Do you know what they want?

[well finnick certainly picked up on it (wis 19) but he figures it's just ... jade emotions. he was the one who had to sit next to them while they were making out on the make out balcony, ok. but he's not myri and therefore is too done for life right now to try any sort of comforting. currently he's just staring at des, waiting to be exasperated by more magic bullshit.]

[Des shrugs.] She went to them. That's all I know. [(bluff 29, because he's a beast)]

[Myri doesn't think she has a reason to distrust him (sense motive 11). But the fact that he doesn't know more only causes more worry to crease into her features.]

We'll need to find out as much as we can. Else she's likely to run off soon to try to keep us out of danger.

[finnick didn't feel extraordinarily doubtful either (sense motive 14), so.] Do you think there's a way to make them come to us? We could probably get Keijen, anyway. Dumage has been spending all her time with him.

There might be. And we've gotta draw Chad out sometime. Trying to lure one of the lackeys out might bring the big fish right to us. [He shovels more food into his mouth.

A beat, since he's missed the important part of the conversation.] Wait. She who?

[witchwoman]

[Keeping track of who knows what just makes Myri's head hurt. THIS IS WHY EVERYONE SHOULD JUST TELL EVERYONE ELSE THEIR SHIT.]

Violet. She's like Jade. A daughter of... [She glances around, suddenly uncertain if she should be talking about this out in the open.] They're after her now.

Didn't we talk about this earlier?

I'm sorry I walked away from the conversation. I'm just making sure we're on the same page. [SHUT UP, FINNICK. HE HAS A LOT OF INNER TURMOIL. And macaroni. He forgets things.]

Anyway, if Violet wants to do this, then I say we let her.

[witchwoman]

[Myri just sort of stares with mouth agape for a moment, because R U SRS, DESCANT???]

Let her?! [She jumps slightly, as if she's going to stand or... lunge across the tale, but she keeps herself seated. Her voice, however raises.] She wants to go after them on her own. [And where once Myri might have gone mama bear and tried to be intimidating, she is just shaking and trying not to fall apart at the idea of letting those monsters have Violet.]

[he fixes des with his dead-eyed stare of disapproval that's been seeing exponentially more usage over the last day-ish.]

It's not about letting her, it's about letting her go on her own.

[i like to imagine finnick and myri scolded him at the same time so they could emphasize "on her own" at the same time...]

[Des looks between the two of them. He looks like a chipmunk with his mouth full of food like that. Also y'all are becoming one of Those Couples. After a second, he swallows.] Look, the girl wants to go and she wants to do it alone. If you insist on being her entourage, she'll sneak out and do it herself, anyway, and it'll probably blow Dumage's cover and screw us all over. If you give her the okay and then follow her, then she'll have back-up and maybe someone can nab Blade before he nabs her.
