Never a dull moment.

The night of the funeral was certainly eventful: as expected, some of Chad's goons appeared at the cemetery, apparently in search of the buried necklace, and the Knights barely managed to escape with their lives thanks to the appearance of a giant dune-winder worm at the beck and call of a necromancer. Yep. The other team had their own share of adventure at the hotel, and though they couldn't get Nadia to leave with them, they did establish contact, and swiped Decker Greenwall's mysterious hourglass artifact from his room at Dumage's prompting. They also ran afoul of a doppelganger in the employ of the other side, who prompted Elena to begin questioning exactly who or what she might be...

And of course, they finally met with Rafael's lawyer, a last minute replacement for Burt's usual guy, who had met with an unfortunate skiing accident or... something. Jeggred 'Jaka' Teken'Duis, and his brother Nym, garnered a great deal of suspicion from the team from the start, although Jaka seems entirely confident that he can get Rafael off on a temporary insanity plea. Either way, he's agreed to help them look for clues to try to illustrate Chad's role in events at the upcoming trial, and suggested, to that end, breaking into his Chicago office, one of many not-quite-legal suggestions he hinted at during their pow-wow.

All those Knights who are looking to assist him are meeting up with Jaka in a parking garage a few blocks away from the NOVA building, at his invitation.  In fact, he's already there, leaning against his car, when they arrive.

[ jaka's tight smile says he HATES THE GROUPIES THING AS MUCH AS BUFFY or probably more, but w/e w/e, not gonna be seen agreeing with the humans about... anything. off they go down the sidewalk. ] I'm certain it will. [ SPOT CHECKS, PEOPLE. ]

[ Well, someone needed to say it. Dawn barely pauses to marvel at the appearance and disappearance of that shotgun into Archer's jacket. But she's still keep her eyes open, so spot 21. ]

[Archer got a... 5. So he sees nothing... Or does he...]

[ buffy, myri, vi and dawn see a dark flash of movement in an alleyway as they pass, a strange shadow that moves too fast and seems rather large. that in itself isn't entirely suspicious - but myri notices about half a block down that part of the building above them seems to be moving... and is in fact a giant white spider the size of a car blending against the stucco of the building as it creeps along, following them about fifteen stories up. its mandibles look twice the size of a regular spider's in ratio to its head. ]

[Immediately, Myri reaches out and grabs Buffy by the arm. Buffy would be the one best suited to know how to deal with a creature like that, after all. But she doesn't try to keep her voice down when she points up at the building.]

Do you see that? Up on the building. It's... [She casts a wary glance to Jaka, very suspicious.] What is it? [And in another mind boggling course of events, Myri goes into full Mama Bear mode and rolled a fucking nat 20 to add intimidation to that harsh demand for information. Don't fuck with her family.]

It's a what, Myri? Because I am thinking Slenderman and that isn't exactly a thought I want to be having. [Why why why did you cut yourself off, don't you know that makes it 1000 times more ominous?]

[ jaka follows her pointing, but at the sound of Myri's raised voice, the spider goes entirely still, and its camouflage brings it to a hide check of... 44. He frowns at Myri, looking at her almost as if he thinks she may be touched in the head, but trying not to be too blunt about that suspicion, because she's a little terrifying. ] ... it's a building, yes.

What is it?

[ because of all people to doubt someone seeing something that isn't there, BUFFY IS THE LAST PERSON WITH THE RIGHT TO DO SO. so she may not see the spider, but after catching those shadows and feeling altogether creeped, she's taking myri at her word. but she does have to wonder - if it is a demon, why can't she see it? she holds onto myri's arm, trying to follow her gaze but seeing only the building. ]

[Myri's no liar, and she wouldn't be startled by shadows, so Elena draws her gun, because hell yes she finally has a weapon with her, geez.]

Not the building, the-! [She turns and looks back but the spider has disappeared (spot 28).] It was just there... [She looks to her friends.] A spider! It was massive, crawling along the building. I know I saw it...

A big, massive spider is stalking us? Well that is great. [Except for not, she is getting kind of sick of spiders and the King of just badgering her. It's rude to bother her friends, too. She looks over at the lawyer guy and frowns.] The joke just follows you around, doesn't it?

[Archer looks from Elena's gun, to the building]

I don't think that gun's big enough to kill a building, Elena...
Damnit I KNEW we should have brought the bomb with.

[ jaka scans the buildings with a disaffected expression, but then looks over at elenas gun and raises an eyebrow. ] If something is stalking us, it's better to not alert it to the fact that we know it's there. Though it may be a bit late for that now.

We should return to the parking garage. I have some... supplies in my vehicle that may come in handy, and I don't imagine we want to be seen in a scuffle on the streets.

Flamethrower. [She says it tiredly, but man she wants one of those still. She shakes her head.] We're supposed to be sneaking into the office, if we turn back now then we're going to have half as much time before the guys get caught. [She just... assumes they will. (Sorry.) ] If some of us go back to the garage, then some of us should keep going.

Buffy, would you like to accompany Mr... Teken'duis [Yeah that name is a mouthful for her still] to retrieve the supplies? [She tries to say more without saying it. Buffy is the only one amongst them that Myri believes could fight the man, should the need arise. She's worried about the squires, first and foremost.] I'm sure a smaller group would move faster and I have no doubt you could catch up to us quickly.

[Archer takes a quick nip from his flask.]
On an entirely related side-note; would it be too much trouble for everyone to just... come prepared for this shit ahead of time.

I'll take Teken'duis back to the car. The rest of you, hurry. There's no telling what kind of trouble those three idiots are already in, and the last thing we need is for the rescue team to get waylaid on account of giant spider. [ she looks between myri and elena because they're ... obviously the most responsible people in this party. ]

Come on, ducklings. [Which is all Violet offers before setting off the way they were originally headed before SpiderGate just assuming the rest of mini team sneaky will follow.]

[Archer snickers at the notion of a giant spider.]

Whatever it was, it's probably on bath salts - so don't let it near your face.

[ jaka takes one more casual glance up at the building to no avail, shrugs, and heads back up the block without waiting on buffy.

meanwhile, the other team continues on their merry way in the other direction, and will need one more set of spot checks eventually. ]
