[ the pendergast manor is a sprawling sight, impressive even to those who live in the world's most ridiculously sized castle. the whole place has a sort of country club air, and white gloved butlers escort the little troupe of knights through the halls, past expensive paintings and all the other old money trappings. ]

As requested. [Thoster gives her a wink.] Don't worry, lass. We're very good at what we do.

[Which I suppose is a stretch of the truth, since Thoster doesn't even know half of the people here... But he gets a bluff of 26 to be VERY CONVINCING.]

Why don't you tell us what you know about what we're looking out for so we can do what we came here to do.

Also, it'd be nice to get a tour of the place before a lot of people turn up, so we know our way around.

she slides off the table to her feet and sashays past them all, crooking a finger over her shoulder for them to follow without looking back.

"Fine, let's walk and talk. I've been getting some really creepy stalker notes in the mail for like, months, but it was just right before my folks contacted you all that I found the first note in my bedroom." ]

[Thoster follows, happy to have a bit more of the story- especially if it's going to be a good one.]

I take it you haven't been able to find out how it is they got in there?

[Phineas starts and stops a few times, appearing a little flustered, before he blurts out;]

I... suppose it's a bit off-humor to ask, but... Do you know of anyone else... erm... who... may have had... access to your room... around that timeframe?

phineas' insinuations fly way over her head, it seems.

"Well, I mean, there's the help?" ]

Any of them seem a bit off to you? [Good a place as any to start.] Or anyone new?

[ she shakes her head. "They're totally on the up." a shade of frustration crosses her expression. "And the note made it pretty clear it's a stalker fanboy."

faith pipes up from where she was dragging behind. ] Can we see it?

[ "Well, yeah," the heiress replies, moving to a white door along the hallway, and yanking it open. "But wait out here. No offense, but I don't want a bunch of strangers in my bedroom." Annnd she disappears inside. ]

[Phineas begins to look around the hallway, before speaking in hushed tones with the knights, while she is off in her room.]
How do you suppose he got the note in the room?

[He points at the bottom of the door.]
Got in the house somehow, and slipped it under the door?

Could be. Might work here or have a friend who does. Or maybe someone really did sneak in.

Didn't Wynn say she thought they had magic or something? That would make it pretty easy, if the house weren't warded against that kind of break-in.

Well... if that's the case, then no amount of theorizing is going to get us anywhere... [He looks frustrated at the notion.] But, at the very least, we know to be on the lookout for sorcery... if it was indeed magic.

I wonder why she thinks its magic?

[Phineas looks at Lissa.]

Or, if it's not magic, maybe it has something to do with that underground contraption you'd mentioned on the plane? With the secret passageways and such...

[Phineas may or may not be unclear as to what exactly a Railroad is.]

Unfortunately I don't think this house is that old, but I wouldn't doubt there could be passageways. [Rich people, yo.] Or at least hidden doors and staircases for the household staff.

That sort of access might grant the appearance of magic.

[ and out comes the heiress with a little slip of paper, shutting the door behind her.

"Ok, so here..." she holds it out for one of them to take, with an eyeroll. "That was the latest one. Soo psycho."

the note is handwritten, in a masculine cursive, and reads:

"There's an agony that can't be put into words, a longing made more profound by the face of eternity, and not having you at my side has made me intimately familiar with both these evils. Your beauty haunts, your words leave a pounding trail in my mind that I follow in vain to another hollow day in which I can't make you mine.

What did I do to bring us here? I can't do this forever.

[Thoster takes the note because he's nosy and she's offering. Looking it over, he passes it on for the others to see as well.]

And there was nothing else? No request on where or when to meet? [He rubs his chin.] Can't very well speak to him if he hasn't told you to where to go to do it.

she knots her arms, hip cocked as she manages half a shrug.

"Nothing. Why do you think I've got you guys here? He's going to come to me, and this is his best opportunity." ]

Suppose it is. [Thoster claps his hands together and looks to his colleagues.] I think we've wasted enough of this lovely girl's time. Solace! Perhaps you could accompany the lass as she readies for the party? Keep an eye on things?

[Makes sense to him to keep the girl with the cleric, at least. He's open to suggestions, but Thoster really wants to take a better look around the house, and something tells him that this girl won't like all his snooping.]

Good idea.
I could use some time to... mentally prepare, for the evening's festivities.

[Phineas gets a few shades greener...]
And, also perhaps some more time to rest and recover from that horrid flight.

[At least he's not puking as much this time... He'll get used to it someday.]

Very well. [ solace gestures for the girl to go ahead, patiently ] We'll all reconvene, then, in the ballroom soon?

Quick as a flash, friend. Don't get started without us! [Thoster cracks a smile because... Solace is kind of a giant stick in all of the mud.]

I'll... be right along. [Phineas gives a bit of a strained smile, then stalks off in search of some privacy...]

[Once Solace leaves and Phineas goes to... do whatever it is he does... Thoster turns to the girls and grins.]
