[ the pendergast manor is a sprawling sight, impressive even to those who live in the world's most ridiculously sized castle. the whole place has a sort of country club air, and white gloved butlers escort the little troupe of knights through the halls, past expensive paintings and all the other old money trappings. ]

[ it's a few hours before the party that they're ushered in to meet the celebrity in question: and when a servant pushes open both doors into the music room, she's sitting on the edge of a table with an earbud hanging out, legs crossed, entirely ignoring everything a very frazzled looking tutor is attempting to tell her about the viola. she doesn't seem to notice their entrance either as she complains:



"You know I have important pre-party set up to be doing, right?" ]

[Ugh. Would you look at this room? Thoster does not even notice the whiny brat because he is just so pleased at the acoustics in this place. And the instruments. He's in heaven, basically. He turns to Faith and Phineas and drops his voice.]

My heart is breaking that we couldn't convince the rest to go along with the band idea. This would have been perfect. [Ahem]

We'll be quick, I promise. [Lissa doesn't look super duper impressed, but then she grew up very rich. And a princess. So this is sort of completely normal and familiar to her. Peasants to the left, she strides forward to the table.] Think of it like being rescued from... [She glances at the viola before back to the girl with a smirk. (Diplomacy 25)] That.

[Phineas looks depressingly at what could-have-been, then at the woman he's got to act like he's with for the evening. It's funny, because given the proper setting, he'd probably throw himself at her - but he's really not enthused about just playing at like he's with somebody... luckily he's great at lying, so he'll deal with it.]

I've got to admit, the band idea would have been a lot of fun...

[His gaze drifts to the 'celebrity'] ...Let's just hope the bar is well stocked, eh?

[Wow, Sydney is so not impressed with the boys right now, and she's not hiding the irritation in her face.]

[ as the guests arrive, everyone wanders into the ballroom where an impressive and delicious spread is... although not really anything special to them since they see better at squiring parties all the time, woops.

the party isn't particularly huge, and there's an interesting mix of guests. feel free to make threads below about who your character(s) will approach and/or what their party strategy is.

guests:
a pair of wealthy looking ladies complete with fur stoles (here and here) who travel around the room together, gossiping about everyone else
an ancient looking dowager, who looks scandalized by what callista's wearing
her husband, who is legitimately wearing a monocle
callista's angry drunken uncle and entirely put out aunt who is done with his shit
a young, stupidly attractive guy in a leather jacket who may or may not be a pop star
his unshaved asshole entourage of dudebros

and various and sundry less interesting looking types. ]

[ stupidly attractive, you say? consider lissa there. she knows her talents, and besides healing -- cute guys are her talent. that and she has a weird aversion to older men for some reason she can't name that makes her feel like choking (sorry solace), so she is steering clear of the old lady and her husband and the drunk guy. and frankly, she feels like if someone is stalking the socialite, people her own age would be a decent choice. and a decent cover would be a popular hottie. cute guy and his posse it is.

adjusting her dress, she plucks an hor d'oeuvre off the table and fiddles it between her fingers, delicately moving closer to said attractive guy. ] Excuse me, could you pass me a napkin?

[ he turns to regard her coolly, as if he can't believe she's asking him to hand her something but he seems less bothered when she's an attractive young woman. ]

Yeah, sure. [ he reaches over and snatches one between two fingers. ] Haven't seen you around before.

I haven't been here before. [ she smiles, turning on the charm. (charisma 25, hey there) ] I live in England, I don't often get to visit Callista.

[ well, as he gets a closer look at her, he looks suitably dumbstruck, grinning back. ] England, huh?

[Thoster may have lied when he said that he'd be at Faith's side for the entire evening. The gossiping women in fancy fur catch his eye. He feigns a kiss to Faith's cheek to let her know where he'll be and crosses the room towards the women.]

Ladies... might I say that you look exquisite this evening. [Charisma check, natural 20. I cannot make this shit up. The smile he turns on must light up like a fucking Christmas tree.] I noticed you from across the way and just had to come over and say so.

[ the ladies exchange glances and giggles, very ostensibly eyeing thoster up. ]

Well, aren't you a sweet talker.

Just an admirer of true beauty. Allow me to introduce myself... Victor Vondrazledorf [Seriously, Faith. What the fuck are you smoking?? Oh also I guess he needs a bluff check since that is... not his name... Bluff 28.] at your service.

[Sydney is going to go hang out with Monocle guy, because he looks wise and intelligent.]

[ not only wise and intelligent, but remarkably stuffy as well! he lets out a hrmph noise, and adjusts the monocle, looking down his nose at her. ]

[After his wager is struck with Claudia and Erika, Thoster takes himself back out into the crowd. He sort of just lingers around before he turns to see the angry uncle. He doesn't know how much information he might be able to get out of him or his exasperated wife, but it's at least worth a shot to avoid them from making a scene.

He's charitable that way.]

Lovely party, isn't it? [He says in his usual friendly tone.]

[ angry uncle takes a sizable gulp of wine, and start pouring himself more. ]

Well, I happen to be enjoying myself. Sorry to hear if you're not- both of you. [He nods to the uncle and gives a tiny trace of a smile to the aunt, almost apologetic that she's dealing with this brute.]

IN THE HALL! DRAMATIC SCREAM THREAD!

[ solace is by the door out of the ballroom when anyone comes to investigate the scream. it seems that most of the people attending the function either didn't hear, or assume there are teenagers fucking around down there, throwing each other in the pool or something... no one really seems all that concerned, and as it was just the one sound and then stopped, they continue to go about their business.

solace looks to whoever heads over to check it out first. ] Does anyone know who went down that way?

[Thoster comes, bringing Faith along, glancing around for the others as they gather.]

Didn't see anyone from inside leave. Most of them don't seem bothered.
