No, in Italy, actually. [ she gives gar a knowing look ] Naples, to be specific. I know, what a wonderful introduction to the world, especially for one so obviously Shadowkind as I am.

I imagine it wasn't much better then than it is now.

It was worse, actually. A dangerous place for any Shadowkind to be, and I was almost murdered the second day after my arrival.

Was it the Knights who intervened?

A knight, yes. He single-handedly saved my life, and did his very best to convince his mission group to bring me back with them to England. [ don't mind this girlish smile she's incapable of hiding ]

[rationalizes]

How dashing. [ ahahahah you say that now, gar. ]

It certainly was. [ she's still smiling fondly, and she reaches out to tap the cover of gar's book ] Almost a tale you'd see in one of these.

Although, I wouldn't think it wise to ever describe it as such to him. Besides, that's unfortunately where the romance seems to come to an end.

Sadly, that's the way of it in the real world.

Is he still a Knight or is he long since gone?

Oh, he's still around. Sir Christos La Krail, I'm sure you've at least heard of him. My Knight in shining armor. [ this conversation started out talking about hokey romance novels, so she feels pretty confident she needn't worry about being overly cheesy ]

[rationalizes]

Christos... La Krail? [ she sounds surprised, but she does a nat 20 wonderful job of reining in any complete incredulity that might otherwise manifest on her face. ]

[ he's a hero, too, gar x( but she rolled a shitty sense motive, so she assumes that means she's pleasantly surprised ] Yes, the one and only. [ god francesca, stop smiling so much ] I owe him quite a bit, actually, even beyond saving my life during our first encounter.

We're quite close, he and I. [ oh wait ] Friends... we're close friends. [ :( ]

I... wasn't aware he had many... friends. [ wow she didn't mean it to sound that bad. ] Er, close ones, that is. [ not better ]

It's true he's quite... selective about who he allows in his inner circle. [ diplomatic response ftw ] I'm very proud to be counted among the few.

I rather think he should count himself among the fortunate, as well.

[ d'awww flattery will get you everywhere ] I'm loyal to a fault, I fear, but I do appreciate the compliment.

Well, I don't really think of loyalty as a fault.

[ when it borders on obsession, it just might be... ] It's certainly done well to get me this far. [ with only that one little hiccup along the way ] We all must find something worth fighting for, or to fight for, I suppose.
