[Her breath hitches a bit. She can't even answer, but instead just looks at him and swallows as those words immediately cause her to think about it, all of it.

She trusts Wynn, of course, but it's not the same as talking about it with Finnick or anyone else in her little group. There's something too much like disappointment lingering in her eyes. She's upset with herself for being taken and dwelling on what happened only makes her stew in that.]

[ gently: ] I understand it's difficult. But learning what they're capable of may help you and I to keep others from meeting the same fate.

[witchwoman]

[She nods, eyes closing before she finally starts to speak.] In the airport, they put a bracelet on me. I couldn't move, could barely speak. They left it on when they brought me in front of him-- Sarandis. [She pauses again, a slight shudder running through her.] I've never met a man more evil.

They took some of my blood after I'd healed another of the prisoners. Eebo. He was so scared to let me touch him, so worried that they would kill him for it. He didn't realize just how much worse it would be... [Tears start to form, but she forces the words out.] They hurt him just to find out what it would do to me. [They hurt her too, yes, but the worst of it was the way they made her watch and feel the pain they put Eebo through.]

I don't know how much they learned. If they found a way to use it against other Shadowkind... I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.

You've no cause to apology for the evil that men like him may do. No more than Eebo need apologize for what was done to him.

Their prisoners - they were all Shadowkind?

[witchwoman]

Those that I could see, yes. He was experimenting on them all in different ways, terrible ways.

[Her voice catches on the start of a sob.]

[wynn]

[ sympathy is apparent in his eyes, and he speaks more softly, having a seat. ] I've speculated before that he was the one behind the experiments your team discovered in America, the laboratories you destroyed. [ he shakes his head ] It does not surprise me to learn that he kept the worst of it closest to his chest. Myri... do you know what he hoped to accomplish, to learn from this work?

[witchwoman]

I don't know anything for sure, only what I could guess from how...elated he was at our presence. I think he wanted to find a way to replicate my empathy. I can only imagine he wants to force Shadowkind to feel connected pain to control them, to bend them to his will by that connection. Spike's chip seems more obvious. If he can produce them and implant them, then he could leave any of us defenseless against his people, unable to lift a finger to keep them from doing whatever they wished.

[wynn]

[ wynn nods grimly ] Both of which slot perfectly into the plans of the Church to which he belongs - forced enslavement of non-human races. It's very similar research to what we uncovered early on in your mission, so I think your speculations are correct. You were given no indication, however, of how far this research had already gone? What they were capable of?

[witchwoman]

More of what we've already seen- experiments to turn Shadowkind into weapons, presumably to control them to fight for them. I didn't see much else. I'm... I'm sorry, sir.

[wynn]

You're certainly in no position to apologize. I'm afraid it is I who owe you as much.

[witchwoman]

What? You had no way of knowing-- Why would you apologize? I made the choice to leave the mission. If I hadn't, they wouldn't have found the opportunity.

[wynn]

Regardless, you are my Knights, under my charge. For this deceit to go unnoticed for so long, within my own walls, is unacceptable.

[witchwoman]

With all due respect, sir- I've been away for a very long time. If the doppelganger had acted out of character, you could hardly be expected to know. [She swallows because wow disagreeing with Wynn is weird.] I appreciate that you regret what has happened to me, but assigning yourself blame won't undo it.

[wynn]

It isn't a question of shouldering blame, Myrilandel. I think there has been more than enough of that going around in the wake of these revelations.

There is little point in arguing or fretting over what should or should not have been done. All we can do is press forward, and in so doing, hope to avoid repeating our mistakes.

[witchwoman]

We'll bring Thomas home, sir. [She still feels terrible that he was captured trying to save her.]

[wynn]

[ he nods once, firmly ] I have no doubt. But Thomas would want us to remain focused on stopping Sarandis, first and foremost. And that will be a complicated, messy business.

[witchwoman]

What do you know of those remaining from the previous rulers? The woman who helped us escape from the island was one of them. Her name was Lara... Tamon, I believe she said.

[wynn]

Those remaining on the island are lesser nobles - not of the ruling line. The Andres family was the last, and they'd hoped to produce an heir through their young son. A plan which was, most unfortunately, cut short by his early demise.

[witchwoman]

Lesser or not- I think they would help us, if we could find a way to reach them. They want the same thing we do, to see Sarandis cut down.

[wynn]

We'll need their support, either way. If we do move against Sarandis, we have to be prepared to help Andres establish a new government, and without the will of the people behind us, we'll be doing them more harm than good.

[witchwoman]

When we found her in the woods, she was digging up a box. She said she was able to communicate with the others she knew she could trust in that way. They have the means to organize themselves. [Myri worries at her bottom lip.] Perhaps if we could bring her back here- or at least somewhere safe in London. She would know more about the island than any of us could hope to. She's lived there her entire life, I imagine.

[wynn]

Did it sound as if she wished to leave?

[witchwoman]

No, but it wouldn't have to be permanent, would it? She has means of travel and could come up with an excuse to leave, I think.

[wynn]

Something like that would be her decision to make. But yes. We could help arrange it.

[witchwoman]

[She nods, seeming to feel better hearing that.]

Is there anything else I can tell you? Anything you think might help? [She wants to help, but her mind is still a jumble of the last two months.]
