[There's an instinct that's been trained in her to flinch at first when he touches her, but she forces herself to relax and ends up leaning against him, head tipped against his shoulder just slightly.] What could I possibly teach you?

C'mon, Myri- even now, with all that's happened, you're still the most loving and kind person I know.

And that's precisely why they knew I was an easy target. [She doesn't see her compassion as much of a virtue any longer.]

Love's not a weakness, Little Bit. Some of the strongest people I know are the ones who love with everything they've got. [He squeezes her a little tighter.] They tried to make us weak taking us apart- sometimes literally- but now we're stronger than we ever were. They weren't expecting that.

I don't feel strong. [Being a team player is easy for Myri. Believing in her friends is second nature. But she doesn't see herself as strong.] I wanted to die, Des. There were nights when all I could hope was that maybe they would end it.

You had it bad- no one would have wanted to keep going after that. But you're here. You made it out. [He grimaces.] You shouldn't have had to suffer that. I wish the world didn't work that way. That people don't have to bend until they break just to see if they'll come out the other side a better person for it. That's why I sent you away, Myri. I thought you'd see less of that if you were back here... And then you got it worse than anyone.

[He glances down.] It's gonna end one day. It won't take away the pain, but it might ease your mind a bit.

[witchwoman]

It worked in a way- sending me away. [She says, a little bitter. It's not directed at him. Just in general.] All of this started because I couldn't stop myself from feeling that pain, the way you all were hurting. I don't think we'll need to worry about that any more.

[He draws back a little, realizing what she means (wis 21)] You can control it?

[witchwoman]

Some. [She nods a little, looking down] I don't know when it happened, really. But it was either that or give in and fall into the Void to my next life. I came close a few times. And there were times that I wanted it. But I suppose this world isn't quite done with me. And I learned to put up a wall.

[nothingsodivine]

No, it wasn't done with you. [He says, almost too quickly.] You don't get to go like that, Myri. You're too good to leave this world in despair and anger, and if that happened... [he flinches and then changes the subject] I'm glad you got it under control.

[witchwoman]

[She reaches over and takes his hand in hers.]

I'm glad I did too.

[The nightmares were terrible but the desire to end it all was long gone by now.]
