No, it's not you. I-- [ she licks her lips, twisting her now free fingers together in front of her and trying to coax herself into calm. she can do it. she stood up to jack crawford. she stood up to freddie. she lived through... everything. she can deal with one woman named alanna. ] I'm fine. I just miss her. [ she figures the "her" is obvious. ]

I understand.

[ she's not the type to dwell and mope—feeling sorry for herself is the surest way to get alanna up and moving and distracted so she doesn't deal with it. but she knows it'd be a sting to meet any other prince jon. ]

Would it help to talk about her?

[ her mouth twists in an uneasy, weak smile. ] She was my psychologist. [ so it's kind of hilarious, in a bittersweet way, that alanna is asking a question alana had asked her before. ] She sort of looked after me.

It's lucky you remember her—it sounds as though she meant a great deal to you.

Sometimes I wish I could forget. [ her fingers untwist and she reaches up to tuck her hair behind her ear like a nervous habit, nearly blunt nails scraping against the shell of skin, a silent reminder. ] I wish I could forget a lot.

Sometimes the Veil is kind, in that way—sometimes it isn't. You're in good company to find kindred spirits, at the very least. We've all got things we wish were taken instead.

[ the ordeal of knighthood, for instance, is one memory alanna could do without. ]

My whole life? [ she breathes out a quiet, bitter, laugh. it's a jaded outlook for a teenager, but there isn't much abigail actually wants to remember. will. talking at port haven. the plane ride home. she wouldn't mind forgetting everything else. all of it. a clean slate. but instead she's stuck with every horrible moment possible. ]

I know sometimes it may feel like a curse, carrying bad memories with you, but those are the moments we learn the most from. If you'd forgotten them, you'd only be doomed to repeat those lessons.

I'm not sure that really applies. [ idk her dad can't die twice. hannibal isn't here to trust again. basically she is cannibal free. she sticks to people who eat bagels. she doesn't mean to dismiss alanna's point, she just doesn't think that it's specific to her life. ]

I don't mean the things that have happened to you, Abigail. But each of them has had a role to play in building the person that you are, whether you'd like it or not. I don't know about you, but I rather like that person—at least, what I know of her.

[ abigail does not like herself. how could she? she can says she's a survivor, but she's just as much a monster as hannibal and her father. ] Thanks.
