The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[ and so are you, hello. her head tilts as she considers him with a none-too-subtle once-over, expression curling into a smile. she remembers this dude from the ceremony while she'd been scoping everything out—he was situated up near the front with the other heads of the knighthood. which is helping the nat 20 appearance for her tbh lydia has a thing with the social ladder. ]

Sir Chessing, although I'm not averse to 'Jack' either. [ he extends a hand ] May I ask who you've been squired to?

[ she takes the hand decisively and shakes it. ]

Jack, then. Helen is mentoring me. She's the one who brought me here.

[dragonsclaw]

Well, you're certainly very fortunate. Sir Magnus is an exceptional woman.

Sir Magnus isn't the only exceptional one. [ ayyyyyy. she looks him over, eyelashes fluttering, and smiles. ] What sect are you with, Jack? I've got some shopping around to do, I've been thinking maybe I should try them all on.

[ the canny look in his eyes says he gets what you're playing at, gurl. which only serves to make his smile more cautious as he says: ] I used to be in the Dragon's Hide, although it was a difficult decision between that and the Hoard when my squiring came to an end. But a Dragon's Claw is of no sect, so I'm afraid I've forsaken such ties.

The Dragon's Hide is the muscle of the organization, right? [ unrelenting, ] Are those skills that you've kept sharp since you've moved on up?

I'm afraid I'd have to, or I might find myself in trouble in the field. Dragon's Claws work alone, more often than not. [ oh he just

Sounds dangerous. [ she doesn't seem to notice a+ concealing. ] I can't imagine how exhilarating it is, knowing it's all riding on you. [ she takes a step in closer. ] Doesn't it get lonely?

[ he takes a polite side-step to grab a drink off a tray and get her out of his grill, turning to hand it to her. ] I would consider that the least of my concerns. My work is incredibly fulfilling.

Incredibly.

[ she hums her assessment, tilting her head a bit as she takes the glass from him. ]

I don't think that's the same as completely. You must have other interests.

You'll find that I've managed to tailor most of my interests into my work as well. I enjoy doing a great deal of independent scientific research, fencing, reading as widely as I can... There's little reason our hobbies can't serve simultaneously to better us as Knights.

Except for the implicit requirement of a hobby being a break from work. [ squint. oh. married to his job. sigh. ]

It's a break from risking my life, at least. I consider that close enough.

[ well she could give him a real answer that involves a long list of things, everywhere from art to math to werewolves, or she could keep it to one thing and continue trying to climb him like a koala with a eucalyptus tree. ]

Dance. Classical, actually. [ she holds a hand out. ] Do you know how?

[chessing]

[ if only he weren't so polite. he recognizes that he's been trapped here, aight. ] Passably, I hope. [ he offers her his elbow to lead her out to the floor. ]

[ her hand loops around his arm and she moves out onto the floor with him, settling one hand onto his shoulder and moving to hold his other. she glides across the floor with practiced grace, and it becomes abruptly clear that she completely plans on leading, regardless of his talent. welcome to lydia martin. [ well, that's gonna be awkwardly because he's classically trained and old-fashioned (dance 20), and gonna try to lead anyway. ] Well, I won't leave you in suspense, then.

[ wow she's a lady ok once she realizes he knows how to lead, she lets him take over. ]

I'd call this more than passably. When did you learn?

My mother insisted I take lessons from when I was a young boy.

How long ago was that?

[ not that she cares ok she's just curious. ]
