The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[ the excessively dignified sir chessing tries to make it a habit to greet all the new squires when he can attend one of these, so he'll make his way over to faith eventually. the man really knows how to rock a fancy tuxedo (nat 20 disguise check), and looks about in his mid to late thirties, sporting a very british accent. ]

[He's definitely excessive in something. Faith cants her head, as he addresses her.]

You can call me Faith. Unless you have an issue with the whole informal thing.

Whichever you'd prefer, naturally. I only wished to welcome you to the Knighthood.

Jack Chessing, Dragon's Claw. [ and he'll offer a hand ]

[And she'll look at that hand before it kicks in. She'll wipe her own fingers on her pants before shaking his hand. Yeah, if he thought he was going to do any sort of m'lady kissing that got halted pretty quick.]

Dragon's claw? What's that part for? I mean, I've heard of Esquire and the second and third, but that's new. Can I just add an animal onto my name? Faith Lehane, Jaguar's Teeth. [She shrugs.] Maybe not.

[ he looks highly amused ok ] The Knights operates in various sects, meant to emphasize the skill sets of our members. Each section has a corresponding name.

[At that revelation her eyes drop to his hand. She isn't sure if he's the dragon or the claws, but she doesn't seem overly concerned that he's either.]

Huh. [Her eyes lift back to his, trying to be polite and all she makes that ever so desired eye contact.] So, it's your own little ... secret club inside of another sort of secret club.

You might put it that way. We've a sect for those who are more combat-oriented... one for those who prefer to focus on magic studies, another for those who are more book-learned. Just to name a few.

[Faith smirks.]

Little groups like that, huh? [She's not gonna make a comment about how she never understood that in high school, because she's pretty sure that sort of thing happens everywhere. It happened in prison, why not knight... club.]

What part is the dragon or is it the claw? Are you guys the book-learned ones? [Look, he's just really throwing out those Giles and or Wesley vibes.]

The Dragon's Hoard are the researchers. The Dragon's Claws are... less a sect, and more a special position. [ he glances down, frowning for a second ] There are only two of us at a time, selected by Wynn from the ranks to take on certain missions at a higher level of confidentiality.

Doesn't it sort of... [skepticallll....] defeat the whole confidentiality part when you tell people that you're part of that club? [Because, maybe Wynn needs to pick out someone with a better understanding of confidential. Even Faith knows that word.]

The missions themselves are confidential. Not the position.

[Now, not that Faith is huge into keeping the fact that she was the Slayer back home a secret. Hell, most of the bad guys sort of rolled into town looking for her, but that meant that if they killed her off - then it'd be a free for all. She's thinking that logic applies here.]

So right now you're on vacation.

[She's thinking it, but not going to say it.]

Between missions. Hardly a vacation. [ he grimaces ] We're in a somewhat difficult time at the moment. Wynn requires me to be ready to dispatch at a moment's notice.

[There's a big party with free food, Faith would consider this a vacation. But she can also relate to the being ready at a moment's notice part. Not that she was ever really the go-to girl for things, but there had been a short time there when she had been. Hell, even the latest gig in LA had her doing a few things all at once.]

You and the other person... or is it one of those things where they only need one of you and the other is the back-up?

Usually we're the only Knights assigned to work alone in the field - Wynn's right and left hand, so to speak. However...

Sir Bancroft is currently being held captive on Andres Isle, by a very powerful, very dangerous enemy of ours. We are awaiting orders as to how to proceed in securing his release without more bloodshed.

Was he on some mission and things went wrong or was this more of a preventative thing on that enemies end?

We were on Andres, for another mission, when we overheard rumors of two of our Knights being held in a secret facility there. Despite not having heard of their being missing, we broke in to see - and learned that Sir Spike and Sir de Tanos had been captured, replaced by a doppelganger who returned here in their stead, and held under brutal conditions, tortured and experimented on.

Thomas and I helped them to escape, but were captured ourselves in the process. The wretched man who leads them - Dimitris Sarandis - let me go to deliver his terms to Wynn, but kept Thomas on the island.

[She's with him right up until he says Sir Spike. Her eyebrow lifts slightly, because it's not like Spike is a common name. While he goes on to bring up the escape and Dimitri, she's thinking if there's a chance that Spike is here. The Spike she knows... well, the Spike she played a very wrong, very naughty trick on when she was wearing Buffy's body.]

Sorry - Sir Spike? Bleach blonde, big ego, British?

You know him?

[Well, that was an easy way to sum up Spike.]

Yeah. Well, not directly. I mean, I met him once, but I wasn't really myself. He won't remember me or anything. [That... sounds weird.]

He's got this reputation though. So, it's just weird that he's here. As a knight.

From what I've seen he's quite a successful one, at that. Do you mean that you've met him here, or are you from the same world as it were?

I didn't know he was here. He's from the same world, yeah. [She's just trying to get over the thought that a vampire, a vampire who was named "William the Bloody" could be considered a good knight. She's not even sure what the procedure is for bringing up that he's a vampire who took Angel's bag - the whole vampire with a soul thing was Angel's turf.]

You might be correct, then, in assuming he won't remember you, but perhaps not for the reasons you think. From what I recall, he remembers little or nothing of his life before this world.

How does that work? I mean, I'm pretty sure I remember everything. [Though, in fairness she might not and just not realize it.]

Did he just show up here and not know who he was?

They call it the Veil - the fog you may remember seeing before you found yourself here. It seems to work differently for everyone, for some taking everything, for others, very little. The specific phenomenon is known as the Gift of Lethe, because many consider it a gift not to recall a life they cannot return to.

Aspects of personality or morality appear not to lose much in the transition.
