In less than twenty-four hours, everything has turned on its head.

A Knight and her allies were kidnapped by Iscariot agents for execution in Rome, barely escaping with their lives.

A mission meant to free one Knight from the influence of a dark god succeeded - at the price of another's life.

A simple recon mission at a Keijen Blade concert nearly led to two Knights committing mind-controlled suicide in front of an eager crowd.

Several Knights went to see Draken Crombe, leader of the Church of the Lord's Humanity, speak in person, and learned just how sinister his religion's dogma is.

A call from Sir Hathaway alerted Wynn to the escape of the doppelganger from the Knight's dungeons, an escape perhaps aided by Elena Gilbert.

A demigod interrupted what might have been a simple smash and grab retrieval of an artifact.

And most horrific of all, in the middle of the night, hundreds of Shadowkind in New York City awoke, and walked in a mindless trance down to the Hudson River to drown themselves. Only the quick thinking and combined efforts of the Knights present and their allies prevented all of them from succeeding.

Beset on all sides, a dark time awaits for the Knighthood - who were already suffering from the capture of Dragon's Claw Sir Thomas Bancroft at the hands of their long time enemy Dimitris Sarandis of Andres Isle.

In times such as these, the light can be difficult to find. Hope itself seems somewhere just out of reach.

[ Kate has the sound turned off on her phone so the telltale Candy Crush noise doesn't carry across the plane. She keeps swiping as she looks up at Dean. ] Kate. Who're you? [ Maybe she alternates snarking. ]

So this whole... Knight thing your scene too?

[alsohawkeye]

[ She shrugs. Her nose wrinkles briefly at her phone and then she swipes the screen dark and turns it down against her knee, attention shifted to Dean. Hi. ]

I don't know yet. I've been invited to come meet the boss, so I guess we'll see how it goes. I take it it's not yours?

[likedillinger]

[ he snorts derisively at the very suggestion. ] Do I look like Heath Ledger to you? Not really my scene, no.

[alsohawkeye]

If you did we'd be having a totally different conversation. [ Kate flashes him a smile. ] But points for the reference. So what's your scene, then? Stowing away on jets?

[likedillinger]

Actually, you usually couldn't pay me enough to get on one of these death traps, no.

[alsohawkeye]

So they pay pretty well? Good to know. So what's your thing? Area of expertise, weird power, et cetera.

[likedillinger]

[ he manages not to flinch at the second thing on her list. good job, dean. ] I'm a hunter. That mean anything to you?

[alsohawkeye]

Unless you mean fox or pheasant, no. [ And it's clear she assumes he does not. ]

Talkin' more the things that got bump in the night.

[alsohawkeye]

That makes more sense. Are you usually out of New York? It seems like I should've run into you before now.

[likedillinger]

More of an open road man, myself. Though I tend to swing through Chicago now to pick up leads ever since my usual guy-- [ he stops right there, expression darkening momentarily ] Hunter bar there where you can usually keep an ear close to the ground.

[alsohawkeye]

[ Kate lets that moment slide by, noted and filed away but not commented on. You're welcome. She nods along instead. ] So we did stop in Chicago earlier. I thought maybe I was dreaming that.

[ She combs fingers over her hair again and then unfolds to her feet, easing upright with a stretch. She gestures towards where the minibar is hidden behind a curtain. ] I'm going to grab a drink. You want anything?

Surprise me.

[alsohawkeye]

[ A minute or two later, Dean will find a carton of orange juice being tossed his way, narrowly preceded by a, ] Think fast. [ There is no similar carton in her own hand, it's got the tell tale bottle tops of airline booze sticking out. ]

[likedillinger]

[ with a 29 reflex save, he catches it like he's fucking spider-man. and then looks at it with legitimate disappointment. ] Either we're out of booze or you're trying to tell me somethin'.

[alsohawkeye]

[ Kate watches his reaction (and that catch, a little impressed), and smiles. ] Or I'm just fucking with you. [ Hopefully his reflexes are as good the second time because here comes a baby bottle of bourbon, and then another. ]

[likedillinger]

[ well he rolled THE EXACT SAME FUCKING THING so apparently. this time he breaks into a grin tho ] Suppose I was askin' for that.

[alsohawkeye]

[ Maybe it should be less impressive the second time but now there are two, so. Nope, still not bad. She grins right back. ] Keep it up with hands like that and maybe I'll be. [ ...askin' for it? Does that even make sense? It just kind of comes out, because she's on fire with the will rolls tonight (7. But Charisma 17?) This is going to end poorly, isn't it. Good thing she's kept a couple bottles and a cup of ice for herself. ]

[ well then~

he flashes her a flirtatious look of his own (cha 16) as he pops open the bottle ] Lucky for me, I can't turn 'em off, then.

[alsohawkeye]

Just for you? [ What is happening. ]

[likedillinger]

[ oh he likes you ] No reason it can't be a two-way street.

[alsohawkeye]

[ Good, she's impressed literally the only person on this plane she isn't supposed to be impressing. ] Shame we're so far from street-level.

Who said street level was a requirement? [ he smirks in the direction of the little back room with a charisma check of 25 to lay down what he's getting at wink wink ]

[alsohawkeye]

[ Kate's answering smirk is definitely tempted (way too tempted, will save 17), but tipped the opposite direction towards the rest of the cabin. ] The plane full of people in mourning I'm meant to be impressing?
