In less than twenty-four hours, everything has turned on its head.

A Knight and her allies were kidnapped by Iscariot agents for execution in Rome, barely escaping with their lives.

A mission meant to free one Knight from the influence of a dark god succeeded - at the price of another's life.

A simple recon mission at a Keijen Blade concert nearly led to two Knights committing mind-controlled suicide in front of an eager crowd.

Several Knights went to see Draken Crombe, leader of the Church of the Lord's Humanity, speak in person, and learned just how sinister his religion's dogma is.

A call from Sir Hathaway alerted Wynn to the escape of the doppelganger from the Knight's dungeons, an escape perhaps aided by Elena Gilbert.

A demigod interrupted what might have been a simple smash and grab retrieval of an artifact.

And most horrific of all, in the middle of the night, hundreds of Shadowkind in New York City awoke, and walked in a mindless trance down to the Hudson River to drown themselves. Only the quick thinking and combined efforts of the Knights present and their allies prevented all of them from succeeding.

Beset on all sides, a dark time awaits for the Knighthood - who were already suffering from the capture of Dragon's Claw Sir Thomas Bancroft at the hands of their long time enemy Dimitris Sarandis of Andres Isle.

In times such as these, the light can be difficult to find. Hope itself seems somewhere just out of reach.

I know. We learned first aid in the Legion. It was just as important to know how to save a life as it was to know how to take one. The medics were the most important people in the field. [ that's why she looks at myri with such respect -- she's the equivalent of a field medic. it's also one of the thousand reasons she didn't want to join the dragon' slight because that responsibility terrifies her. ]

I don't know very much. We just — everyone learned that at home, because drowning was a common hazard.

But you're a fish, I'm not entirely sure you weren't born in the water, Mr. Odair.

I'm fairly sure I learned to swim before I learned to walk, so. Maybe.

[ she smiles slightly. ] Fish. [ she 100% sure he is a fish. nothing can tell her otherwise. ]

Be careful, keep telling me that I'm a fish and maybe one day I'll swim away into the ocean and never come back.

I'll catch you. Kelp is a plant. I'll make a little trap that you'll swim in to, no escaping me.

Huh, I guess it is. Looks like I won't have to leave you after all. [HE WAS NEVER GOING TO LEAVE GET OUT.]

Good. Because I'm going to be clingy and gross for a couple days and then not want to be near people at all for like... ever, probably including you, so don't take it personally and/or get annoyed when I climb into bed with you and Myri and the pug pillows and cockblock you with my tears.

I'll try not to. [he puts a hand on her shoulder in an attempt to be reassuring.] You can do whatever you want, you deserve that much.

Okay. [ she doesn't quite believe him. if only because she feels such a massive amount of guilt she doesn't think she deserves anything. ]

[he'll just hang around and be quietly comforting for awhile now. until one of them decides they want to say something else.]

[ zzzz much sleep, many exhausted. eventually she wakes up with a jump, curling her fingers around the arm rests. yay nightmares. at least this time it wasn't god fueled. ] I hate sleeping.

[he pulls her close for a hug. shhh lil boo, it's ok.] I do too, sometimes. Other times it's all I want to do.

[ she sniffles, trying not to cry all over him. again. for like the thirtieth time. ] I don't even remember what decent sleep feels like. I used to love it. I could sleep for days.

Someday, you'll get to sleep again. Sleep and have good dreams. [however far away someday is ... it's probably not gonna be any time soon, even after their hakuna matata extermination, he knows that much.]

Maybe I'll just ask the clerics if they can put me in a medicated coma for like... five months. [ sound plan there, vi. ]
