[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of the first half of the month.    Because not everyone is into parties, ok.

arthur; wherever; multi-thread; ota.

[ returning to the castle feels oddly like returning home. not because he particularly thinks of this place as his home, but it's so much more like camelot than the bright modernity of the outside world, and walking down the long hallways or up long flights of stairs is soothing. ]

[ his first stop is wynn's round table room, of course, however afterwards he spends his time refamiliarizing himself with the place. particularly he can be found at the firing range, practicing, or in the training rooms — arthur still prefers swords to bullets, though he's not bad with either. ]

[ most importantly, he tries to catch up. it's been a long time since he was in england, and while he's had some communication with the knights, there's a tension in the air that he does not yet know what to make of — after all, he did not make his way back for no reason. ]

[ finally, after all his time abroad it's nice to just spend time in his room, reading or napping. it's quite a big room, lavishly appointed, and arthur can easily be found there should anyone require to speak with him. ]

[ Emma spends most of her time since returning in the firing range and training rooms. She spots Arthur working with the swords on her way in. While his identity doesn’t immediately make its way around (most are surprised with it at the briefing), the fact that he’s returned from abroad certainly does.

Well, he’s not the only one. Emma pulls out a practice sword, looking altogether amateur in how she holds it, and approaches. ]

Just got back?

[ The attempt at familiarity might be unwelcome, but here she is. Trying it anyway. ]

[ arthur looks at emma and her sword with something between amusement and concern. his own is lowered, though he was drilling agilely before she entered. ]

Indeed.

[ it's not what he expects her to say to him, honestly. ]

I've been out of the country since I was knighted.

That's not normal, is it?

[ Her brow furrows slightly, but she doesn't seem to get bogged down in trying to figure it out herself, instead asking. ]

What kept you away?

Exploring, mostly. I felt it would be best were I to have a greater understanding of this world. Beyond simply reading of it.

[ basically he took a gap year to travel asia and europe like a teenager.]

So you're the Renn Faire type. Or ... Faerun. Whatever it's called.

[ Looking faintly amused, she adjusts her grip on the sword, like she's suddenly self-aware of how she's holding it. While he might have needed the 101 on this world, she still hadn't quite mastered the Fairytale 101. That puts him at the advantage. ]

[ wynn is in his chambers upon arthur's return, but responds quickly enough to knocking on his golden doors. the light pours out as he enters the room, and his expression warms upon seeing the long-absent king. ] Arthur. [ he goes so far as to firmly clap a hand against his shoulder, looking him over as if to see what changes exposure to this world have wrought ]

[ yay, manly shoulderclaps are his favourite expression of affection. Arthur returns it in kind, visibly gladdened to be so welcomed after his time away. ]

[ there are physical changes, of course: sun-weathering, mostly, Arthur isn't as careful about his skin as he should be given his fair hair and pale complexion. but aside from increasing his probability of skin cancer, he seems a little more grounded than when he first arrived. the castle and the knighthood's privileges were too similar to back home to truly shake him out of his comfort zone. now, however, he has had to accept the world he has come to be in, or more accurately, the time. ]

[ the past is, as the saying goes, a foreign country, and like a foreigner he still has an intense loyalty to and nostalgia for the ways of his home. but he has also acclimated. educated himself on the missed years. and far more capable of standing on his own — after all, he has returned alone. ]
