As a machine with an entire facility under her control, yes. As a human, she's powerless. Far more powerless than Amara is, who, as you'll recall, came to us under similar circumstances.

I don't want to help her. I want to know what she knows. It's just more pragmatic to get her to cooperate with us rather than torturing her.

I, ah... That is to say, one of the effects of Luckman's machine seems to have had a debilitating and... likely permanent effect on me. [He stares sheepishly at his hands clutched around his cane.] Using magic causes me to feel... Well, guilty.

What do you mean guilty? [The concept is so hard for Faye to grasp.]

[It's pretty hard for Gold to grasp too. WHAT IS GUILT??? CAN YOU EAT IT??]

I just feel terrible. Like every spell is a burden... It was as if all those side effects of Luckman's machine- everything that happened to us in there- were serving as a reminder of how dangerous and unpredictable magic can be. And even now with everything back to normal... I still fear those consequences.

[Oh well Faye rolled as high as she can without getting a nat 20 on a sense motive so I guess she's picking up on that.]

Show me. [Do some magic right now, dad. Prove you can handle it. She's not sure if she's trying to prove a point or if she just wants to show herself she doesn't need to worried about him being crippled twice... in the leg and also by feelings.]

[Gold hesitates for a second and then waves his hand over his cane, casting "arcane mark" and inscribing the head of the cane with a rune. He cringes visibly, but he manages not to fall apart. (will save 16)]

So what does it feel like? What do you have to feel guilty for doing that??

It's part of the curse. It makes me feel as if I've committed some horrible sin. Not enough to shy away from doing it, but enough to give me the sense that it's wrong somehow.

[Basically it's making him feel like a self-aware addict. #canon]

Can't you get that removed? Like the smell and taste curse? [She wants this fixed like NOW. Gold with a conscious is the opposite of what she wants.]

I sincerely doubt it. [Also how do you even ask someone to remove PANGS OF CONSCIENCE.] I can only seek to curb it somehow.
