Why not? You've got the Delaware River, and you're not that far out from the ocean. [he lets a pause go by before he decides to clarify] I used to live in the DC-Baltimore area.

Because I'm from a family of upper middle class doctors and librarians who find the outdoors offensive to our pasty complexions and hate the way the sun reflects off our glasses.

[Not that Bambi wears glasses... anymore. His mention of DC makes her laugh, though.]

No shit? My mom's from DC. Apparently, the only thing that could drag her away from drooling on the lawn of the Library of Congress was a hot pediatrician from Pennsylvania.

I was from ... all over. Never really stayed in one place too long. My dad repaired boat motors. Just ended up settling outside DC.

[She gives him a look of grim sympathy.] Can't tell you if that's better or worse than the alternative. I'd have loved it if mine packed off and left for greener pastures.

[he shrugs; it's not like he could tell her either way.] I could never connect to the concept of family. Not until I created one for myself. [spoiler ... his family is just dogs and abigail.] The families we choose are what matters.

I think that's probably why I chose to come here... Well, that and cooking the books and forging documents for a Shadowkind crime syndicate was getting really aggravating.

[She shrugs, because yep. No big deal. Just talking about how she used to be a criminal to the ex-cop/ex-FBI agent.]

I was looking for an alternative to the shit I've dealt with in Philly right up until I hit the road.

Most people would call it "running away from my problems," but home hasn't really been home in awhile. And no matter what blood says, sometimes you're a square peg trying to fit into a round hole where you came from.

People say Wynn collects strays and gives them a home and while it sounds kinda like he's running a kennel, not an organization... It works for him. The only people crazy enough to do the sort of shit this place does are people a little left of center in one way or another.

I've noticed that, too. I can't say I'm that different. [he smiles slightly while turning to get rid of his now empty cup o noodles. eating was happening this whole time; surprise!!!!] Guess what they say about birds of a feather is true.

We're a bunch of cuckoos, if we're birds, but at least we're nuts together. [Yep. #wisdom. She hops off the counter.] It's nice though. Better than a musty old backroom in some warehouse working for shady crooks.
