[It's cool, she's just going to sit here cross-legged in the middle of the library and play with his dogs. She'll be quiet for the most part until the point where she just has to ask ... ]

Where do you find them? The dogs, I mean. Do you adopt them from a pound or something?

They're strays. Lemon was a lurker at the Shadowkind shelter that took me in, and took a clear liking to me. The other ones I found going back and forth into London. They were just playing on the road together. Any other dogs are just other people's around here following me in hopes of treats, I guess.

[She nods slowly at that, stroking a hand over Lemon's fur again.]

And you don't get in trouble for just taking them?

[mydesigns]

They're strays. No chips or collars or anything. Lemon kind of belonged to the shelter, but he showed clear favoritism towards me, so there wasn't any really arguing when I took him here with me.

[impetere]

[She nods a bit at that.]

It's a shame that they didn't have homes of their own.

[Then there's a pause.]

Do you think they fall through the Veil like we do?

[mydesigns]

Probably. As I understand it, all sorts of things come out of the veil. People, monsters, objects ... why not a dog?

[impetere]

[She frowns a bit at that.]

It's probably better for them. If they forget, they don't realize what they're forgetting.

[mydesigns]

Dogs don't perceive the passage of time the same way we do, anyway. [knowledge: nature???? earth/life science???? 21 either way.] They have instincts that tell them when certain events happen daily, like their owner coming home or being fed. Circadian oscillators. How the veil affects their memory would probably be an interesting topic of study.

[impetere]

[She considers hat for a moment, before shrugging.]

So you think it might just mess up they're rhythms more than actually mess with their memory?

[mydesigns]

It's certainly possible. I guess the only way to be for sure would be to ask one. Which, isn't impossible here, but would probably require going through a lot of dogs until you found the right one. Needle in a haystack.

[She hums a bit in agreement. She thinks back to when Gus was able to talk to her when he was in wolf form, back when she was brought into the Knights and wonders if the same thing would work for dogs.

Granted, she'd have to actually learn how to control it in order to use it, but it would be something to consider.]

I guess you'd need to be pretty dedicated to the cause.

[mydesigns]

Probably. And while I know a lot about dogs ... it's not because I'm a dog behavioral researcher or anything. I just like dogs.

That's not a bad thing.

[She smirks a bit, almost as though there's an inside joke somewhere that Will doesn't know.]

Most dogs want to be liked.

[mydesigns]

Sometimes I wish people were more like dogs.

[/truth bombs.]

[She smirks a bit at that.]

I think a lot of people wish that, even if they don't want to admit it. Dogs are a lot easier to deal with.

[mydesigns]

[he echoes alana's words, because he sure does remember ... that conversation he had with her 50 million years ago.] They keep a promise a person can't.

[impetere]

[She pauses as she looks up, her brow furrowing for a moment. There's more than a few promises that a person can't keep, no matter how hard they try.]

Which one?

[mydesigns]

They don't deceive. A dog is always going to be a dog. People are another matter entirely.

[impetere]

[She pauses for a moment, before giving a bit of a nod.]

It's a lot easier to understand them, too. Everything is always exactly as it is. People ... there are always ulterior motives. Even if they don't mean to deceive, sometimes they don't have a choice.

[mydesigns]

Doesn't really make it any easier for the person being deceived.

[impetere]

[She shakes her head.]

No, it doesn't. It still hurts the same way.

[mydesigns]

[and now things are getting too real, so ... ] Okay, I've been staring at these books too long. [he pointedly closes the book he was looking at.] I think I'm going to grab a bite to eat.

[impetere]

[She nods, before glancing down at Lemon, who is still pretty much in her lap.]

Do you mind if I ... ?

[Stay and play with the dogs like the five year-old she is?]

[mydesigns]

[he looks down and realizes that ... lemon is all comfy and doesn't seem to be going anywhere.] Oh, uh, sure. I'll be back in a few. And if not ... they know the way back. [getting up now. wheee.]

[She smiles a bit at that.]

Thanks.
