Arrival in the city involved picking up any weapons or equipment that they had sent to meet them here and moving into their oh-so-fancy hotel rooms on the top floor. It consists of four adjoining rooms with a shared living room space and kitchenette. Each bedroom has two separate beds and roomies are:

Buffy & Myri
Martha & Dumage
Spike & Sven

Mark's agreed to sleep on the couch, since there aren't any spaces with five separate adjoining rooms available.

Gar's new job will begin on Monday, which gives the Knights the weekend to explore the city if they like, do research on the Hoffman Institute, scope out the Institute's campus, set up surveillance plans, or otherwise unwind before the real work starts. Feel free to start threads for anything, and use subject lines to denote which day it occurs on! Also don't be afraid to jack multiple people into threads, as now is a great time for some TEAM BUILDING 8) ... Try not to kill each other, in other words.]

[ Day 1. Arrival in the big city of ... uh. Cityness. Very city-like, what with the tall buildings and the tons of people and the -- It had been a while. Well, not that long of a while, but she hadn't exactly been the coziest with it when Wynn found her all memory-free and she wasn't loving it now that she was staring down a mission that entailed who knows what.

So, at first, she tried to kind of sequester herself in the room with Myri. She'd sent a claymore to meet them in Chicago, and after they'd done their weapons check and picked them up, she'd brought the box up to the room to take it out and examine it. Clean it. Otherwise play with it. ]

[Myrilandel is still not used to the big modern cities, so staying within the confines of their living quarters is just simpler for her. The only weapons she'd sent along where some daggers that she's already hidden on her person for easy access.

She wanders back into their room after exploring the common area and finds Buffy fusses with her weapon.]

Careful with that. I heard a rumor you're quite good with it.

[slays]

Quite good, or impressively crappy. I haven't decided which it is yet. [ She gives a smile and lowers the sword back into its case. ] I noticed you didn't go pick anything up. Think you'll just be heal-gal while we're here?

[witchwoman]

[With a Slight of Hand check of 19, Myri moves her hands as if to adjust her clothing, but ends up coming back with a small knife in each hand.]

I don't intend to remain completely defenseless during our stay.

[slay]

[ Buffy's eyes widen a little, because it throws her off, but not in a huge way. ] Pointy.

[witchwoman]

[She smiles and shrugs before she slips the knives back where they belong.]

I try to stay out of conflict, but it cannot always be avoided.

Hope for the best but prepare for the worst. Not a bad policy to keep.

[witchwoman]

Precisely.

[Her smile flashes into a grin for a moment, but her expression soon becomes a little more serious.]

Do you think we'll actually be asked to fight while we're here?

[slays]

There's a chance. Gar said she thinks she'll just get information on their leads on our invincible charm-y key thing. We might have to fight their teams, or at least race them, to where it's actually at. Personally, I'm still hoping Hoffman will be using it as a paperweight.

[witchwoman]

If only it was that simple. Then all this could just be an excuse to fly and everyone can return to the castle safe and sound.

[But she's certain that it won't be that easy.]

Just promise me that you'll stay close if things go wrong.

[Whether that's because Myri could use Buffy's muscle or because she wants to be able to heal Buffy if need be (or both) is hard to say.]

Hey. [ Her brow furrows with concern about wanting to make sure Myri is reassured. She steps nearer to rest her hands on Myri's shoulders. ] I would never let anything happen to you. I promise. [ ... that got a little les yay, didn't it. Oh well. ]

[witchwoman]

[The thought of battle causes Myri to lose her yay factor. But it bounces back.]

Look at me, fretting like we've already been tossed in the midst of a war. [Amaranth jumps up on a nearby chair and yawns. Myri suddenly gets an idea and looks around before looking at Buffy with a small smile.]

Would you like to see him fly?

Can he do it in here? Is there enough room? [ She definitely looks excited at the prospect, though. ]

[Kat just... helps herself to entering your room, deal with it, I guess. And stands there in the doorway, staring at the weapon, looking amused] Not so much in the subtlety department, but definitely makes a statement.

[slays]

[ It's okay, Kat, Buffy ain't even mad. Or surprised. Everything she knows about Kat screams room-barger-inner. She looks up and smiles, giving kind of a sheepish shrug. ] I'm not really a gun person.

And, I'm pretty sure if they need us to go all guns blazing violence on anybody, it won't be screaming subtlety anyway. Thus, [ she holds up the claymore, then rests it back in the box, getting to her feet. This is awkward. But she wants to talk to her about something. But it's awkward. But of all the people on this trip, Kat is the one Buffy probably trusts the most to talk to about it. ]

Do you -- I mean, I was kinda thinking I'd go grab food later, if you wanna come.

I'm guessing you don't mean McDonald's. [She just has to tease you about not loving fast food like a good America] Oo! We could grab some Chicago style pizza.

[slays]

If I wanted McDonald's, couldn't you just magic some up? [ Yeah, she can snipe right back. But, the pizza suggestion gets a smile. ] But I'm definitely preferring the pizza idea. There's gotta be a diner or something near by that has some, right? [ She gets to her feet, grabbing her coat. Yep, this is happening. ]

Probably just a GPS search away. [She grabs her leather jacket off the back of her chair at the table and then looks at Buffy over her shoulder] What about everybody else?

[slays]

[ She glances around for a moment, considering. ] You mean the few who haven't already started exploring the city for themselves? [ She shrugs, looking back at Kat. ] Something tells me they'll be okay. Besides, I was kind of hoping -- I mean, I wanted us to be able to talk.

[shootfirst]

[Well, that seems to intrigue Kat, at least. She shoots Buffy a look of curiosity, then with one look back at Gar's door, she swipes her phone off the table and heads out the door] Deal. As long as it's not about shoes. [She pulls one arm of her coat on, already searching on her phone with her free hand]

[slays]

No shoes. Although, you know, we wouldn't really be making the most of this trip unless we went shopping for some, would we? [ She stuffs her phone into her front pocket, pulling her coat on. She pulls her hair out from it and then grabs the door, holding it open for Kat. She's a gentleman like that. ]

[Kat moves past her, pausing to give her a skeptical look. Please, please, let that be a joke, Buffy...] I was thinking ammo store. But let's stick with pizza first and see how it pans out from there.

[slays]

Right. Pizza first, and then maybe we could ... come to some sort of shopping agreement. Like, I'll suffer through Sportsman's Warehouse if you humor my Jimmy Choo craving. [ Out the door they go! Buffy grabs a card key from the counter as she heads out and lets the door slam shut behind them. ]

[Kat heads towards the elevator, racing to hit the button first in a totally subtle manner. She turns and leans heavily against the wall to face Buffy, as they wait for it] Isn't that a sandwich restaurant?

[slays]

... It's a fashioner designer. Shoes. Sunglasses. ... Handbags? [ She raises her eyebrows. Oh my god she is repossessing your vagina. ]
