[ The two groups tasked to deal with the denizens of the Shadow Village arrive on the bank of the river that bisects the capitol city of Andres in half.  The river slopes down from the woods and city around it, meaning that they're afforded a bit of concealment here, unless anyone stood at the top and looked down.  At this hour of the night, however, there's no one around.   Dovan grumbles a bit about 'blasted magic' as they shake off the disorienting sense of vertigo, while Koraith waits for Belle to confirm they've arrived in the right place.  She pats Gold on the arm as she pulls out her phone, and moments later, she nods to the others in confirmation.

The water laps gently nearby against the rocks, and in the distance, a bridge is visible that links the segregated Shadow village with its thatched roof houses, to the city proper, which seems lined with wealthy manor homes.  ]

[ the village is eerily quiet, almost inappropriately so, as if it were holding its breath. davin walks up on the bridge itself, looking over the edge and considering the ledge there, before jumping onto the narrow stone rail, and with a nat 20, jumping down and catching the side, holding himself in place down there with a 24 str, completely invisible. ]

[ironsides]

[ ok no but really, dovan pops his head up, just to hiss furiously: ] Wynn says they're comin' this way! Wait until they're on the bridge, lads and lasses, and then we strike! [ and then he'll... resubmerge himself ]

[instinct]

[ so it turns out cell reception underwater is actually really impressive. ]

[ derek takes a deep breath and centers himself, mentally preparing himself for — well, the first real fight since he arrived in this world. he doesn't know what to expect, anticipation thrumming through him. ]

[recycling]

[ they'll have no trouble hearing the approach. mostly because there are three heavily armored vehicles making their way slowly up the road from the city side towards the bridge. soldiers are perched on the back of them, toting large guns and grim aspects as they bump closer. ]

[righteousmight]

[ mmkay, well then penelope... will wait in hiding until they make the bridge like dovan said. not sure how close she is to the bridge at this point or how long it'll take her to get there once the fight starts, but she won't risk moving and being seen now. idk this is some quality rp right here. ]

[ironsides]

[ The trucks rumble onto the bridge slowly. It's long enough for all three of them to be on its span at the same time, and it's once they've reached this point that Dovan bursts from the water below - and yells: ] CHARGE!! [ annnnd roll for init! pplurk incoming ]

[recycling]

[ as the truck slows to a stop because of the fallen log, the green soldier is already ready for trouble, bringing his weapon around with a readied action to fire on anyone who appears. the first one to do so is davin, who leaps out with an 18 jump. the soldier fires on him (atk 22), but davin is too fast with his vampire speed, pouncing through the air and landing outside the door of the middle tank. with a 21 str check, he wrenches the fucking door off. hi.

green takes another shot at the vampire (atk 25), but it's still a miss. riddick jumps down out of his tree and makes for the back of the bridge. ]

[righteousmight]

[ penelope holds her position, keeping her cover behind the trees, and waits for some of the guards to hopefully disembark from the tank and take to the bridge before she charges forward. she does, however, cast shield of faith on herself (which grants a +2 deflection bonus to AC for five minutes) while she's biding her time. ]

[goonsquad]

[ orange leaps off the truck on the right hand side, and brings his weapon up in a sweeping arc, looking for trouble. yellow reaches over to grab his own gun, looking back to see riddick running up and scowling.

gray leaps off the back and fires ineffectively at riddick :( ]

[cuivre]

[Miles will come out of hiding and go running towards the closest in the open guard, which would be grey.]

[ purple jumps down as well, moving towards the fallen tree with raised weapon.

jaina leaps from behind the trees, moving to the edge of the bridge and laying down some cover towards grey for miles' sake (atk 19, dmg 6).

cerulean jumps down to fire at davin (atk 24), but the vampire easily avoids the bullet. black fires down at riddick (atk 26; dmg 5). blue scrambles for his weapon and turns it on davin in a panic (atk 13), the bullet flying wildly off in his unease. pink stays stationed on the top of the tank, waiting for anyone else to appear, and red throws the door open and climbs out. ]

[ derek was apparently listening to the village too hard to hear the call to attack. by the time he notices the trucks, everyone else has sprung into action. ]

[flyingsolo]

[ dovan is slow ok, so he's gonna take all this time to pop out the water and slowly start to trundle his way up towards the bridge. lavender jumps off and fires at jaina (atk 25, dmg 27), striking her right in the chest. blood blossoms across her chest and she looks down, gasping, cries out: ] Miles! [ and then slumps to the ground, unconscious. mint stays where he's perched and fires down at miles (atk 22, dmg 5) ]

[ davin reaches into the tank and grips blue, yanking him out of the truck with a successful grapple check (14 dmg). he succeeds in his melee touch attack and buries his fangs into the guards' throat (11 dmg). green is horrified and fires down at him but misses entirely. riddick moves over and attacks black (dmg 14) ]

[righteousmight]

[ Penelope's attention immediately snaps to Jaina as she goes down, but she's leery to leave herself so open by just running across the bridge. Instead, she holds her hand out toward Gray, her lips moving quickly as she casts a spell (Searing Light). An intensely bright ray of light springs forth from her palm, striking Gray squarely in the chest (att nat 20; dmg 30). The light arches between them for a second before she drops her hand, raising her shield in her left hand as she charges out behind the tank, twenty feet in Jaina's direction, and straight toward Gray. As she nears him, a strong, bright burst of holy energy explodes from her in a 50-foot-radius burst, giving minor healing to all within the vicinity (1 hp), and stabilizing Jaina (Stabilize; swift action). ]

[ orange takes a shot at miles (atk 22; dmg 10) while yellow aims out the window at riddick (atk 21; dmg 13). gray makes his fort save vs the searing light and fires at penelope as she approaches (atk 26; dmg 7) ]

Jaina!

[Yeah, Miles failed the fuck out of his will save (3) so he literally about-faces in the middle of the street and runs back where he came to crouch by her side. He'll spend his turn either just getting there or hopefully carrying/dragging her down and behind the edge of the bridge where he'd been hiding earlier (str 13).

He's looking pretty worse for the wear too, having taken two bullets already.]

[ he can start dragging her but not get super far. purple keeps a readied action up for anyone entering the bridge on her side, while jaina blinks her eyes open a bit, thanks to penelope's stabilization burst. she looks disoriented, looking around, eyes settling on miles' face, reading the concern there. ] What-- [ she can barely move but she'll try to help, getting to her feat and wincing, leaning on him heavily. cerulean aims at dovan (atk 25, dmg 3), while black tries to smack riddick with the butt of his gun, cracking him hard on the skull (nat 20, dmg 18). blue tries to break away from the nightmare that is GETTING EATEN BY A VAMPIRE but he crit failed his grapple check and winds up pinned to the side of the tank as davin latches on even harder, inflicting another 4 dmg to himself in the process, gj blue. pink goes to man the gun on top of the tank, getting it situated, while red also fires on the approaching dwarf, but misses (atk 11) ]

[ and derek.... finally notices the conflict? round of applause. ]

[ rather than walk around to the gap between the log and the end of the bridge, derek jumps (jump 16) the few feet up to the bridge itself, and pulls himself up (climb 18) over the side, still trying not to be noticed but kind of making a fair amount of noise with his gun and his chainmail (move silently 9, hide 10). ]

[ from there, he brings his gun up and fires on purple (atk 24, dmg 5). ]

[ derek's bullet strikes purple, who looks surprised at his sudden appearance but fires off her readied shot (atk 20; dmg 11 if it hits).

meanwhile, dovan charges at red, swinging his great-axe with a roar (atk 36, dmg 26). ow. lavender shoots after miles, striking him despite the partial cover, for 6 dmg. mint hops down and moves between the back two tanks, so that he can shoot out from behind cover at davin (atk 19, nope).]

[ davin keeps ripping at blue's throat for 12 damage, most of the color draining from the soldier's face as he nears unconsciousness. he also crushes him with his grip for 6 more dmg... which finally pushes blue over the brink. davin releases him, and he slumps to the ground, passed out, and bleeding out his neck. green keeps firing at the freaking vampire because he's probably next and not happy about it (atk 24... still nope). riddick attacks black again for 9 damage. ]

[righteousmight]

[ penelope has to attack gray on her way through, just... because she does, ok. she's hoping riddick is keeping black busy enough that he won't start shooting at her, too, but ouch, that looked like it hurt.

anyway, she runs forward, her sword slashing gray across his front, from shoulder to hip (atk 27, which is a critical, if it hits; dmg 22), blood spraying from the large gash that travels through his armor and into his flesh.

seriously, praise the everlight for that impressive sword-work. ]

[goonsquad]

[ orange moves closer to the tank again and fires at derek (atk 19, dmg 4 if it hits). yellow fires at davin and misses too, jfc. ]

[cuivre]

[Miles grunts and winces painfully as another bullet strikes him, but he manages to keep both himself and Jaina hobbling down and hopefully underneath the bridge for better cover (str 12).]

[flyingsolo]

[ purple pops off another one at derek too quickly to aim well (atk 11, which i'm sure misses). jaina stumbles down around the bridge with miles, leaning across a tree and pressing a hand against her injuries with a wince. ] Not lookin' too hot yourself there, Slick. [ cerulean glances back at the dwarf that is chopping his friend almost in half over there, and hesitates, wondering whether he or the vampire are the bigger threat here. he decides he has a better chance to hit dovan apparently and fires - landing a nat 20!! 14 dmg. black smacks at riddick again (atk 23; dmg 4), while blue finally stabilizes.

pink swings the tank cannon around at dovan and releases a deafening BOOM from it... missing and striking the edge of the bridge, knocking part of it out. red steps back from dovan, firing frantically (atk 18) but he's too close and it fires past him. ]
