[ Castle repairs are still well underway, so there's that ever present remaining air of tension in the wake of the attack, but nevertheless it's the holiday season and people want to celebrate.  Any and all holiday season things can go here! ]

des for the holidays ⌘ OTA

[Des shows up close to Christmas bearing gifts for the Failboat crew + babies, and because I am lazy, you can assume the Failboat crew all got amazing and thoughtful gifts, no expense spared. Unless it's like a luxury yacht or a beachhouse in Maui or the Hope Diamond. So some reasonable expense was spared.

For the most part, he spends his time with his failboat fambly or bumming around watching cheesy Christmas specials, while cleaning his weapons, because that's the normal and sane thing to do during the holidays. At least he seems to be in good spirits, which... really depending on who you are might not be that great. A Des who isn't even a little bit like an agitated cat is weird.]

[Hey Des guess who's here to interrupt your bumming around and weapons cleaning.

Out of the few people Wanda bought presents for, Des was one of them. So they've had a grand total of one conversation, but he'd been nice and she'd been able to enjoy their talk enough to actually make a stupid joke or two. When she did her small list of Christmas shopping, she'd gotten him a small gift -- well, actually, there are two different things in the box.

When she sees him around again, she has to go back to her room to get the wrapped gift, and bring it to where he's chilling out.]

Sorry to interrupt the weapons cleaning, but ... [and hands him the box with a small smile.] Merry Christmas.

[He looks up from working on the cylinder of his Le Mat when she shows up and offers him the gifts.] Hey... Wanda, right? [he frowns, laying the gun aside and takes the gifts from her, somewhat awkwardly.] For me? I've been told I'm a charmer, but I didn't think one conversation ever got me on anyone's Christmas list.

What can I say, I'm full of surprises. [another understatement of the year probably] Though it's not rigged to shoot confetti in your face or anything. [just btw]

Well, good to know. [He unwraps the gifts and smiles fondly at the glasses and dice, laughing to himself.] Well. I think I know the kinda parties we'll be having back in Manhattan now. I feel like a true New Yorker now.

[after living there for... a very long time.]

Awesome ones, I hope. [She smiles.] I thought anyone taking chances with drinks that work best with a top notch tolerance is probably someone not scared in the least to roll mixing dice and go with it.

Not even a bit. I've even got a friend who'd- [he bites his tongue and glances down.] Well, some day she'll get a kick outta them.

Someone back in New York?

Nah. She's from here, but she's off doing her own thing these days, so I don't get to see much of her. [he shrugs one shoulder, a bit helplessly.]

Sorry. [she gives a sympathetic look.] Not seeing much or any of people you care about kind of kills any cheer. [at any time of year, really.] It's been five years since I've last seen or talked to the only family member I have, so unfortunately I think I can relate.

[he smiles sympathetically.] It's kind of a common thing with me, actually, so I know how it goes. It's the sort of thing you never get used to.

[he cants his head.] Veil? Or were they just not keen on Knighthood?

[divaricate]

Getting used to something like that would be that much more depressing.

[She shakes her head.] Yeah, veil problems, I think. Or if he is here, he's being uncharacteristically quiet in the world. I think he'd fit in here - even though a big selling point for him on the Knighthood would probably just be knowing I'm here.

Honestly, I'm pretty sure "someone I know works here" is the selling point for at least one knight.
