[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of these few months. Because not everyone is into parties, ok. Characters who are not currently squired in may also post, as their characters are living in the castle awaiting their ceremonies.  This takes place after the Knights have returned from Dimitris' wedding.

[Kate spends most of her free time in the library when she's not training, reading both for work and pleasure. Today happens to float over to the pleasure end of the spectrum and she's curled up with an adventure book to try and relax a bit. She glances up when she sees Hawley walk by, and she looks up curiously.]

Are you looking for something?

[procurer]

[ The voice is unfamiliar and a little unexpected, but Nick's found most of the people here are usually pretty helpful than not, so he slows to a stop before the woman, cocking his head to the side curiously for a moment. ]

I don't suppose you know if we got a section around here on ancient Chinese history, do you?

[killmypatience]

[She pauses for a moment, tipping her head to the side before nodding.]

Yeah. I think it got moved over here.

[And she pauses before gesturing for him to follow her.]

[procurer]

[ His expression brightens a hint as he pushes into motion again, set to follow her, a crooked grin sliding across his lips. ]

Well, look at that. Maybe this wasn't such a wasted trip after all.

[ He glances over at her as they move, eyeing her curiously once more. ]

You don't look like the typical librarian type.

[killmypatience]

[She gives a small shrug.]

I've been doing a lot of reading to try and catch up. The Veil didn't really leave me with much.

[procurer]

[ He looks puzzled for a moment as he tries to figure out what she means by that. ]

Your memories?

[ He hazards a guess, because he'd heard that was sometimes a side effect. He wasn't sure if he was missing anything or not - if he was, he hadn't stumbled across it yet. ]

[She nods as she presses her lips together.]

I probably wouldn't have remembered my own name if I didn't have my license on me.

[procurer]

[ He gives a low whistle at that, his eyebrows arching upwards. ]

As if this place isn't weird enough when you first fall into it. That must have been confusing as shit.

[killmypatience]

[She nods because that isn't even the start of it.]

Yeah. Fortunately, however, I was pretty good at passing for normal, and I met some good people that kept me from getting in trouble.

[procurer]

[ His lips quirk as he exhales a huff of a laugh. ]

I think 'normal' is a very relative concept at this point. At least here. But good for you. I'm glad you got found and dragged here too. If only because you're saving me a day of searching for the section on ancient Chinese mythology that may or may not exist.

[killmypatience]

[She laughs as she continues to breeze through the books until she finds what she was looking for.]

At least it's good to know I'm useful for something.

[She glances back with a small smile.]

I'm Kate, by the way.

[procurer]

[ He returns her grin with one of his own, holding his hand out to her. ] Nick, but my friends usually just call me Hawley.

[killmypatience]

[Oh, hey, that name's familiar. She reaches forward to shake his hand, a bit of a smirk crossing her face.]

You wouldn't happen to be Abbie's Hawley, would you?

[procurer]

[ His eyebrows wing upwards at that statement. ]

What makes you think she's not my Abbie?

[ No, you were totally right the first time, Kate. ]

[killmypatience]

[Her eyebrow goes up at that.]

Well, one, I've met her before I met you. And two ... I've met her.

[Which may sound like the same point but it's really two different points. Abbie is the dominant one in any relationship, not the other way around.]

[procurer]

[ They're valid points, it's true.

Still, he sighs mournfully, like he's the most put-upon person in the world. ]

I suppose you're right. She's murder on a man's ego.

[killmypatience]

[She laughs before nodding.]

Probably. But I'm sure there are worse people to be attached to.

[procurer]

[ There are. He knows that all too well. ]

I suppose if I was going to get stuck here with anyone, I couldn't really pick a better partner than Mills, at least. Don't tell her I said that. She probably wouldn't believe you anyway. [ He adds the last with a crooked grin as he leans against the edge of a shelf. ]

So you're Kate, huh? She's mentioned you a time or two.

[killmypatience]

Has she?

[She doesn't seem as surprised as the question may sound. She was Abbie's mentor after all.]

I guess your mentor does come up pretty often in conversation.

[procurer]

Is that what you are? She skipped that part, but it makes sense.

[ It has him giving her a more intent look now, taking her in. ]

So I guess you've been here a while, then? If they're putting you on babysitting duty.

[killmypatience]

I've been here almost three years.

[Not as long as some, but longer than others.]

I've seen my fair share of missions though, and Abbie and I hit it off well.

[procurer]

[ He gives a low whistle at that. ]

Plenty of time to get settled in, then.

[ Although his expression inevitably softens at the mention of Abbie again. ]

She's a good one to have watching your back in a pinch. She'd make a good Knight. It fits her.

[killmypatience]

[She nods in agreement.]

I think so too. She really does seem to take to the cause, if nothing else.

[procurer]

[ He chuckles, because understatement much? ]

I don't think she's got it in her to do anything halfway. Least I've never seen it. She was this way back home, too. Always on a mission.

[killmypatience]

[She nods because that's a feeling she understands. Even when she was working as a bounty hunter, she always had to be moving.]

Then this is the best place for her to be. Better than idling without purpose.
