Did you all think you were going to get to spend your whole mission time just watching Dawson's Creek and going to bars and reading trashy romance novels and watching cats fly while Gar did all the work all week long?

TUESDAY || STAKEOUT

[This is quite possibly the most boring job in the history of jobs, which is maybe why Mark draws the short straw so many days this week. Either way, it's also an optimal job to stick one or two squires on with him.

It... mostly involves sitting in a car parked across the street from the Hoffman Institute campus, watching who enters the main building where Gar's working for Dr. Hoffman. And noting anyone who "looks suspicious".

In reality, this translates to listening to lots of Hispanic radio stations to stay awake, eating all the Chinese food, and being bored out of your minds.]

[ Buffy is sitting in the passenger's seat -- sucks to be whoever the other squire is because they're in back. She has one leg curled up, and she's sitting sideways facing Mark and, effectually, the front of the Hoffman Institute campus. She's poking at a carton of chinese food with chopsticks and she finally slurps back the rest of her lo mein noodles which had been classily dangling from her mouth.

Yep.

It's gonna be a long night.

Chew, chew, swallow. She starts rambling again. At least she's entertaining. ] So, we just sit here. Watching. [ Hrnnngh. ] Can watching at least include the playing of a game? It's not like an eye-requiring game. No spying.

I don't see why not. [In fact, his eyes light up at the prospect. And then suddenly dim as he narrows them] ... It's not Truth or Dare, is it?

Why, are you allergic to Truth or Dare? [ A beat. It's rhetorically judgy. She shakes her head. ] Nah, I mean, there's not really dare-room in here. I was thinking more along the lines of Anywhere but Here.

[He turns his head towards her slowly to fix her with a lowered gaze expression of you-can't-pull-one-over-on-me and says very seriously:] You can't be allergic to a game.

... But sure, sounds fun.

[ ... Is he serious. That serious look she can't -- Duh. Duh. But she is just shaking it off in favor of explaining. ]

You know. Like, if you could be anywhere but here, where would you be? Paint me a picture. Extra points for serious imagination.

WED || RESEARCH MODE

[Meanwhile, Kat spends a lot of her afternoons spread out all over the main living room area, with her laptop and lots of snacks and the TV blaring. For those who are tech minded, or want to go the old fashioned route and get books from the library or check old newspapers, she'll welcome to the company and assistance in doing Research checks on the Hoffman Institute. (Feel free to roll your check and put it in your subject line and I'll tell you what you guys find!)]

[Spike reluctantly starts looking through papers, but he's very distracted, and somewhat more interested in stealing snacks, watching the TV, and pacing restlessly. Yeah, best research assistant ever.]

[Sven too! They're like the best roommates ever, in addition to being the best research assistants ever.]

Not any time soon, apparently.

[^ snitty voice. He's walking across the living room carrying a stack of books and newspapers he found ... somewhere, when he manages to trip over Kat's laptop cord, yanking said cord out of the socket. He tries to toss the books and shit away from him so they aren't included in the glorious fall he's taking, but they go in the direction of an end table containing (1) lit candle, which they knock into, bringing the candle down with them on to floor. NOW THEY ARE KINDLING.

And if anyone cares, Sven hit his head on the coffee table. It hurt a lot. 8( ]

[OH GOOD JOB SVEN YOU ARE EVEN MORE FAIL AT THIS THAN SPIKE IS. Spike tries to dodge away reflex 8 but the candle lands on his leg, setting it ablaze even as he tries to move away. He lets out an agonised shout and manages to dump a glass of water on it before it manages to do more than 5 damage. But still. Ow, his leg.]

Bloody hell! Learn to walk, you clumsy git!

[He yells back from the floor:] It wasn't me! The cord was in the way! [He then waves his hand around to point to ... the cord he currently can't see anywhere.]

[And with an exceptionally amazing Nat 20, Kat manages to grab her laptop as it start going FLYING THROUGH THE AIR, and not even fall over while doing it. She turns with wide eyes towards the guy on fire and the ... big mess of burned up papers over there]

Those were library books, guys!

THURSDAY || INFILTRATION

[So Gar's gig doesn't give her much of a chance to explore the campus of the Institute beyond the main building where she works. Which is problematic, since she's still waiting for a good window of time to really break into his office and do her thing. Sure, she managed to get Kat access to tap his e-mails but that only goes so far.

Either way, Dumage spends her week arguing that she could do this all much better than Gar could, and so finally Gar relents and tells her that she can attempt to get inside some of the other buildings to at least plant bugs and cameras.

So she acquires a couple fake service outfits and plans to go in as a sexy elevator repair person. Good thing she knows jack all about elevator repair, but Kat claims she has that covered.

WHO WANTS TO GO UNDERCOVER AS HER ASSISTANT(S)?]

[So Martha is probably one of the worst choices possible for this, but Gar told her to go do it anyway. Or, you know, she asked nicely and Martha figured it was best to listen to her. Something like that. The point is, this uniform is really ugly and it's kind of annoying. Also itchy. And too large for her.]

Yeah, we really look like a couple of elevator repair people. This is a brilliant idea.

[witchwoman]

[Don't worry, Martha. Myri is an equally horrible choice, if not the most horrible, so you will obviously look awesome in comparison. How did Myrilandel end up here? Dumage kind of scares her, but... all she knows is that she was told to put on some strange clothes and is currently standing beside her fellow squire, looking uncomfortable.]

I'm still not sure I understand what an elevator is...

[Oh boy]

No one said you had to understand anything. Just bat your eyes if someone tries asking you anything. Works wonders. [And just to ensure that'll work for her too, she... unbuttons a few buttons on her uniform. Yep. Somehow it hugs her curves in the right places. Maybe she made some alterations. Either way, she puts a hat on and gives them both a tight smile, before hopping out of the van.]

[Myri slowly climbs out and follows after the Knight, still unsure what her part is in this at all. She leans over to Martha and whispers:]

I still wish I knew what an elevator was...

[Martha whispers back as they follow Dumage:] It's a sort of...metal box inside a building that's used to carry people from one floor to the other, instead of using stairs.

FRIDAY || INFORMATION SIFTING

[It's been a long week for Gar, whose work day really only starts by the time she leaves her "job" as Miranda to come back to the hotel. She's managed to create numerous document scans, upload files to thumb drives, take photos and video backlogs from security archives... but that means there is a shit ton of information to root through in an attempt to find anything worthwhile. For those with the patience, she'd really appreciate help with this headache of a job.

Isn't spywork glamorous 8| ]

[Myri stands awkwardly beside Gar, waiting for the right moment to clear her throat and make her presence known.]

Ahem...

[Once she has the woman's attention, she smiles shyly.]

I'm not certain how I can help, but I'd like to do what I can?

[rationalizes]

Oh! [She only starts a little at the interruption, and then smiles.] Myri, thank you. I'm certain we can find something! [She goes to put some papers in front of her] These documents were taken from his files - copies of course - but we're looking for any mentions of -- [And then she seems to pale, realizing something] Oh, I'd... forgotten, I'm sorry. [She pulls the papers back] Kat mentioned you-- [Awkkkward. She'll.. give you some pictures instead.] Perhaps assistance with these instead...

[Myri on the other hand isn't embarrassed at all. She's a smart girl and can put it together once she sees the papers Gar was going to hand to her and then looks at the pictures she was given instead.]

Where I come from, only trained magicians are taught to read. I understand that it's different here. I only hope that I can still find a way to help.

[She looks closer at the pictures.]</small. What would you like me to do with these?

[rationalizes]

I'm certain you can. And we'll find some time this week to work on teaching you when we can.

[She leans over to spread out some of the images] These are surveillance images from the lobby of different visitors over the past few weeks. We're looking for any who seem to have been allowed to meet with Dr. Hoffman personally, before I was stationed as secretary. Particularly any who looked suspicious or out of place - or met with him on multiple occasions.

[witchwoman]

[Myri's smile breaks into a grin at the mention of Gar helping her learn to read. She listens intently to the instructions for the photos.]

I've never seen such detailed drawings. [She takes a seat at the other side of the table and begins to look at each one very carefully.]
