Perched at the edge of any civilized lands, the small lumber town of Falcon's Hollow has always had to rely on itself to solve its  problems.  Now the hacking coughs of the sick are heard throughout the town.  The plague has come to the Hollow, and the town is ill equipped to stop it on its own, particularly given its resistance to magic.

That's where the Knights come in, sent to assist a local herbalist in putting together enough supplies to mass produce a cure.

[ there's nothing in it, save some old writing utensils, but she does find a secret compartment in a drawer!!! inside is a particularly well made handaxe, with magical runes on the blade (+1 hand axe), a small pouch, full of dwarven coin, and a small book, written entirely in dwarven.

logan keeps an eye out for more movement as she roots through the stuff, turning to glance at grimrot. ] You alright?

[Nels absently tosses out dancing lights to brighten the area up while he inspects Grimrot's wound. He's no cleric - but if he'd taken that blow he would be at death's door, so he's concerned...]

[Grimrot gives everyone an encouraging smile. Nerd though she might be, she's also an orc, and losing half her hit points is just not something she's going to cry over.]

Oh, I'm quite fine, thank you. See? [She takes one of the extracts from her belt and drinks it down (cure light wounds, 6 hp).] Feeling better already.

Got a feeling we'll find more wildlife while we're poking around this place. It's been abandoned long enough and it makes good nesting grounds. [ he nods against one wall, which is cracked enough to make way to another visible chamber. ] Might be some mushrooms in there.

Hopefully enough so we can leave. [ she pockets everything once more, tucking the book and gold away in her backpack. after a moment of thought, she keeps the handaxe free, tightening her grip on the handle. new weapon for abigail, wee. ]

Let's hope so. The sooner we can get back with this stuff, the better.

[And then he'll head in that direction, towards the visible chamber.]

[ gaping holes in the roof allow faint light to enter this ruined chamber. one of the stone columns that once supported the ceiling has toppled, its broken pieces littering the floor. a thick patch of black mushrooms(!!) hides in a nearby corner, giving the room an earthy scent that is barely noticeable above the stench of wet fur.

as they enter, a massive wolf - maybe five feet tall - leaps out of hiding to perch atop the ruined column, baring its teeth and letting out a ferocious growl (intimidate 16) before suddenly speaking, in growly english: "Why have you disturbed my rest?" ]

[ abigail, who seems tense and nervous, but not overly distressed by the turn of events (will save 20 total), looks at miles like DUDE THAT GIANT WOLF THAT IS WAY BIGGER THAN ME AND IS GONNA EAT ME LIKE I'M LITTLE RED IS TALKING.

Uh. We're looking for mushrooms. [ a brief pause. ] Sir.

[ "Greypelt," it corrects. "You wish to take my mushrooms?" its eyes track over to the giant bouquet of them. "Then you must do something for me."

logan looks unimpressed and asks very flatly: ] What.

[ "Monsters have taken root, here in my home. Destroy them, and you can take all of these." ]

We've been doing that. [ u lazy ho. ]

[ "What have you slain? There are many creatures who have infested this place. Darkmantles, a bat swarm, and a spider in the watchtower outside." ]

How big of a spider we talkin' about?

[ the wolf looked between them, tail swishing between its legs. "Big." ]

I'm always down for killing spiders.

Where are these bats you're on about?

[ "Follow the hall to the end, and you'll find them infesting the ruins there," it snarls. "Simple tasks for those who could so easily fell my brethren." ]

Fine. We kill them and we get the mushrooms. Deal.

[ abigail hesitates, licking her lips and staring at the wolf. (sense motive 26) he's huge. way bigger than the dark mantles. why didn't he just do it himself? or make his pack do it? trust no man. ]

Oh, yeah. Totally simple.

[No sarcasm there at all. Nope. idek what you're talking about.]

[ abigail gets a VERY BAD FEELING ABOUT THIS. IT MAKES NO SENSE and also that wolf is eyeing them all up like he's oh so hungreh. ]

Logan... [ it's just his name, but it's heavily weighted with NOPE THIS IS A BAD PLAN, and she keeps her eyes on greypelt the entire time, fingers twitching against her knife like she will throw it at his face if he so much as takes a deep breath. ]

[grimrot]

[Grimrot is also staring at the wolf, but trying to figure out more about it in a very different way (knowledge arcana(???) 23 IF THAT IS THE RIGHT KNOWLEDGE she knows other kinds of knowledge better).]

[ grimrot knows all about worgs really. logan looks between them all, raising one woolly brow at the worg. ] Maybe I got a better idea. [ snikt goes his claws. ] You just give us those, and we leave without any trouble.

[ his intimidate was only a 14 though so the wolf just starts laughing, which is a horrible noise.

"You're not the only one who has claws. Do you expect me to fear yours?" ]

[grimrot]

[Grimrot steps forward, hands held forward.] Look, we're simply surprised that a Worg would need help hunting. Can you really blame us for suspecting there might be more to the story? [Diplomacy 24.]

[ logan looks annoyed by this attempt at talking it down, HE WAS ALL READY TO FIGHT IT.

"I can't be bothered with such filth. I have better prey to stalk." ]

Yeah, I'll bet you do.

[ what if... abigail... throws one of her knives at it. :)

'cause she's gonna, with supreme purpose. (crit atk 26, dmg 18) because of her skills (and the bloodletting feat), if it hits he'll begin bleeding and take 1 additional point of damage per round until the wound is healed because that feat is fucking hella, tbh.

THIS IS NOT A FRIENDLY PUPPY! ]

[Miles will take that cue, because the thing sure isn't going to keep talking to them with a knife sticking out of it, and he dashes forward to punch the thing in the face. 'Cause that's what he's good at. Cars and punching (atk 22, 8 dmg if it hits).]

[ abigail's knife buries itself in the creature's throat, blood spurting out and matting its fur. before it can recover enough to react, miles is upon it, slamming a fist into its snout, and knocking loose a fang.

veins bulge out of logan's forehead as he goes into a rage, letting out a bestial roar and lunging forward to bury his claws in its side (atk 33, dmg 20). the wolf growls and snaps its jaws as he twists the blades inside of him, but it doesn't appear to be dead yet. ]

[Nels would have preferred walking into a trap, over a cowardly sneak attack... But no going back now. He draws his blade and charges, slashing with a mighty 31 (Boosted with cunning insight, and just one shy of a critical. Cruel world.). For 12 damage.]
