With most of the team staunchly convinced that about to go check out Area 51, they head off to Guadalajara, Mexico, to investigate local rumors of a crash site outside the city. One of the best things about this little trip is that even in February, it's in the seventies, so there's definitely a vacation air to arriving in the bustling city. They'll need to rent a car and head out in the direction of the supposed crash in the flat countryside. It's a fourteen hour flight so get comfortable.

[ A similar sidelong glance towards Peter betrays some nervousness on Skye's part, but she rallies to straighten her back, pointing at Kali briefly with raised eyebrows. The look is meant to communicate DON'T HURT MY VAN, but since she's pretending to be an alien, she's not really gonna say that ... out loud ...

Then she struts after Peter and the government official, shoulders slumping slightly as she mutters to him, ] Earth's got quite the welcome mat, huh? [ Her tone speaks to apology, even if the words are carefully constructed to make it sound like commiserating over their mutual crashlanding. ]

[ calling after skye and peter: ] I don't speak alien facial expression! Gosh, what do you people not understand about raised in a lab with absolutely no emphasis on interpersonal skills? And you still didn't tell me about Ziggy Stardust!

[ kali sighs, doing some mental math on how many people she can disable without anyone else getting shot. much like the hunger games, the odds are not actually in her favor and it's very frustrating. she huffs, crossing her arms. at least skye has her gun. ]

Well, I hope I'm never farmed out to this facility. This is a hostile work environment.

Time to stop playing by the rules. [Carol saunters over to the guards and gives them a smile that doesn't reach her eyes.] Excuse me, I need to use the restroom. Urgently. For feminine reasons. [Bluff 13 but come on guys do you really want to call her on that one? Do you? But anyone who thought for one second Carol would let herself be herded to a safe waiting area doesn't know her very well.]

Better let me through or things could get messy.

[Malina will also wander a bit closer because she is all for not playing by the rules, but she has no idea what Carol is up to so she hangs back a bit. She's basically hanging close enough to cast Charm Person on one of the guards under her breath to give that bluff a little more oomph (DC will save 16 to resist the spell itself and a charisma check of 23 because they're on opposing sides). She just hoped she picked the right guard.]

Better do as she says, boys. This time of the month can make her really cranky.

[ apparently these guards were picked for their UNSWERVING WILL. never dropping the gun, the soldier that carol's addressed states flatly: ] It's going to have to wait until we get someone to verify your IDs. We're already placing some calls. You'd better hope someone is willing to claim you, classified or no. [ he gesticulates with the weapon towards a side door. ] This way.

It's a joint task force comprising of multiple agencies so no one can get the drop on the other and so no one can take the blame either. [ she walks toward the door before adding, ] You might as well just call Pegasus since you know where I'm from.

[ she's not sure if this is one of those times she's allowed to be like CALL THE INSTITUTE HQ so she refrains. ]

It's okay. [Carol looks over at Malina, shaking her head in mock-sadness.] Can't say we didn't warn him.

[And without more warning than that, she punches the soldier in the face... or tries to (atk 21 dmg 12 if it hits, atk crit fail :( ).]

See? Cranky.

Oh, for fuck's sake! [ALEX WOULD LIKE TO REITERATE THAT HE DOES NOT LIKE THIS PLAN.]

[ kali looks a little bit like she wants to punch carol in the face. no! do not incite violence while the civilian members of the team are not in their custody! now they can be used as leverage or hurt on principle. they've sure as shit lost any chance of that woman cooperating with them in the slightest now and she still has skye and peter. luckily, kali's brain runs a thousand miles a second when it comes to combat and tactics, so she turns on her heel and sprints toward the door skye and peter disappeared through, drawing her gun as she goes. she promised she would keep skye safe, she's not going to break that promise because someone has a problem with impulse control. ]

[It was going to come to punching sooner or later. There was no way their story would check out, and the guards already suspected as much. They weren't getting Skye and Peter back the easy way. Of course, she also hasn't once in her life considered Peter Quill a civilian.

She notes with some satisfaction that Kali's going after them. Good. The sooner they get them back, the sooner they can get out of here with Peter's ship.

She punches the same guard again (atk 29 dmg 20) and then kicks the guy next to him in the chest (atk NAT 20 dmg 36). There are only four guards. It's really not a fair fight.]

[even if their story wasn't going to check out, he would've rather dealt with that bridge when they came to it instead of being the ones to make the first aggressive move in unfamiliar territory. looking even more pissed off than his usual resting bitch face portrays, he pulls out his gun and shoots at the guard closest to him twice (or whatever one carol's not in melee with i guess), one atk 23 for 7 dmg and then an atk 9 that goes wide.]

[Malina's personally with Alex on this one. If they had figured out they weren't who they said they were, at least they wouldn't have been the aggressors. Never mind the fact that the plan was never to demand Peter's ship back in the first place. She was planning on being a little more subtle than that.

But apparently Carol and subtle do not go hand in hand.

Since Kali's already taken off to protect Skye and Peter, she's just going to react to what's in front of her and cast Shocking Grasp (touch attack 22 - 25 if they happen to be wearing/carrying a lot of metal, electricity damage 23 if it hits) on whatever guard is left that's not currently engaged.]

[ for my sanity, guards now have names sewn on their uniforms: castille, gomez, morales, and ortega.

carol's first hit strikes castille in the face, but he catches her second hit when she crit fails, and bends her arm backwards painfully (3 dmg). as kali starts towards the doors, one of the guards tries to trip her but doesn't come anywhere close, so she'll just make it to the doors on her next turn, to discover that they are fully sealed. there's a retinal scanner next to them.

castille takes carol's second hit with a grunt, and gomez gets kicked in the chest, staggering back a few feet, and then sprawling backwards onto his ass as part of his crit fail.

alex's bullet rips into morales, while malina's spell sends blue electricity coursing across ortega.

castille steps back away from carol, unloading his weapon at her, but she's too close and too fast for him to get a good lead on her (atk 15/8). morales shoots back at alex (atk 19/7). unfortunately the one hit lands with triple penetration (28 dmg). ortega manages to fight through the electricity pain, and steps back from malina's grip to fire at her (atk 18/21; dmg 15 & 8) ]

[ gd retinal scanners!! instead of turning to run back and grab a guy, she just yells back to the rest of the team: ] I'm gonna need an eye! So if someone could throw me a guard that would be great!

[ and while she is yelling for back up, she will fire at ortega. (atk 25 (atk 31 -6 for range penalty), dmg 9) ]

[Since she and Castille have such a great relationship at this point, she goes to grapple him. But after math stuff I worked out with Arden in IM it fails. Next round....]

[for the record ALEX DID NOT TAKE 28 DMG HE IS FINE bc his ac is higher than that. but there is a bullet embedded in his undercover shirt now. and it stung a little. :( ] It's gonna be a fuckin' minute! [and now he shoots back at morales again with an atk 26 and an atk 9. 13 dmg.]

[Malina's going to stumble back at the two shots her hand coming up on instinct to quell the bleeding, but she's still on her feet, and she's pissed. She rears back before casting Acid Arrow at Ortega (touch attack 19, damage 5 if it hits, and if it does hit and is not neutralized it will stay on him for 2 more rounds and do 2d4 of damage each round).]

[ kali's shot strikes ortega as castille wrestles with carol. alex gets morales in the shoulder, while the arrow embeds itself in ortega.

castille disengages from carol to keep backing away, leading her further from the group and firing again. his shot is a crit fail though, whizzing past her ear and striking morales (7 dmg). his second shot of a 24 misses as well, i think.

gomez struggles to his feet, and makes a break for a panel on the wall. morales fires at alex again (atk 19 and 14), missing both times. ortega takes 5 more acid dmg, hissing as he shoots at malina (atk 13 & 19, dmg 5). ]

Oh no you don't! [ abandoning the retinal scanner for now, kali moves forward and fires on gomez, whom i will now only imagine is a gomez from the addams family lookalike. (atk nat 20, 26 total with range penalty; dmg 29) ]

[Yeah there will be no going for panels. Carol gives up on Castille for the moment, flying over to intercept Gomez, coming down hard foot first, though she does hold back a little (atk 30, subdual dmg 17). She won't kill if she has the choice.]

[alex stays locked in his shoot-out with morales lmao, firing again with a ranged atk 25 and then a NAT 20 BITCHES. for 8 and 14 dmg.]

Shit.

[The word is a hiss as the third bullet hits, and she retaliates quickly, falling back on an old spell that she knows well and casting Flaming Sphere right in Ortega's face (fire damage 9, reflex save DC 16 to negate damage, fireball lasts for 7 rounds as a note to myself).]

[ kali's shot cracks gomez in the back, and he lets out a shout, but it's carol's foot in his back moments later that lays him flat, his head cracking to the floor as unconsciousness takes him.

alex peppers morales with a couple more great shots, one hitting him right in the leg, blossoming blood through his pants.

ortega is definitely not expecting FIRE TO HIS FACE, and shakes his head back and forth screaming as he's burned.

castille backs further towards the doors through which they entered the place, firing again at carol (atk 15). morales sees gomez go down and grimaces, firing again at alex (atk 12) and yelling "Fall back!" ortega is only happy to fucking run from that fireball, also making a break for castille. ]

Hey! Alex, Carol, stop them! [ malina is hurt so kali puts her on the back burner for a second as she hurries to gomez's unconscious body. he doesn't need to be away for the retinal scan, tbh. and malina can help her deal with that when she reaches him. which she probably will next round. so... she's just moving for this one. ]
