Strange transmissions cutting into radio stations with no recognizable source. Mysterious messages in Shadowkind languages that no one's been able to decipher. And very few leads on where to go with all of this, except for a couple names of some of the random citizens who seem to have received the messages. It's hardly much to go on, but definitely an interesting mystery, that takes the small team into the heart of NYC. They arrange their flight to arrive after sundown, for Davin's sake, and he's pretty openly scornful about being assigned to what's likely a wild goose chase.

[ davin slinks up behind them, probably without any of them noticing, speaking up only when he's already standing there, hands in his pockets. ] Did you figure out what's so special about it?

[ alice jumps and turns on him like FFS DUDE MANNERS! before grumbling: ] I'm going to get you a bell. [ grumbles over, she twists the bunbun so he can see it. ] There's a camera hidden in it's eye.

Connected to what?

[ she affixes him with a dry look, she's not a techie. ] It didn't say on the box. [ she's not a miracle worker either, okay. ] I'm not sure they can connect to this shit remotely from HQ. Did you get anything from what's-his-face?

[recycling]

[ he looks chagrined a second, glancing at sawyer, uncertain about saying that much in front of her, but finally says: ] He... said his employer's nephew was dying of cancer, and the toy was supposed to be a birthday present for his last birthday ever.

That's what he said in the store. Did he mention who his employer is?

[ shh it'd been a long time i forgot what i already said, i'm amazing. ] Wouldn't say. Which seemed weird enough.

[ her next question wants to be "is he alive??" but she'd told sawyer he would be so she's not going question him in front of her. IT'S A HARD LIFE.

she tsks. ] I was thinking they might be using it to case houses for break ins, but... the fact that he wouldn't change his story sounds creepily cult or mafia like. And no one is gonna steal from the mafia. In New York. That's suicidal.

[ she huffs. ]

If he was, it sounds like we did the kid a favor.

I wanna check the break in angle, you wanna chase down any more info on John Cena back there? See if you can find his boss? And his boss' possibly fictional nephew.

[Sawyer is just going to stand there and watch this back and forth like she's at a tennis match before finally raising her hand.]

Yeah, hi. Sawyer. [Jerking a thumb at herself.] Hate to break this up while you guys are on a roll and all but... who are you people exactly?

[ her lips purse, mildly irritated. new yorkers. ] Karthur Institute.

[ he glances over at sawyer, looking her over with a frown ] We... handle situations like these.

[incantatio]

You... handle situations like, car radios telling people to go to a Toy Store and buy a Bunny... [Tone dry enough that it's hard to tell if she's being skeptical or just amused.] While she tazes people and you get told not to kill people? [A beat, then an aside to Alice.] Fully in support of the tazing though, just for the record.

Yeah, that's pretty much our job. [ sometimes she gets stabbed by flying monkeys, it happens. ]

[recycling]

You don't really think this sounds like the sort of things the cops are qualified for, do you?

[incantatio]

This is New York. I think there's a lot the cops aren't qualified to handle. [Hudson River, anyone?]

Mind if I tag along? [She nods at the bunny and adds.] The ominous 'you must not fail' kind of has me wanting to go where the rabbit goes.

[ alice looks at davin like ITS UR CALL, MISSION LEADER. she does know when to defer to the boss, even if she doesn't do it often. ]

Are you going to be handy to keep around?

[incantatio]

[An eyebrow slowly arches, Sawyer showing with action rather than words as she sets her eyes on a nearby trash can. Extending a hand towards an empty soda cup, she whispers something and with ease, raises the cup from the ground and deposits it in the trash before turning her focus back on Davin. (Casts Mage Hand)]

Handy enough for you? [The smallest hint of a grin playing across her lips.]

Not bad. [ he actually almost - ALMOST - smiles ] If only we had some way to trace this thing, where it's sending this info back to.

I'm not in the Hoard, that's not my area of expertise. [ lmao she doesn't even really know anyone in the dragon's hoard so she can't even call for back up. ]
