slovechnia ♔ hey little sister what have you done

♬ White Wedding - Billy Idol
WHO || Failboat, Dimitris Sarandis, Amanda Moulet, invited wedding guests, and more [closed]
WHAT || The Knights head to Slovechnia to interrupt Dimitris' wedding to Dumage's sister
WHERE || Flight from London to Slovechnia; Slovechnia
WHEN || Sometime in February
HOW || Actionspam or prose
The morning after, the Knights board a plane at their private airfield, and begin the couple hour flight to the country of Slovechnia. Wynn has laid out a plan for them as such, leaving Sir Gar in charge of seeing it executed: they are to send in a few Knights to infiltrate the wedding, while others steal an ambulance from a local hospital. Using magic to make Sarandis think he's having a heart attack during the ceremony, they will intercept the outgoing call to the paramedics, and pose as them to take him out of there and straight to a private airfield to meet with Wynn. They're all aware, however, of just how smoothly their plans tend to go where these villains are involved - especially if the Mind Master shows up.
Either way, it promises to be an interesting day...

but it's then that dimitris takes advantage of the moment to push to his feet and move to critically stab alainn right in the back.
rose, however, moved along with her - and so it's into rose's gut that the blade sinks as she slips between them, and dimitris' lip twists with wry disdain as he sees who stands in front of him (dmg 12) ]

She catches sight of his movement, the flash of his rapier as the sun dances off the blade, Rose moving with quick feet to put herself between Alainn's back and Dimitri's weapon.
There is a second between them as she looks into his eyes and feels his blade pierce her flesh. Her own flashing, not with pain but a rage she's not felt in some time and she can hear it as clear as if she were still standing in the tank. The words he spoke to her before her whole world was quite literally blown apart.
Tell Thomas Bancroft hello, will you.
Before she can even think, (She failed that WS) her fingers close around the cool metal of her stake. Rose's hand moves to Dimitris' shoulder, pulling him close as she runs him through with her stake, finishing with her lips at his ear, her voice a low, cold whisper]
You won't be seeing Thomas Bancroft where you're going. [Atk Nat 20 Dmg 74] Say hi to Lucifer for me.

It turns out she's right to be tense as Sarandis tries to take advantage of the situation, only to have the rest of his miserable life cut very violently short by Rose's stake. She catches every word of that whisper (nat 20 listen), her expression grave and solemn as the woman who was once her best friend finishes the job, though she finds herself turning away and taking a few steps from the circle that formed around the site of the duel.
Maybe she's seen enough violence for one day.]

mark's hand grips alainn's arm and he moves her back beside him the moment he realizes what is happening - a moment that's too late, and he watches with wide eyes as rose's weapon sinks into dimitris' chest, piercing all the way through, blood gurgling out of his mouth, cutting off any final words he might have to offer. his eyes roll back, and he slowly slips off from the blade, collapsing onto the ground, as mark keeps his arm firmly around alainn, watching the life leave the man who ruined so much of his past.
his eyes drift to rose, and there's a weary gratitude in them - for saving alainn, yes, but maybe for something else too. he certainly doesn't look like he's discontent about not having twisted that final knife and taken dimitris' life himself.
he just looks tired, and glad to see it done. and when it's clear that it is, he turns back to meet wynn's gaze, and sees the knight's leader watching him carefully, granting him a single nod of approval.
mark doesn't return it, turning instead towards alainn more fully, and saying quietly, but firmly: ] Let's go home.

Her gaze tracks Mark as he moves aside with Alainn, then focuses on where Elena has moved to. It seems like a bad time, but there's unlikely to be a better one, so she takes it open herself to draw away in that direction, not sparing a single word for Sarandis' corpse or even a second look.
She's getting used to them.
She touches Des' shoulder to get past him to Elena. ] Can you give me a minute? [ Her eyes track past him to Elena, more interested in her permission than Des' Green eyes say that she understands all too well why Buffy would be the last person Elena might want to talk to right now, but she also seems deliberate in how she picks this moment. ]

Is it...? Is it over?

Covered in blood that is more Dimitris' than her own, her gaze shifts to Mark. Her own eyes bordering on vacant but in that moment, she gets what he's saying without words (SM 27) and merely nods her head, lips pressed into a grim line.
It's only then that Rose becomes painfully aware of everyone around her, the bloodied stake in her hand, the lifeless corpse at her feet and her gaze lifts to Wynn now, her own expression unreadable at first as Rose barely registers the closing of her wounds from Myri's magic.]
It's over. [And yet there's a lack of certainty in those two words, like she won't fully believe it until it comes from the man in front of her (Wynn) and it's almost like she's looking for his understanding, if not his forgiveness right now.]

Whatever you have to say to me, you can say in front of Des.

[ Something in that visibly unnerves her, as if it cuts a wider canyon between her and her friends to not have noticed something like that, or to feel cut out of it and treated like an outsider by them. As if their closeness has come at the cost of hers. ]
I just … wanted to say thanks for what you did in there.

Wynn might well be the only person who would see that doing this has cost her anything but perhaps, what is twisting her insides the most? Is not the fact that she took Dimitris' life, but that she feels absolutely nothing for having done so.
Her lips twitch, words threatening to pass her lips but they get trapped in the back of her throat, Rose swallowing hard and pushing them back down as shoulders that had been radiating with tension, finally slump with exhaustion and all she can manage is a nod, not trusting her own voice, pulling strength from Wynn's words as she tries to will herself to move.]

[Elena's expression seems to falter, then, and it becomes clear that that is...not at all what she thought was going to come out of Buffy's mouth, as if she thought she was going to have to defend herself only to be completely blindsided by something else entirely.
Eventually, she shakes her head, sighing.]
You don't need to thank me. I did what had to be done under the circumstances. [Her expression is tired, but soft as she looks at her.] I'm just glad we got out of there unscathed.

More to the point, and ignoring Des entirely because she's frankly not sure what he's doing here (seriously she can't be the only one recognizing it's a little weird that he and Elena are suddenly besties, right?), she keeps her eyes on Elena and reaffirms— ]
I do. Even if it was just for the mission, it— I really screwed things up. I thought I was helping, but I was just making things worse. I've been doing a lot of that lately. So I wanted to … to make sure that you know I see it too.

Thank you for making sure I was aware of it. But I know better than anyone that everyone makes mistakes, even if I haven't always admitted my own when I should have. It's acknowledging when you've made them that's important.
[Then she looks at Des, placing a hand on his shoulder and giving it a gentle squeeze.]
Right?

[he clears his throat.] I guess we've... Got a significantly less tense plane ride in our futures now. I'll, uh... I'll let you ladies talk.
[he gestures awkwardly and then just sort of wanders back to the rest of the group.]

Even more satisfying that he landed on his back. [With a giant hole in his chest.] Can't believe it's bloody over.
