[  Jaina Solo has been searching for more information about the Jedi Order and the Force for years now, certain that she and her family can't be the only ones who fell through from a galaxy far, far away.  It would seem that her search has finally paid off:  a Jedi Master may have been recently seen in Malaysia, taking a boat to the island of Luzon, where she was discovered dead on the slopes of a volcano.

With the fallen Jedi's lightsaber in hand, Jaina has asked her friends and family to help her investigate, and try to recover the lost item that the Jedi was carrying on her person - one that was not left with the body.    They've decided to head to the port first, to see what rumors may be left in her wake.  The beautiful Malaysia port of Kudat looks out over inviting blue waters, a number of ships lined up here of all shapes and sizes.  ]

[ To a certain degree, the port flooded with bodies is overwhelming: the closest Rey has come to seeing this many people in one location was Starkiller Base, where she'd made it her goal to encounter as few people as she could during her stay. The comparison carries more weight than she'd like to admit, given the fact that they were now too hunting a Jedi killer.

She swallows thickly and stepped out onto the dock as they come up on it; the plan is decided, so she doesn't wait to discuss it a second time. They'll look for information here, then determine if their time is better spent at the place where the body was found or elsewhere, so she sets about soliciting the sailors and locals with the description of the woman (gather information 20 total). ]

[He's pretty comfortable around this many people and it shows.

However, as Miles roams the dock, it's clear that he's distracted by this fun place he's never been before, or he's getting unlucky, or he's asking the wrong questions (gather information 8).]

[Han's plenty comfortable with the situation, but in his experience, you get more information from the people who hang around the local tavern. ...his intentions are good, but once he gets to the tavern, he gets a little more invested in the alcohol than he means to and ends up in a high stakes game of poker where he forgets exactly what he's supposed to be asking until it's a little too late (gather information crit fail). #fatheroftheyear ]

[Poe isn't really doing much better (gather info 7). Of course, this is also someplace new so he is just looking around with the oooo, shiny face and smiling at the cute people. BB-8 is going to stay on his heels, his little head twirling around almost in mimic of his master]

[ lmao jaina's was an 8, because I guess she is just literally asking the same bad questions with miles #romance

bb-8 gets a lot of weird looks and smartphone pictures taken, while han finds himself in a game with some guys who really seem to know what they're doing... (make a gamble check, han).

rey is the only one who actually finds someone who recognizes the description. he's an older man futzing with a net, and he looks at her strangely for a moment, his english apparently not that great, before nodding a few times.

"Yes, yes. She came for a boat here. Took a boat to Luzon." ]

[ Noticing the strain he puts forth to understand her, Rey slows her speech and breaks it into short, digestible phrases, experienced with language barriers. It took her some time to learn Teedo, and she still could only half-understand shyriiwook. Patience would help, or so she hoped, offering the old man a grateful smile and urging him further (diplomacy 26 sO CLOSE TO NAT 20 OMFG). ] Can you remember what day she left? I'd like to know if anyone else went out that way on the same day or shortly after. Maybe someone strange was lurking near the docks.

[ he seems to recognize the effort she's putting forth, and looks grateful for it, which possibly makes him all the more willing to talk. he nods when she starts talking about others leaving the same day.

"There was one... other boat... that put out the same day. I knew the man who took the job - he has not come back from that trip yet. I did not think he would be gone so long." ]

[ For a moment, Rey's eyes light up—hope, or at the very least, the start of a lead. They might just find the trail of this woman yet. But it dims a moment later with concern that whoever had killed Jaina's hopeful Jedi master had likely also killed this man's friend. Rey tries to hold out hope. ]

If you tell me more about him, we can let you know if we see him. [ She keeps her words as simple as she can, short sentences only. ] What did he look like? Or better yet, what did his boat look like? Did you see the person who hired him?

[ he nods. "I have a photograph." he takes a few shuffling steps to a door nearby, heading in and then returning with a picture that seems to have been pulled off a tackboard, of a middle-aged man with some gray hair around his temples, holding up a big fish with a grin on his face. "He has a larger boat, with the name 'Summer Wind' on the side." he hesitates a moment before he says: "The person who hired him... they were very strange. I did not see their face because they had covered it." ]

[ The mention of a covered face makes her uneasy as she takes the photograph, examines it carefully. ]

Covered with what?

[ The memory of a warped black mask so glossy that it reflected her own features back at her surfaces, and she shoves it down as the taste of iron floods her mouth. She's sure that's not what he means, but the information nonetheless seems to stir with the promise of the Dark Side. ]

[Poe was about to give up when he heard Rey talking to the old man (Listen 17). He knew it was better not to interrupt when she was doing so well getting the information (Tactics 16) so he just knelt down to brush some dirt off BB-8 and keep an eye out for anyone who may take notice of Rey's inquisition]

[ "A black cloak," he says, gesturing towards his face. "But even beneath that, some sort of... armor." ]

[forcevisions]

... Armor. [ she shakes her head, resistant to an assumption she resolutely believes impossible. ] Like a mask? A helmet of some kind?

[flyingsolo]

[ he nods once. "Some kind of mask, yes. I did not see much. Silver, maybe." ]

You don't have to apologize. [ She's quick to school her expression, tightening it, then drumming up the smile that this old dude has warranted. Regardless of who is waiting for them in this metal mask and cloak, they're one step closer to him. ] Thank you. You've been a great help. [ she looks down at the photo, then holds it aloft to indicate it and asks, ] Can I keep this?

[ the man hesitates. "It is the only photo I have of him..." ]

[ Oh. :( She all too keenly identifies with the pain of not wanting to give up something like that. Luckily, she has an idea for a solution (wis 13). ]

I understand. [ she nods, then pulls out her phone. ] Here. I'll just take a picture. If I find him, I'll be sure to say you're looking for him. [ she snaps a picture of the picture, makes sure it's clear, then hands it back to the old man. ] Thank you.

[ he nods and takes the picture back inside as jaina, miles, and poe converge on rey ] Did you find something?

[forcevisions]

[ Rey turns and nods to Jaina. ]

The same day the Jedi traveled to Luzon, another boat left carrying a passenger in a black hood, who wore some kind of silver mask. The ship hasn't returned yet. [ She holds up her phone. ] This is its captain, the man I believe we should be looking for.

Nice work! That's a lead if I've ever heard one.

Then I guess we know who to find next. Next boat to Luzon?

Sounds like a plan to me?

That's just what I was thinking. But— [ She looks to those she knows have been in this world longer: Jaina, Miles, and Han. ] Are there any other islands close enough that they might have sailed to from Luzon? If they're not still there, we might need to chase them.

I'd have to look at a map, but I think there are a lot of islands out there.

Then we'll have to hope that someone on Luzon saw where he went or that he left some other trail.
