Cordelia and Steve have gotten together to plan a rather fun party to celebrate Sarandis being taken down. Abbie even managed to grab them a rather awesome band to entertain the guests and everything else was hand picked and decided on by Cordy and Steve. It's not as fancy as a squiring after party, but it's just as fun. The ballroom has been "dressed down" a little to match the relaxed atmosphere. Enjoy yourselves!

[ Buffy doesn't come out for every squiring party—she's used to being gone for most of them—so the party burnout hasn't struck her in the same way it would have some others. It still holds some novelty, particularly since it's a party at the castle and not some fancy-dress undercover event for the talisman mission.

So in club-wear rather than formalwear, in the form of a crop-top and a high-waisted miniskirt, she looks out over the party and smiles with a sense of finality and closure, thinking that this is a well-earned victory a long time coming. Anyone else, and it might seem in bad taste, but Dimitris Sarandis was a terrorist and a monster.

She pushes away from the wall and makes her way to the dance floor to get her '90s groove on (perform dance 14). ]

[ annnnd she's bound to run into the hostess of the party at some point. who looks her over with clear surprise. ] Buffy!

You know, I was starting to think people were just making up that you were part of this scene.

[slay]

... Bu-wha? [ Buffy blinks with exactly zero recognition, staring at Cordelia as if she expects it to somehow all fall into place. Spoiler: it doesn't. ] ... Do I ... know you? No offense. I mean, this has happened to me a lot, actually, so I figure the answer's probably yes.

Right, Faith mentioned you got the full Veil whammy. [ cordelia, at least, doesn't seem to be having an existential crisis about you forgetting her, buffy. in fact... ] How nice for you. If anyone needed a clean slate...

What is that supposed to mean?

I just mean it's not like you had a lot going for you. We can't all have great high school careers.

[slay]

Wow. Yeah, can we just rewind the "no offense" part of my not remembering you?

[Sam dragged his butt to this party for at least a little while, at least, though he feels a little weird about having a party to celebrate someone's death, no matter how shitty they were.

He catches sight of her on the dance floor from his spot at one of the tables on the outskirts where he's nursing a beer, and he waves hello at her when they meet eyes for however briefly.]

[slay]

[ Buffy holds his gaze when she catches sight of him, and when it becomes apparent he won't be making his way to the dance floor, she gives up on the impossible dream of winning Dancing with the Stars and heads over to him. ]

Hey, wallflower.

[familybusiness]

[He would look like an ogre trying to dance, okay. He probably clomps around or something.

He smiles crookedly when she walks over.]

Better than having someone trip over my big feet, right? [A beat, before:] You look happy.

[Which he'll just take as a good sign unless told otherwise. Evil dictator dead or not, it's still a mission and it probably still could have been super shitty to go through. He's not usually pleased as punch after a hunt and it kind of equates in his mind like that.]

[slay]

Relieved. Ish. [ She tips her head to the side. ] That's the thing with missions like this one. You take one weight off, put another weight on. It's like ... Jenga, but with emotional disturbance. [ her nose crinkles. ] Evil Jenga.

[familybusiness]

Doesn't sound like a game I'd want to play. I think I get what you mean, though.

[Most of what he's dealt with has been more cut and dry, but not every case back home had been.]

As long as you're holding up okay.

[slay]

[ She gives the thoughtful nod of "yeah, managing." Some chagrin persists, but she shrugs it off as easily as she had coming through those doors. ]

Though I did have some weirdo from Sunnydale trying to bring my night down by challenging my Slayer status. What is it with Wynn and recruiting whackjobs?

[recruited]

[ Here he comes. A little bit after Cordy speaks to her, but not for anything bad. Steve's here to apologize for his walk out at the briefing. He's apologized to Wynn already, but he feels compelled to apologize to the others in the meeting. ]

Hey there.

[slay]

Steve, hey. [ Buffy turns and nods to him, a smile coming to her face despite Cordelia's earlier ... introduction. ]

[recruited]

Do you have a minute?

[ Because if she's busy partying he won't ruin any of that. ]

[slay]

I have many minutes. [ She gestures for him to take up the space beside her and get cozy. ] What's up? If this is about your girlfriend ...

[recruited]

[ Steve does take up that space next to her. He looks a little confused about the last comment because him and Cordelia just made things official. Apparently she's decided to share the news. ]

What happened with Cordelia?

[slay]

Oh, so that's her name. I didn't catch it between her telling me that I'm hallucinating my demon-fighting superpowers and recounting all the dropping out of high school I did right before she started running her mouth about the wedding.

[likeababyduck]

[Buffy's dancing pretty well! Sweets, unfortunately, is not (perform dance 4). Apparently none of my characters can dance, it is a running trend. But when Sweets sees Buffy he will sashay his way over and flash her a smile.]

Buffy, hey.

[slay]

Sweets! You ... [ She presses her lips together and nods, observing his ...earnest ... dancing. ] Look ready for the drinks table. Wanna boogie over with me?

[likeababyduck]

[He catches on that he's not really cutting the best rug at the moment (wisdom 21), but he'll nod with a smile as she attempts to steer him away.]

Sure. Sounds good.

[Though he will continue to boggie until they get there.]

[slay]

[ Oh my god she was being figurative but here he is and she's just ... laughing all the way to the drinks table, where she shakes her head. ]

For a guy who wears ties and sweater vests, you really know how to cut footloose.

[He laughs.]

Hey, having fun is just as important as working hard. The key to a happy life is a healthy mix of both.
