The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

[ Okay. So, she was pretty new to this and making a good impression seemed to be her primary concern. Cassie arrives a little late, having started off in the wardrobe dept rougher than normal - probably nerves from trying not to biff it during the ceremony. She'd opted for classy with a touch of bonus height (disguise 21). Girl loves her heels, ok. Except ones with ankle straps because those things kill and she loses her shoes enough as is. No need to break a bone thanks to them. It's weird to show off her back without her tattoo, but it was for the best she didn't have that right now. Even if it left her feeling pretty naked.

Curls pulled into a pretty up-do and a drink in hand, she's just gonna kinda chill off to the side and observe. Although, she won't say no to someone dragging her out to dance or stopping by to chat. She just might be awkward for a little bit - been awhile since she's been around this many people without someone like Mircea or even Pritkin. It's fine. Totally.

She may or may not also biff it at some point during the night, quick to pop up and look around like nothing happened because nothing happened. You saw nothing. Nothing. ]

[David isn't supposed to be here. Or, he is, actually, but he was going to skip this one and then made his way through the ballroom because of habit more than anything else. So he is definitely not dressed for a squiring party (disguise crit fail).

But he does arrive just in time to see Cassie start to pitch forward and reach out to catch her arm before she falls (reflex save 16).]

[ Considering who she normally hung around back home, someone not being dressed appropriately doesn't actually phase her anymore. Thanks Pritkin.

It's a big shocker to not have face meet floor, more surprised than anything when she looks up at him. ]

Oh yeah, don't worry about it. I'm just amazed I made it through the actual ceremony without doing that. [ She gives a soft huff brushing a stray piece of blonde hair out of her eyes before giving him a smile. ] Sorry, I'm still not really sure how all of this works. I'm Cassie, by the way. Thanks for the save.

[ On the upside, the food was good and the company was nice. No complaints from her. ]

How long have you been with them? I mean, you seem pretty chill about this whole thing. [ Given his wardrobe. ]

[ towering over cassie, even with her heels on, amy pond looks cute and friendly (disguise 27) and, yeah, really tall with her own heels, as she approaches with a sweet smile. ]

You're one of the new ones, yeah? Just squired in? [ her scottish voice might actually be familiar since she was the one shouting during the ceremony. ]

[ Part of being short means being used to being towered over. So, it doesn't even phase her, offering a smile in return. The voice definitely clicks, recognition flashing across her face. ]

That's me, Cassie. [ And cue a little gesture to herself. ] Hi. I-- did you yell at that Rory guy when he went down? [ Because oh boy was she grateful she hadn't been included in that particular mini-crash. ] Is that common?

Me yellin' at Rory or people falling during that walk? 'cause I yell at Rory all the time, yeah, but I've only been to a couple squiring ceremonies and I don't remember loads of people falling.

[ a beat. ] He falls without the armor, too.

I tend to trip over air, so I can't really judge. Although if I had biffed it and my friend were here, he might've given your yelling abilities a run for their money. [ Because Pritkin was a jerk. End of story. ]

I'm guessing you know him from home, then? Or is he just someone you met once you got here? Or are you a native and I'm just making an ass of myself? [ Slow clap for Cassie. ]

[at some point in the night, Gold invades the party- he's stopped attending these little shindigs altogether since he came back, choosing to keep to himself while he sorts out his myriad of life problems, but since Wynn has deemed to bring him back to proper knight society by giving him a squire, he might as well meet the girl. and better now than wait until something else unfortunate happens.

So here's this guy with a cane, dressed to the nines, looking like he'd rather be anywhere else, but at the same time fairly determined.] Ms. Cassandra Palmer?

[ Well, if Cassie was good for something, it was being a trouble magnet and awkward in some social situations... And right now the latter isn't going to disappoint. She's quick to smile when she hears her name, meeting his gaze with a nod. ] And you must be Mr... Sir - uh. [ Okay, take 2. ] Mr. Gold?

[ Nailed it. ]

Either will do. [at least he's amused by her awkwardness. it's almost refreshing, considering his last squires.] I thought I'd catch you before the party... escalates. From experience, rarely does anyone want to talk much the day after their ceremony.

Ok, cool. [ She gives a little nod at that, all too familiar with the wonders of hangovers - granted hers tended to be thanks to vamps or magic. She tried to keep booze out of the mix... Usually. ] Yeah, my goal is to feel fine tomorrow. Drunk party girl isn't really a good look on me.

Holy shit- those shoes are gorgeous. [Jade might be staring. Hell, she's practically drooling.]

If you're a 7, I'm totally raiding your closet before the next party.

Oh. [ And she's just gonna look down before looking back up because gorgeous shoes comes with a shoe obsession. Sometimes it's hard to remember which gorgeous pair she'd gone with considering how overwhelming... well, everything was right now. ] Yeah, they're pretty great.

And I am, so sure. Shoes are the one indulgence I allow myself.

If you can only have one? That's the one to go with. And if every party is as swanky as this? You'll get a lot of excuses to show them off.

[she sounds practically giddy. Girl loves shoes.]

[Dipper is much more of a chill and observe sort of guy himself, so while Mabel's tearing up the dance floor he's hanging out with a plate of mini quiches and trying not to look too bored or like he wishes he'd brought a book. Which he does. Very much so. The only thing that's keeping him from heading out early is the fact that his sister's here and he doesn't want to leave her alone. They have each others' backs. Always. Sure, nothing's probably going to happen at this party, but they're both a lot more comfortable with each other in sight.

Eventually, boredom overcomes broodiness and he decides that just maybe he should try actually talking to someone, and the people who aren't dancing seem like the safest bet. He takes a deep breath and moves over to one of the other people who got squired with him. He musters up a smile that looks a little uncomfortable (charisma 7) and nods at her.]

I'm glad the whole armor thing is just for ceremonies. That stuff hasn't been practical since the middle ages. I mean, besides at renfaires, I guess.

[ The amount of times Cassie's thought 'nothing should happen', shit seems to hit the fan. One of the reasons she'd opted for avoiding the dance floor, besides the fact that she wasn't big on dancing. At least, not on her own.

She meets his somewhat uncomfortable smile with one that's warm and surprisingly relaxed (char 15), considering what's going on. She remembers him, mostly for his sword comment, popping a cocktail shrimp into her mouth as she nods. ]

Yeah, also glad we don't have to use swords. I suck with those... Like really badly. [ Because no matter how hard Pritkin and Eugenie had tried, she was still barely able succeed at not dying. ]

I did pretty good at boffering that one time. [...this is probably one of those excessively nerdy things Mabel wanted him to keep out of his first impressions. Whoops. On the other hand, if she knows what boffering is, she's too nerdy to judge him.]

But, uh, yeah. Swords are not a good thing to fight with if you suck at them. Kinda dangerous.

[It's easy for Ashe to recognize her fellow wallflowers, and having been here for a handful of months herself now, it's become far easier for her to approach with confidence, no longer feeling quite as out-of-place here as she had upon her arrival. The elven woman smiles warmly as she approaches Cassie with interest, a drink in her right hand.]

Sir Cassandra Palmer, isn't it? Welcome to the Knights. Ashelia Lavellan-- I'm a squire, like you.

That's me. [ Even if it's still weird being called Sir. But, it's fine. She'll get used to it - she understands the reasons behind it even if it's still a little wonky to hear. ] Nice to meet a fellow squire. Have you been doing this long? Any tips or tricks for a newbie?

[ Might as well ask while things are still a little quiet on the actually doing things front. ]

A few months now, though it's gone by quickly.

[Faster, in some ways, than time back home ever had, and yet slow for the lack of peril she'd been faced with here. It was quite a chance of pace from what she was used to, though one might argue it was for the better.]

Well, first and foremost, don't be afraid to ask questions. I've had to ask countless, and most of the other Knights have been happy to answer them. My world is quite different from this one-- it's been an adjustment.

[ looking almost annoyingly good (disguise 28), the white-haired dark elf leaning against the counter with his own drink doesn't try very hard to suppress his smirk when she almost trips. but the amusement in his eyes looks good-natured, at least. ] Mind the gap.

[ She can’t even be mad. Not at his words and certainly not at his appearance because ok, yeah he was definitely good looking. Seemed to be a theme around here, from what she noticed. She brushes a blonde curl out of her face as she steadies herself. ]
