[ It's not until Buffy's a bit more settled in and Jack's returned from some business that he's able to hold true to his promise to set up a meeting for her with the head of the Hellsing family. So one foggy London January morning, he drives her out to the Hellsing manor. The estate is intimidating on its own, though obviously not to the scale of the Knight's castle. It does, however, make up for it in the menacing aura that seems to hang about the entire exterior of the manor.

Jack pulls the car up to the front gate, and announces himself to the guard stationed there. After the soldier confirms it over headset, he waves them through, and the gates clatter open. ]

Kat said there were rumors they had a vampire working for them. That can't be true, can it? [ never mind that they have spike. he's different. ]

[dragonsclaw]

Not just a vampire. There are rumors that claim he's the most powerful of their kind.

But working for may be the wrong way to describe it. He's bound to service of the Hellsing family by powerful magics.

[slay]

Please. I can take Spike, how tough can this guy be? They wanna enslave a big nasty to fight for them, maybe they should have reached higher up the food chain.

[dragonsclaw]

For all his prowess, Spike has, from what reports I've heard, manifested few of what might be deemed 'vampiric powers' beyond the usual strength and speed.

Alucard is a whole different classification.

[slay]

Like what, does he turn into a bat or something? Get in your head?

[dragonsclaw]

All of the above... and much more. Hellsing has ... enhanced his natural abilities as well, through magical means, and scientific, perhaps. They keep their work a rather well guarded secret, but it's been said that he cannot be killed.

[slay]

I'd be really interested to find out why the hell a company that ruthlessly hunts Shadowkind would want to work so damn hard to make a vampire unkillable. Sounds like a dangerous thing to make. What happens when there's no more Hellsings?

[dragonsclaw]

I imagine that's a question it would be ill-advised to put to them: but one which many of us have considered. [ parking ze car ]

[slay]

Gee, that's promising. Sure hope Sir Integra has kids. [ she opens the door and climbs out of the car as jack puts it in park. she reaches one hand up to shade her eyes and stares up at the looming castle. ] Oh boy.

[dragonsclaw]

I think she has some time before she has to worry about that. [ he glances at her, and then follows her gaze to the building, and walks to her side, offering his arm ]

[slay]

[ she glances up at him, realizing that if he's offering moral support this is ... probably gonna be more intimidating than she already is intimidated by it. oof. she takes the offered arm and heads to the front door with him. ]

[ as they reach the door, you can reprise that lovely sound cue above as jack pushes the ringer, and they stand there side by side, dwarfed by the incredibly large front door of the place.

after a moment, in which neither speaks, the doors are drawn open, and a tall, thin older figure is revealed, dressed impeccably in a waistcoat, white gloves, very much the picture perfect butler, complete with monocle. his hair is tied back into a long black ponytail and he offers a polite bow of the head to them both, with a pleasant little smile... or at least one that should be pleasant. there's something vaguely unsettling about it, to be honest, although it's difficult to place what it is. ]

Ah - Sir Chessing. You were expected. Do come in. [ he moves aside, granting them leave to enter into the large lobby area. the architecture here seems done in threatening stone work, and an intimidating staircase extends up to a balcony that looks made for the sole purpose of allowing the residents to glower down at newcomers. for the moment, however, it is thankfully void of glowerers. ]

Sir Integra awaits you.

No Sir Summers on the guest list? Oh well. [ buffy leans forward, glancing inside, and then wanders in all the same. she doesn't seem entirely put-off by it. probably better that jack didn't explain the whole problem at hand if they weren't especially trustworthy. she glances up as she enters the lobby, squinting at the enormity of it all. ]

[familyretainer]

[ walter closes the door behind them, offering buffy a nod as well ] Pardon me, Sir Summers. Sir Integra merely informed me that the Dragon's Claw of the Knights of the Silver Dragon would be bringing a 'guest'.

My name is Walter Dornez, retainer to the Hellsing family. [ he walks towards the hallway to the left and gestures for them to accompany him ] If you would be so kind as to follow me?

[slay]

[ she gives a broad 'nice to meet you' smile and starts following after him. she continues to scrutinize the mansion as they move. ]

You know, I never really got that. "If you'd be so kind." If you're the one showing us to where we're supposed to be going, doesn't that make you the kind one?

[familyretainer]

And yet I am the one requesting you to follow. I imagine impolite society may reserve the right to refuse.

[slay]

Touché.

[ long walk, huh. at least he's being chatty. she continues to scope out the mansion, making passing commentary and trying to keep things light. they're not going to stay light for long, and she'd like to put that off as long as possible. it's nervousness making her babble. ]

[masterofmonster]

[ not for long at all, really. walter comes to a halt in front of a set of double doors and gestures for them to enter, announcing them as they walk into the black and white tiled room.

"Sir Jack Chessing and Sir Buffy Summers of the Knights of the Silver Dragon."

the room stretches out long in front of them, leaving an intimidating amount of space to cross to reach the large desk that must belong to the leader of the hellsing organization. she stands with her back to them, facing one of the large windows. for a moment, she almost appears to be a man: her height, bearing, and the suit she wears with its padded shoulders creates a very masculine presence. but the tumble of blonde hair that falls to her waist seems to dismiss that idea instantly.

she speaks, her voice authoritative and commanding: ] Come in.

[slay]

[ friendly. buffy gives a semi-panicked look to jack, then steps inside it's a big room so stepping inside is really more of ... walking what might as well be a football field with how long it feels. ]

Uh - Are you. ... Sir Hellsing, right?

[masterofmonster]

[ jack gives her an encouraging nod to step forward, and integra turns to face her slowly, a cigar held in one hand. a pair of spectacles are perched on her nose and she regards buffy with an even icy blue gaze from behind them. she's surprisingly young in appearance, perhaps barely older than buffy herself - certainly no more than a few years. ] I am.

[ she doesn't budge, merely stands there waiting for buffy to approach like a civil person to a reasonable distance. ] And you are the Knight who sees demons?

[slay]

I - Yeah. Yes. That's me. I-I didn't really realize at first that they ... But, I do. Which is weird, I guess. This man - [ she starts to talk about mr. gray as she stops in front of the desk, reasonably close to integra now, and she looks over at jack, searching for confirmation that she should mention that part. ]

[masterofmonster]

[ jack nods and integra's eyes narrow as if she has a feeling what's coming next. it feels a great deal as if she's ordering buffy to continue WITH JUST HER EYES. ]

[slay]

[ at jack's encouragement, buffy looks back at sir hellsing and continues. ] I met a man in New Orleans. He found me in an alley, called himself "Mr. Gray." He knew all about me, about - about these nightmares I have, about vampires. He called me a 'demon slayer.'

[masterofmonster]

This man: did he offer to recruit you, train you in the use of these powers of yours?

[slay]

I - No. Not really. He just seemed like he knew everything about them, but I - I hadn't told anybody. I mean, I don't even know what they are. [ she fidgets. ] That's what I thought it was, at first. Him trying to ... recruit me, or whatever. But he didn't want anything from me. Just wanted me to know about my "potential."
