The paths to the Knighthood are as unique as the individuals who comprise its widespread organization. But all of their tales have one aspect in common: their first trip to the castle that serves as the primary headquarters for their operations occurs blindfolded, generally with the member who had recommended them for service as their escort.

Only when the car had pulled up to the front steps of the opulent building are they unmasked and allowed to follow inside.

Within the wide front hall is what looks like a receptionist desk to the left, manned by any one of a number of usually young Knights, who make the newly arrived sign into an ancient looking tome with hundreds of yellowed pages, along with today's date, usually accompanied by a look of curiosity from whoever's working the desk. Either way, they ask no questions.

They are then directed down the main ground floor hallway, which seems to stretch on for a great distance, passing tapestries of a mostly medieval flavor, suits of armor and weaponry lining the walls, and archways that open into opulent ballrooms, extra wings with numerous doors, poshly decorated parlors and more.

It's in front of an incredibly large painting that they come to a stop, drawing some kind of keycard out of their wallet or pockets and using it to open a small glass case containing a fire extinguisher to the right of the artwork. They pull the extinguisher upwards like a lever, making it clear it's just for show, and a loud mechanism creaks behind the wall, as the entire mural swings aside slowly to unveil a torch lit hallway. Escorts leave their charges to go on from here alone, usually with a nod or word of encouragement.

There's something solemn about the long stone corridor, made only more so by the fact that almost every inch of the walls on either side is covered in paintings, tapestries, rugs, artifacts, carvings, etc. that depict various images from the Knights' history, of those in armor battling against all manner of twisted and dangerous creatures. There's another constantly reoccurring image as well - of a gigantic silver dragon battling against armies of dark elves, or just one dark elf in particular, who is often depicted with a certain circular symbol somewhere on his wicked looking armor.

More prominent than this collection of madly arranged images is the incredibly large lettering inscribed over the large doors at the end of the hallway.

Thou Shalt Defend the Knighthood.
Thou Shalt respect all Weaknesses, and Shalt constitute thyself the Defender of them.
Thou Shalt not recoil before thine Enemy.
Thou Shalt make War against Injustice, without Cessation and without Mercy.
Thou Shalt never lie, and shall remain Faithful to thy pledged Word.
Thou Shalt be Generous, and listen to and Respect All.
Thou Shalt be Everywhere and Always the Champion of the Right and the Good against Injustice and Evil.

The room that stretches out beyond those doors, however, is enough to wrench the eyes off the inscription. It houses an incredibly large, thick, wooden table constructed in the round, surrounded by at least twenty five chairs. Rising from the center from the table is a massive statue that appears to be made of glass or crystal, depicting a dragon in flight. Suspended in the middle of the statue is a proud looking sword, that looks as if it's merely hovering there because of the statue's transparent nature. The statue rises up towards the vaulted ceilings as if it means to break free and soar out of the room, creating a very otherworldly aspect to the setting.

It may take a moment for those who enter to realize they are not fully alone, as Wynn waits on the exact opposite side of the table, facing a pair of incredibly tall sealed doors, that appear to be gilded in gold leaf. His hands are locked behind him, laced white cuffs falling over them, one ring visible on his left hand. His height is intimidating, at a full six foot seven, and his posture rigid and impeccable. He wears an old-fashioned tailored coat worked with silver and dark blues, over a silver and white doublet, framed with gleaming buttons that have tiny dragons worked onto them in brushed silver. He says nothing - doesn't even so much as turn, as if he doesn't even register that anyone has arrived.

Once inside, the doors fall shut with a ponderous thud, of what seems to be their own accord.

Detective Beckett told me I could speak freely here?

[Despite the arcane being out in the open here, it had still been nice to have that bit of reassurance.]

Demons and monsters are common knowledge here, or so I've been lead to believe. They exist where I come from, too, but most people turn a blind eye. I've been tasked not to. It doesn't make me an expert, but I take my job seriously.

[Regardless of the fact that nobody's paying her for it.]

[Isn't that the million dollar question?]

The Book of Revelations?

[She winces. Crazy as it sounds, she's not sure 'God' or 'George Washington' or 'Benjamin Franklin' is going to sound any better. What is her life, even.]

[She's long since gotten used to picking up on skepticism, but she's glad that his interest appears to be genuine. Makes things easier. Means that Kate hadn't been offering her false advertising.

She exhales, squaring her shoulders and giving him an even look as she explains.]

The Book of Revelations tells of two Witnesses, says that they'll be thrown together to bear witness to the portents of the end of days and fight against the apocalypse. There's said to be seven years' worth of trials. I don't know how true that is.

[Things had changed, even well before her passing through the Veil.]

Both my partner and I-- we were both touched by the demon trying to bring forth the apocalypse, had our lives changed by him in some way. It brought us together. The more time goes on, the more we saw that this war we've found ourselves in the middle of is much bigger than we imagined. It's spanned centuries, continents-- but everything that's happened since I found out what I was meant to do has happened for a reason. I have to figure that's why I'm here, at least for now.

[She nods firmly, confirming.]

Some of them can't be seen unless they want to be. Others-- if people do see them, they either talk themselves out of believing it, or other people think they're crazy.

[She has some experience with the latter.]

Most keep themselves hidden. Only seen by those they reveal themselves to, or those who have some kind of connection to the supernatural. Sensitive to magic, or maybe something else.

[She couldn't have said what it was that made her and her sister qualify, but now that she knows they have witch ancestry, things make a little more sense.]

[She nods again, watching him carefully, letting out a slow exhale of breath.]

I'd say if that's the case, then I think I'm exactly where I ought to be right now.

[Where better than among people with similar experiences? Who've seen the things she'd seen? She'd rather be with her partner, but at the moment, that's not an option.

She'll adjust as needed.]

I didn't used to.

[But there's only so much a person can see, can experience without having to challenge the way they look at the world.]

Now it doesn't seem like I have much choice. I believe in a lot of things I never thought possible before. Fate's certainly one of them.

The only choice it takes away is the choice to continue to refuse to believe.

[At least that's how she feels. The rest of it, he's right about. She could have turned her back on all of it if she'd really wanted to-- but she doesn't have that in her. Denial is something she's long since given up.]

I figure this is just another of those possibilities.

Don't have much else to focus on at the moment.

[It doesn't have to be all-consuming, but you can bet she'll find a way to make sure it is-- keeping busy will keep her calm, give her purpose, keep her from worrying so much about what she's left behind so long as she's moving forward in something.]

I'm guessing that along with having the opportunity to learn about the Knighthood from the inside, squires are under close observation?

[Like newbie cops.]

Seems fair enough. More or less what we do with rookies back home.

[She exhales slowly, raising both eyebrows at him in question.]

Does that mean I'm in-- conditionally?

I think the work you do here is too close to what I'm meant to do back home for it to be just a coincidence.

[Which is to say yes, she thinks this is where she should be. She smile carefully, holding a hand out to him. He's a tall and imposing figure, and a much younger Abigail Mills might have been hesitant to reach out at all-- but she wasn't afraid of much anymore. Came with the job.]

Do we shake on it?
