The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

Are you away from the castle often?

All too often, I'm afraid. Wynn doesn't like his Dragon's Claws to sit on their laurels too long.

Well, there's a reason why they pay you the big bucks.

[There's a beat.]

Figuratively speaking, at any rate.

Oh, quite literally as well.

[She smiles a bit at that as she nods.]

I didn't want to assume.

[ he chuckles. ] The trick is that we hardly have the time or inclination to spend it.

I guess then it's just the matter of making sure you can spend it on the right things. Better on spending it on everything and none of it making you happy.

Possessions have rarely made anyone happy, my dear. That particular trap has never held much appeal to me.

Oh, I don't disagree. Too many people think excess is the answer, when really it just shows how unhappy they are.

[bancroft]

And what is it that makes you happy, I wonder.

[Kate takes a breath as she shrugs.]

I've always tended to prefer the little things. A good book. Good conversation.

Then you're a fortunate woman indeed.

I like to think so. Excess has never really made sense to me.

And yet here you are, living in an elaborate, luxurious castle. [ he tosses her a wink ] Who knew.

[She laughs a bit at that.]

I'm here for the work. Though I will admit that there's a small part of me who thinks the whole castle thing is pretty cool too.

I don't think anyone is quite immune to the glamour of it all.

Really? Even after years of being here?

Even after. Sometimes it's hard to notice until we step outside and see how the other half lives.
