The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[ she's quiet for a long moment, considering his words and trying desperately not to get her hopes up. spoiler: it doesn't work. between his words and the thrumming in her ears, her head is a mess.

she's weighing both what to say and what to do next, finally coming to some sort of resolution internally, though it offers her little comfort ] You know I would wait for him a thousand years, and it would still be worth every second. [ she sighs heavily, turning back to face him ] But right now, I'm with someone else, and I really shouldn't even be considering-- It's not very fair to Val'drin.

No. [ his words are even but carry a weight of their own as he looks at her levelly. ] It's not.

I told him that. I told him everything. [ and she's obviously frustrated with how little that seemed to deter him, all the while relieved and grateful that he's still around. it's such a horribly confusing situation for her 8( ] He said it was a small price to pay to be with me.

[ a humorless snort as he leans over the balcony on both forearms ] Now that sounds healthy.

[ yeah, well... ] It wears on us mere mortals, Thomas -- being alone.

It's not just about companionship, it's about letting someone truly know you. That's not so easy for some of us.

Just think about what I've said, at least. I can't force you to do anything else, but I don't want to see any of you suffer over this again.

I doubt I'll be able to ignore my heart forever, and no matter how much I do love Val'drin, we're both constantly trying to convince the other that this is all enough. I suppose he'll grow tired of that soon... like he did before. [ she mumbles the last bit into her her raised glass before downing the rest of it. she sets the glass on the railing next to him before turning to look up at him expectantly like HUG??? ]

If that's truly what you believe about the man, then you certainly deserve better.

[ she doesn't look very convinced that she does deserve better ] I know how he feels. If it were me, I'd at least want a chance to try to prove them wrong. I owe him at least that much. [ w o w this is all kinds of rational >__> ]

No, no, you're right. I suppose that makes is sound horrible ... And it's not all unenjoyable. [ she smirks a bit after that weak attempt to lighten the mood ]

Well, I should certainly hope not. [ he smirks, accepting the levity. ] No offense meant to Val'drin, by any of this. He's a decent enough chap - when he wants to be.

[ you mean like he's the most selfish bastard ninety-nine percent of the time? but-- ] He's been nothing but wonderful to me. [ she casts her eyes down, clearly thinking "this time around" ] So you can imagine why it'd be so difficult for me to relinquish that level of... comfort.

[ but whatever he has to say in response to that is cut off abruptly part way through as she seems to suddenly remember something very important. she reaches forward, cracking a smile as she smacks him on the chest ] Did you know Luthir has a girlfriend?

He's en-engaged. [ with the most bittersweet expression, she casts her gaze away from him, looking thoughtful ] I clearly didn't know that, no.

That's wonderful, really.

It was meant to be happy tidings.

Of course it is. [ she's happy for him, really. she's just incredibly jealous as well. but she pushes it down to bring out her smile again. ] I wonder why he didn't tell me.

Well, he didn't tell me either, per se.

[ she smirks ] And what exactly does that mean?

I made a remark about it, and it was all in what he didn't say.

Isn't it always. [ she chuckles, shaking her head ] I'd remark on how they seem to be moving awful fast, but I doubt I'm a good judge of appropriate relationship progression.

Besides, they say when you know, you know. [ and unfortunately, she really does believe that ]

That they do, and rightly so. I've never seen much sense in waiting around myself.

I know, I get it. [ she gives him a small smile ] I'll try. I promise.

[ he simply nods, and with a sly smile, nods back inside. ] Shall we?

Only if this means I get at least one dance. [ she grins but her face quickly softens, and she reaches a hand out to rest on his upper arm ] Thank you, for... pointing out the obvious, I guess. It's nice to have someone to talk to.
