The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

Well, I would count this as a necessity.

You could assist me in other ways, however. I'm embarrassed to admit, but... I don't think I even remember where the Round Table room is.

Well. I can see someone trained you to be a proper lady. [ there's a mocking edge to alanna's voice, because she's no interest in proper ladyship when it means humoring others. she links an arm through myri's all the same. ] I'll see that I help you find it, and thank you for finding me a task.

If a task pleases you so much, I'm certain I can think of many more like this. It's been a very long time.

Can you, now? Well, if you're quite through with the party for the evening, perhaps we could get started on the list.

[witchwoman]

I think I've had all the uncomfortable mingling I can stomach for one evening.

[trebond]

I'm certainly glad to hear that. [ alanna has a threshold with parties, and once she's done, it steeply becomes unpleasant to exist near them. so she'll just slink out the door with myri in tow now. ]

[witchwoman]

I take it you've been to your share of them.

[trebond]

Loads. In my world, the King loved to host ambassadors and throw parties. Knights were expected to do diplomacy at them. We were charged with dancing with their ladies, and telling them how beautiful they looked, and listening to them chatter about - well. Whatever they desired.

[ she releases myri and spins as they enter the hall, embracing the fresh air that's not crowded with body heat. ]

As a result, I'm afraid I've lost what love I had of smalltalk.

[witchwoman]

Dancing with their ladies? But you're--

[trebond]

Oh!

[ she lets out a full laugh that booms in her chest. she raises a hand to dismiss it. ]

They had no idea at the time, of course. I had no interest in learning to be a lady, but there was no room for women in the knighthood. I improvised.

[witchwoman]

You pretended to be a man. [Oh ho ho~] No one had any idea you weren't what you seemed?

[trebond]

A boy - much simpler, I've found. [ yeah it wouldn't have been an easy ruse to keep up if people had been like yo where's your beard. ] I was only ten when I entered, and sixteen when I became a full knight. My deception was revealed to the court shortly after.

Before that, there were a few who knew - out of necessity, more than anything. There was a lovely woman in the city, eased my panic at waking up bleeding in the middle of the night. [ she chortled at the memory, then fondly reflected on the others. jonathan had known when they were still so young, after the black city. ] My Prince, Jon. He caught on quick. And we had to do the rights for the Ordeal in the bath, so I'd had to tell Gary just before I earned the shield.

[witchwoman]

[Myri watches her as she relates the story, delight in her eyes as she gets swept up in the tale.] How adventurous! It must have been somewhat... liberating, to not have anyone think they knew what you could or could not accomplish based on what was or was not between your legs. [She chuckles warmly.] And it must have been very satisfying to reveal, after everything.

[trebond]

[ she'd always planned to reveal herself after gaining her shield - but it hadn't gone precisely as she'd planned. duke roger had seen to that. for some reason, her mind sticks on jon's uncle, but she can't sort out quite why. like he's the answer to some burning question. she dismisses it finally. true, it would be better to have revealed herself on her own terms, but it had happened, and she'd been permitted to keep her shield all the same: a better outcome than many would have guessed. ]

I suppose it was. I'd proven to myself that I'd been able to do it as much as I'd proven it to the Realm.

[witchwoman]

Sometimes that's more than enough of a reward.

[trebond]

True enough. Though, I'd never be the sort to turn down a slew of scandalized nobles on top of it.

[witchwoman]

I can't say I blame you.

Now... which way do we turn to reach the Round Table?

i looked up the map and this was less of a journey than anticipated lemme tell u

Not too terribly far to reach, honestly.

[ alanna hangs a left and stops suddenly when she reaches an elaborate painting on their right. ] It's here. [ she gestures up at the painting - not quite a door, but a passage all the same. ] I'm certain the idea was to keep it centrally located. The ballroom happens to be, as well.

[witchwoman]

Oh yes. [She looks a little sheepish, as her eyes trace over the big painting.] It's all familiar now.

Except that, er...

How do we...?

[trebond]

Oh, you really are out of practice, aren't you?

[ she looks amused rather than mocking, at least, and pulls out her id card from god knows where she was keeping it and uses it to get them access. ]

This world has its own sort of magic. [ like microwaves and card-keys. ] These keys act as identification among knights, but also grant certain privileges. They're issued upon arrival - you have yours, I trust? [ she turns to myri as the painting opens to reveal the room. this is some harry potter shit. ]

[witchwoman]

Not on me, but among my things, yes. Like the 'keys' we used in hotels. [She glances through as the painting moves aside, peering down the long hallway.]

[trebond]

Precisely. I'd recommend you keep it close to your phone - Wynn finds reasonable hours to hold briefings, but they're all you'll need if he decides to summon you for one.

[witchwoman]

Do you know why he keeps this room secret?

[trebond]

Not in the slightest. The whole castle's location is meant to be a secret as I understand it; what need would he have of a panic room?

[witchwoman]

Perhaps he's hiding something back here.
