[ Having spent months scrying on areas of the Island scouted out by Sir Bancroft and Sir Chessing, Hasmed is able to send a few groups to the Island via greater teleport spells, with a fairly small margin for error, as to where they're going to land. The Shadowkind prison teams land flawlessly, and the very big group appears in a clearing in the middle of the woods, abruptly finding themselves surrounded by trees and mostly darkness. The moon is in its last quarter, and with the trees so thick above them, there are only patches of light that filter down here and there. Those with darkvision or lowlight vision can see perfectly, but anyone with normal vision may find themselves squinting to see much of anything.

The teleport spell only works if the entire group is physically connected, so when they arrive, Wolverine yanks his hand off Nathan's shoulder, and gives Drax a Look like stop touching me if you value your hand. Eric runs his Drakenet app to determine their location, then announces: "Dead on." In other words, no spell mishap sending them miles off target. Beside them all, Lan's mount, Daisy, stamps her feet slightly, obviously unnerved by the magic. He whispers "Whoa, there" and reins her in, causing her to settle. ]

[ the ember guard looks down at drax's ineffective fist smashing into its leg, as nathan's molotov cocktail explodes away from everyone, in a puddle of magma. it raises a fist again, bringing it down towards the destroyer's head--

and stops, just a foot short. the fist hovers there for a moment, and then the creature slowly straightens up again.

and just stands there. ]

[That... seems to be a good thing. She's still not gonna move too far away.]

So did the raccoon just get a brand new toy?

[ well. shit damn. ] You can control this thing?

[Rocket doesn't even seem to care about his victory or the fact that he was just called a raccoon again. Being only able to run at half speed makes getting to Drax difficult, but he makes it, and that's pretty much all he can do right now. The danger has passed though, so the only worry on his face is for his friend..

Worry that promptly turns to anger.]

You idiot! Are you tryin' to give me a heart attack?!

Well, that was anticlimactic.

[his face scrunches up in a frown. HE MEANS HIS COCKTAIL. not ... drax almost getting pummeled to death. he's not a sociopath. just really fucking stupid.]

[Drax is... not looking very good. He's still standing very straight and strong and looks ready to punch everything, but he also looks like... doing that might make him fall down. He picks up his knives and sheathes them in his boots again and looks at Rocket.]

No. I would probably use some sort of electric attack if I wanted to induce cardiac arrest, and besides, I would do no such thing to you. You are my friend.

[A big smile, then he turns and looks up at the big robot monster thing.]

Can you turn it against our enemies?

[Things on his mind: MORE DESTROYING. Things not on his mind: Getting healed.]

[Oh right. People were talking to him about the remote. He gives Drax an agitated look and then looks up at the ember guard.] Probably. It'll be good to have when we're ready to trash the joint. Or if they've got somethin' bigger.

[And back to Drax.] You need to get back to the courtyard and get healed up. If you die in here, I'm gonna be pissed.

[spinerip]

[Drax scoffs.]

Retreat? [He tries to stride confidently to show how fine he is and... stumbles.] ...perhaps a temporary necessity. I dislike leaving you undefended, though.

[THE OTHER KNIGHTS HERE DON'T COUNT....]

Undefended?! [EXCUSE YOU. JUST BECAUSE HE GOT CAUGHT AND TORTURED IN THIS PLACE ONCE DOES NOT MEAN IT IS GOING TO BE AN EVERY DAY THING.]

Who just saved whose ass from gettin' smashed to death?

[Yeah, they have... forgotten the rest of you are even there. It's Marvel's new movie "Marvel Characters Don't Care If You're In The Room: Part 2."]

[Oh there are other people here. Rocket glances over at the other three to acknowledge that he sees them there and then turns back to Drax.] I'll be fine. You won't be if you stick around here. Go on.

[He manages to sound annoyed and slightly dejected. Maybe he was counting on having Drax around when he heads into the breach, but having him alive is better than having the moral support.

Once he's done shooing Drax, he turns to the Ember Guard.] And as for you, you just wait right here until I come back.

[Let's just take a moment to appreciate this under three foot tall raccoon giving orders to a fucking magma monster. Let's all just... fucking appreciate this.]

You sure that thing's gonna stick? [ logan sounds skeptical, but w/e. he would love a cigar rn tbh ]

I got no clue. [#honesty] But we can get past it now, so hell with it.

[spinerip]

[Drax scowls and finally turns to go.]

Fine. But only because it will get you to stop nagging. I'll return as soon as my wounds are healed.

[THE DESTROYER NEEDS NO MEDICAL ATTENTION. But he's secretly glad because he's actually in a lot of pain and it's nice to have the excuse not to be stupid levels of tough.

Let's see what's behind door number three. [ logan just goes straight for the double doors that had closed after the ember guard upon its arrival, and when they don't open at first push, he decides to make his own door. two swipes of his claws later, he kicks in the ruined section of wall and makes a passage into the hallway beyond. ]

[Rocket pockets the remote again in one of his little pouches and readies his machine gun. Aw yeah. And this time when Rocket looks at Logan's claws, he's not eyeing them because they're shiny... he has other reasons. Everything's getting #tooreal for him right now. He's hyperaware of things.

And he's not even being subtle about his staring either. Enjoy that.]

[nathan crit failed a wis check to notice what rocket was up to, so he just walks beside logan and blathers] He probably has to shit. Don't raccoons shit every five minutes? I read that somewhere.

[Rocket looks away abruptly, like he's the most tsundere thing ever. Also just ignoring you, Nathan. Because if he doesn't, he's going to probably do something no one will appreciate except maybe Sam Winchester.]

Them claws of yours. I was just thinkin' nobody's born with that much metal inside 'em.

[Faith is also pretty sure raccoons aren't just born... talking, but she's not gonna go with the obvious thing, because she's curious about the claws, too.

Also, she's gonna glance back over her shoulder... at the ember guard they're just leaving there??]

Not that it's like leaving the keys in the ignition, but are we good to leave that behind? No one else has a remote like that one that'll just start it up again? [Because - ha ha - no one wants to go through sudden lava at their feet while they go exploring.]

[ logan keeps staring at rocket for an extended moment, mouth set in a grimace, but faith gives him the perfect segueway to just... not answer. :) he looks back at the ember guard instead. ]

Then we kill the guy with the other remote.

[Yep. Moment over. Rocket rolls his shoulders uncomfortably and promptly pretends none of that just happened.] 'Sides if we find a guy with another remote, wouldja rather that thing be back here or right on top of us?
