[ The two groups tasked to deal with the denizens of the Shadow Village arrive on the bank of the river that bisects the capitol city of Andres in half.  The river slopes down from the woods and city around it, meaning that they're afforded a bit of concealment here, unless anyone stood at the top and looked down.  At this hour of the night, however, there's no one around.   Dovan grumbles a bit about 'blasted magic' as they shake off the disorienting sense of vertigo, while Koraith waits for Belle to confirm they've arrived in the right place.  She pats Gold on the arm as she pulls out her phone, and moments later, she nods to the others in confirmation.

The water laps gently nearby against the rocks, and in the distance, a bridge is visible that links the segregated Shadow village with its thatched roof houses, to the city proper, which seems lined with wealthy manor homes.  ]

[And with that David will glance back to the boss, eyebrow raised in a silent expression of "Should I?"]

We'll call ye back if there's signs of trouble. Suppose it's not a bad idea to keep watch for soldiers already in town too.

[David nods in agreement, before turning to head off after Stiles and Lydia.]

I'll let you know if I spot any trouble.

[ Ugh it's going to be way more difficult to avoid looking at weird tentacle guy now that the rest of the team's ditched, awkward. Meaning he looks to Tia for cues, instead. ]

So what are we supposed to do? Find another bar?

[ it's okay jackson the protection team are still around. except riddick, who is in a tree. ]

How many bars can this town have?

[Riddick is in a tree. He is one with the tree. the tree and he are friends. nice tree, gooood tree. this has been a tag.


no, but really he hasn't sitting idle. while the kiddos go wandering off, he was searching for a suitably large, preferably dead branch or small tree or something along those lines. once he finds what he needs, he will then proceed to drag it to the road, laying it across both lanes, then try to make it look like normal dead-fall (uhhh, survival check?? straight roll was an 18). it should be enough to stop any vehicle coming or going to or from the shadow village.]

I believe Sir Odair spoke about one such tavern in his report to Wynn. It can't be far from here. Shall we?

[ penelope will just be hanging back here with the cool kids, curiously looking around for their missing party member (wis 22; spot 15). she's not able to ascertain where exactly riddick has disappeared off to, but her attention is diverted when koraith rounds up the rest of his team to also head into the village.

she turns to dovan, her eyes making a quick sweep of the woods around the bridge. ] Perhaps we should make ourselves scarce, then, and seek out some cover?

[cuivre]

[Miles is totally here too, but he's not here to go off and talk to the locals, so jumping into all of that conversation was totally out of his expertise.

So he looks at Dovan too, ready for instructions. Hey buddy, your old squire will always have your back okay.]

Cover it is! The tree should stall any that approach long enough fer us to ambush 'em! Spread out, and everyone take a position near the bridge now. Time to watch an' wait! [ with that... he gets a nat 20 swim check armor and all to ... drop into the water and hide there, looking like a fucking rock :) ]

[ wow dovan. that is super impressive.

penelope, on the other hand, moves back into the tree line, taking refuge behind a tree wide enough to block her from view (hide 14), sword drawn. ]

[ jaina takes a look at miles, but then starts up to try to find a position amid some trees as well. she takes a few deep breaths, attempting to draw on her connection to the force, but here in the strange tension pre-battle she finds it more than difficult. stealth 12 :( so she just gives up, and takes to flattening herself behind a tree (hide 20) ]

[He catches her look, giving her a quick nod before he heads off to hide himself as well, moving to try and crouch behind part of the bridge, keeping to the shadows (hide 14).]

[instinct]

[ derek notes the others' positions and after giving it some thought (wis 5 oops) crosses the bridge entirely, and then down the bank, hiding beneath it (hide 15). he reasons that he can leap out should anyone fight their way across the bridge... eventually. ]

[ but he also spends his time there listening to the noises of the village over the soft lap of the water. (listen 27) ]

[recycling]

[ the village is eerily quiet, almost inappropriately so, as if it were holding its breath. davin walks up on the bridge itself, looking over the edge and considering the ledge there, before jumping onto the narrow stone rail, and with a nat 20, jumping down and catching the side, holding himself in place down there with a 24 str, completely invisible. ]

[ ok no but really, dovan pops his head up, just to hiss furiously: ] Wynn says they're comin' this way! Wait until they're on the bridge, lads and lasses, and then we strike! [ and then he'll... resubmerge himself ]

[instinct]

[ so it turns out cell reception underwater is actually really impressive. ]

[ derek takes a deep breath and centers himself, mentally preparing himself for — well, the first real fight since he arrived in this world. he doesn't know what to expect, anticipation thrumming through him. ]

[recycling]

[ they'll have no trouble hearing the approach. mostly because there are three heavily armored vehicles making their way slowly up the road from the city side towards the bridge. soldiers are perched on the back of them, toting large guns and grim aspects as they bump closer. ]

[righteousmight]

[ mmkay, well then penelope... will wait in hiding until they make the bridge like dovan said. not sure how close she is to the bridge at this point or how long it'll take her to get there once the fight starts, but she won't risk moving and being seen now. idk this is some quality rp right here. ]

[ironsides]

[ The trucks rumble onto the bridge slowly. It's long enough for all three of them to be on its span at the same time, and it's once they've reached this point that Dovan bursts from the water below - and yells: ] CHARGE!! [ annnnd roll for init! pplurk incoming ]

[recycling]

[ as the truck slows to a stop because of the fallen log, the green soldier is already ready for trouble, bringing his weapon around with a readied action to fire on anyone who appears. the first one to do so is davin, who leaps out with an 18 jump. the soldier fires on him (atk 22), but davin is too fast with his vampire speed, pouncing through the air and landing outside the door of the middle tank. with a 21 str check, he wrenches the fucking door off. hi.

green takes another shot at the vampire (atk 25), but it's still a miss. riddick jumps down out of his tree and makes for the back of the bridge. ]

[righteousmight]

[ penelope holds her position, keeping her cover behind the trees, and waits for some of the guards to hopefully disembark from the tank and take to the bridge before she charges forward. she does, however, cast shield of faith on herself (which grants a +2 deflection bonus to AC for five minutes) while she's biding her time. ]

[goonsquad]

[ orange leaps off the truck on the right hand side, and brings his weapon up in a sweeping arc, looking for trouble. yellow reaches over to grab his own gun, looking back to see riddick running up and scowling.

gray leaps off the back and fires ineffectively at riddick :( ]

[Miles will come out of hiding and go running towards the closest in the open guard, which would be grey.]

[ purple jumps down as well, moving towards the fallen tree with raised weapon.

jaina leaps from behind the trees, moving to the edge of the bridge and laying down some cover towards grey for miles' sake (atk 19, dmg 6).

cerulean jumps down to fire at davin (atk 24), but the vampire easily avoids the bullet. black fires down at riddick (atk 26; dmg 5). blue scrambles for his weapon and turns it on davin in a panic (atk 13), the bullet flying wildly off in his unease. pink stays stationed on the top of the tank, waiting for anyone else to appear, and red throws the door open and climbs out. ]
