[ abigail is used to nightmares, she's used to waking cora up in the middle of the night. she's used to cora's nightmares too, being woken in the middle of the night even when her own dreams are peaceful. when cora finally ventures outside, she gives her space at first, but when night starts to fall she follows to the familiar hollow she knows cora is holed up in and drops the blue and orange tent on the ground with a clatter of metal poles and spikes.

she sweeps her hair out of her face with her now free hand as jamie foxx pads over to bernie. ]

'kay, let's get this up.

[ cora has to help. it's teamwork and abigail isn't going to coddle her. putting something together will help, she believes, even if it's something as small as a two person tent that smells like dogs and will. ]

[impetere]

[Cora doesn't protest the idea, pushing the remains of her tent to the side and going to help her, moving to whatever the opposite of the tent that Abigail is working on.]

One of Will's?

[Not that that's an actual question - she can already tell.]

[theminotaur]

Yeah, there's a tear in it because it was stuck and I didn't realize until after I pulled it out. But... now you just have an extra window. [ looking on the bright side.

she works slowly and methodically, sliding the first pole through her side of things before it reaches cora, not seeming in any real rush to just pop it up. ]

[impetere]

[She shrugs, because she doesn't particularly care about the state of the tent. She's not in a particular rush either, but she's going through the paces of it. It's something to do with her hands.]

Works for me.

[theminotaur]

[ abigail is content to work in silence for a while before blurting out: ]

So Stiles said he loves me. [ that's a thing that happened. that she's wanted to talk about for a few days but refrained out of respect for cora's trauma. she still half doesn't want to bring it up, but alana was always talking about how important normalcy is for healing and this is decidedly normal. ]

[impetere]

[It takes her a moment for the words to sink in, before her eyes widen and she glances back to her.]

When?

[theminotaur]

Um, right after Koraith gave everyone their orders. [ she chews on her lip, a little anxious. ]

I haven't said it back.

[impetere]

[She nods again, processing that for a moment, before turning to face her more.]

Do you want to say it back?

[theminotaur]

I don't want to say it back if he only said it because he thought we were going to die.

[impetere]

[She nods once, before asking the next important question.]

Do you love him?

[theminotaur]

[ she pushes the next pole through the tent, thoughtful and careful, taking her time. ]

I'm not sure. [ her mouth turns down in a frown. ] I want to, but... I don't know.

[impetere]

[Cora nods a bit, because she understands that. Wanting to love someone and loving someone aren't the same thing, and if she isn't sure, she shouldn't say it.]

What makes you not sure?

[theminotaur]

The people that loved me at home, they had... the wrong way of showing it. I... what if I'm like them? [ her hand lifts to press her fingertips against her throat. ] I don't want to hurt Stiles.

[impetere]

[Her eyes watch her quietly for a moment before she inches closer, her hand coming up to cover Abigail's against her chest. She doesn't really understand scars as she's never really had any of her own, but she knows that it's a sign of damage done.]

I think if you they hurt you, intentionally, while claiming to love you then that isn't really love.

[People are supposed to protect the people they love at all costs. She knows that much.]

And I don't think you'll hurt Stiles. You already know what the wrong way is, then you can try and figure out how to do it the right way.

[theminotaur]

[ her hand twists the tiniest bit to tangle their fingers together, almost automatic in the way abigail does it without thinking. her eyes drift down, not looking at their hands, but some spot by cora's elbow instead. ]

What if I fail?

[impetere]

Do you want to hurt him?

[She doesn't ask her to judge her, because she knows that sometimes urges and desires can be there that she doesn't want to follow through on. She's felt the bloodlust and aggression of a wolf unleashed before, and she knows that actions might not always match up with desires.]

[theminotaur]

No, of course not! [ abigail looks horrified of the idea of hurting him. ]

[impetere]

Good.

[She keeps her eyes on her and her voice steady.]

It's your choice, Abigial. It's always your choice. Just like it was their's. They chose to hurt you and they were weak because of it. You're stronger than them.

[theminotaur]

[ she doesn't feel stronger, she doesn't even feel strong, but she's willing to try to trust cora on this. she nods, chewing on her lip, but instead of saying anything, she just curls her arms around cora's shoulders, tucking her forehead against her neck. ]

[impetere]

[Cora shifts and pulls her in tightly, more than willing to let her be something to sturdy to hold on to, even if she doesn't feel quite so sturdy herself. That's what best friends are for, after all.]

It'll be okay.

[theminotaur]

[ they're kind of a mess right now, the both of them for pretty much the same reason, too. family trauma, it's a hell of a thing. eventually abigail reins in the feelings and pulls back. the smile she gives cora is weak and apologetic. ]

Sorry. I saw this going the other way in my head.

[impetere]

[She smiles softly in return before shaking her head.]

It's okay. It's been a weird week.

[theminotaur]

Definitely. Okay, let's get this tent up so we can eat. Being dramatic is exhausting.

[impetere]

Agreed.

[And with that they will put up their tent and have a BFF camp out. /scene]
