[after some soul-searching (and hiding), Gold has finally decided now is the time to approach his sect leader and former mentor. it was really a very solid debate in his head about whether he goes to Hasmed or Wynn first, but Hasmed won out. The two of them have... something of an understanding and if he can win Hasmed over, then Wynn will be easy enough.

Sucking in a breath, he raps on the door to Hasmed's office with his cane.

This is gonna be fun.]

Come in. [ you just got to read the creepy description of his office so i'm not repeating it. /STILL CREEPY ]

[undealt]

[If you think God is even remotely concerned about any of that... You haven't seen his shop. WHY DO YOU HAVE SO MANY CLOCKS, GOLD.

anyway, he pushes open the door and steps inside.] I see you haven't redecorated any in the last year.

[eldritchweaver]

I'd wondered when you would see fit to come see me.

[undealt]

I'm not going to ask how in all this chaos, you even realized I was back.

[Hasmed's not stupid and people talk. It was inevitable. and he's just gonna linger around this particular shelf of sketchy shit.] I trust that given I didn't even take my familiar with me when I left, much less the good china or a prisoner in the cells, I haven't been dismissed from the knighthood yet.

[eldritchweaver]

That remained dependent on a great number of things, that would remain unanswered until your return. Now that you are here, I trust you intend to explain yourself.

[undealt]

Well, as it turns out, Belle has a husband she'd forgotten about and when I met him, he revealed he knew me, and that in some part of my past the Veil decided to remove from my memory, I'd... magicked her in love with me. When I attempted to force him to reveal whether he was lying or not, Belle revealed that what he said lined up with things Emma Swan had told her about me. So... I left.

I figured a man capable of the things I'm capable of, with no memory of who or what he is was a danger to the people around him, and that would continue to be true, until I understood precisely what I was.

[the use of "what" is... oddly telling. he's becoming uncomfortably aware of the fact that being this... Dark One person comes with some other, er... bonuses that don't feel entirely human.]

[eldritchweaver]

[ welp ]

What you are. [he takes a few steps forward, looking him over intently] And what is that, precisely?

[undealt]

Something known as the Dark One. I took it to be a title, at first, but given that spell neither of us can put a name to, I'm beginning to have my doubts.

[a beat passes.] I've also never seen a sorcerer with an immunity to fire.

[not a total immunity, mind, but enough of one that he's fairly certain he should have been dead twice over the night of the attack.] I should have died in Glastonbury when Faye and Lila came to get me and I caught the backlash of my own spell. And, again, with those clockwork mages. But I didn't, and I still can't explain that.

[eldritchweaver]

And your research? It came to nothing, in all this time?

[undealt]

Only in the sense that I'm not tainted. [gruffly] Everything I know about myself I've had to glean from secondhand sources, which to a man with no memory is a bit... difficult to rationalize sometimes.

[eldritchweaver]

Some of those sources have been speaking to Wynn, since your absence.

[undealt]

I'm aware. Why do you think I came here first?

[because at least no one has talked shit about him to Hasmed. probably.] I know about the dagger.

[eldritchweaver]

And where did you learn of it?

[undealt]

[In, like, the bitterest tone ever.] From my son.

[the son i have. the son i don't remember. that son.]

[eldritchweaver]

Neal. [ :) ] Glad to see he's been forthcoming.

And you knew nothing of this?

[undealt]

What? About a dagger that has the power to control me?

[:|] Not even remotely.

[eldritchweaver]

And what do you intend to do about it?

[undealt]

That's actually what I'm here to talk about. [in part, anyway] I agreed that it's best I'm kept... under control, for lack of a better phrase. Neal believes the honor should go to Wynn, but I'm skeptical of how useful that will be. Unless he intends to pass it down to every mission leader I serve under for the duration of my time with the Knights, and you and I both know what a disaster that would be.

[eldritchweaver]

And you have a better suggestion?

[undealt]

Someone I trust implicitly to not abuse the power, but I know will do what is necessary to ensure I don't go too far.

[There's a long pause, as if Gold's hesitant to admit the identity of this person, because of what it will look like.]

Belle.

[eldritchweaver]

And you don't believe her ... feelings might be compromised on the issue?

[undealt]

No, she's too noble for that. [such faith, gold.] She'll do the right thing, regardless of how she feels.

[eldritchweaver]

That's quite a bit to leave riding on faith.

Does Wynn share your faith in her?

[undealt]

With all due respect, Hasmed- putting that in anyone's hands requires a great deal of faith. And I'd rather it be her.

[he glances aside.] I haven't spoken to him about it just yet. There's much I need to get in order first.
