[Despite his ego being a teeny bit crushed (not as crushed as his testicles) the day he ran into Skye - he had to think that it was more than just a coincidence that had led him into the Knights line of sight. His experience in the field had put him at an advantage with staying one step ahead of those that wanted him behind bars, but the Knights had been an opportunity he couldn't really decline. At least not without seeing how they operated.

He just hadn't expected walking into a warzone would be his first introduction to the place. He's also still trying to wrap his head around Skye and what she could be doing there. He makes a new appointment with Wynn and heads to meet up with him. It seems his Knights are already ready for a little payback and Ward is good with taking on the cause of someone else for a little while.]

[wynn]

[ wynn paces across the marbled floor around the round table as ward enters. ] I apologize for the inconvenient ... events, surrounding your arrival.

[betrayed]

[Ward takes note of the pacing, he's sure that the guy has a lot of things going on at the moment.]

I highly doubt you had that planned, but it made an impression. [Ward shoves his hands into his pockets.] I got to see what your team does in a time of need and you definitely have a dedicated group of valuable assets.

[He feels like he's been brought in as a consultant with words like that, but he's always been good at ascertaining strengths and weaknesses.] I can also see that you probably will never have enough people to help. Problems like Sarandis are all over the world and you're just one organization. An impressive one, but still just one.

[wynn]

[ he stops finally to study ward for a moment. ] And what do you bring to offer this organization?

[betrayed]

Experience. [It's a brief answer, but it's true.]

I was recruited at an early age into a classified division of the government. Rose in the ranks over time. But I've parted ways with that agency. I've been on my own for a while, but I'm just one man and I know the value of having resources when you're trying to make a difference.

I've seen some of your Knights in action - the streets of London aren't exactly private and there have been more than a few reports that have filtered in of an organized group dealing with problems in a more than effective manner.

[wynn]

That is quite a leap from a few unspecified reports to contacting my people directly.

[betrayed]

[Ward offers a tight smile, nodding.]

It might seem like a leap, but I've learned that sometimes drawing the connection and taking action requires less work than sitting back and waiting for someone else to do things for you.

[wynn]

I see. [ and that's it, that's all he says to that... ]

[betrayed]

I was looking for a way to make a difference and if that meant knocking on a door that normally doesn't expect people to walk up to it, then that's the risk I was willing to take.

[wynn]

Well. Then, perhaps I can clarify some of the rumors for you.

[betrayed]

Why these people? I've seen them in action, I've seen the way they put their lives on the line for this cause. It can't just be luck that lands them here.

[wynn]

It isn't.

In my position, what would you look for?

[betrayed]

[It's the worst kind of trick question he's walked himself into. On one hand he could describe himself, make his own abilities seem the best choice, but he knows that Wynn is too smart to simply allow that sort of comparison to come to any sort of solid result.]

On an individual level, you could look for anything. Willingness to fight, openness to new ideas, ability to lead -- to follow. On a whole, I'd look for people who are willing to listen to the cause and seem to genuinely understand the risks behind it all. The ones that stay are the ones that want to be there.

The rest of it can be trained.

[wynn]

That doesn't sound like mere luck to me.

[betrayed]

[Ward smiles, nodding.] No, I suppose it doesn't.

[wynn]

And what other questions do you have for me?

[betrayed]

At the moment, I can't think of any other than if you have any questions for me.

[wynn]

I think for now, I'm satisfied.
