[Cora is sitting with her back against the doorframe on one of her return trips from the kitchen. She's supposed to be helping with the reconstruction teams but she's waiting for Kali instead, Bernie sitting in front of her. It's possible he may be a bribe of some kind, but what exactly Cora is bribing her for remains to be seen.

She just glances over when she hears Kali approaching and looks up at her with a small smile.]

Hey.

[felidity]

Hi Cora. [ she slows, almost to the point where she stops in the middle of the hall, but she takes the few more steps to cora and her door, reaching over her head to twist the handle and open the door, pushing it open so the girl and dog can go inside. ] Hi Bernard.

[impetere]

[Bernie moves first, trotting forward to nose at Kali's palm in greeting before Cora reaches forward to give his collar a tug to nudge him inside.]

I just wanted to see how you were doing.

[felidity]

I'm okay. [ she follows cora into her room, sitting down once she's inside so she's at prime bernie petting height and he can just plop his head in her lap. she doesn't seem not okay, but she also doesn't seem... herself. ] How are you?

[impetere]

[She gives a small shrug.]

I've been staying outside a lot. But other than that, I'm okay.

[felidity]

How come you're outside? Did you lose your room? [ it's like down the hall???? ] You can stay here with me and Skye? We can get you a sleeping bag.

[impetere]

What? No.

[She shakes her head a bit.]

I'm just ... feeling a little claustrophobic.

[felidity]

Oh. That makes sense. Maybe you should talk to Dr. Sweets.

[impetere]

[She shakes her head.]

It'll pass. I felt the same way when I first got here and I was fine after a couple weeks.

[Also she doesn't like shrinks - even if this one she could actually tell the whole truth to.]

[felidity]

Maybe I'll be fine too. [ there's a delicate, innocent quality to her comment, so hopeful, but so forlorn. maybe, but probably not. ]

[impetere]

[Cora looks at her, concerned for a moment, before reaching over and taking her hand with a small squeeze.]

I know you will.

[and there's complete conviction in that. Kali is her friend and she's not going to let her do this alone, like she was. If Cora can be okay, then Kali will be okay too.]

[felidity]

How do you know? [ because she doesn't. ]

[impetere]

Because eventually I was okay after the fire when I was a kid and I was on my own.

[Technically she didn't die, but everything feels worse when you're alone, and her alpha died, which sort of feels like a part of you dying.]

You're not alone.

[felidity]

[ kali nods, drawing her legs up and tucking her feet underneath her. ]

I just feel like... it might not stick.

[impetere]

[It takes her a moment, turning over the statement in her head again, but eventually it clicks (wisdom 13).]

You're worried that they'll take it back?

[felidity]

Yeah. [ she pets bernie with purpose, careful and methodical. ] What if they decide they've made a mistake?

[impetere]

[Bernie will just push up into her hand, shifting so that his head is resting in her lap.]

I don't think this is something they can take back. Maybe they sent you back for a reason?

[felidity]

Maybe. [ she shrugs, dipping her head to touch against bernie's. ] It'd be nice if they told me why.

[impetere]

I don't think you get a why. You just have to decide if you're going to dwell on it, or if you're going to take advantage of it.

[felidity]

I can't decide yet. I think I want the second one, but I'm kind of stuck dwelling.

[impetere]

[She nods once.]

It's okay to dwell for a while. But eventually you're going to have to start moving forward.

[felidity]

How? [ she draws it out into a whine and bernie licks her chin, trying to comfort her. ] I feel like I'm stuck in cement.

[impetere]

[She tips her head to the side as she stroked Bernie's back.]

I don't know. I think you have to figure that out. I can't tell you how to do it.

[felidity]

[ she makes the world's most childish noise of displeasure. ] Emotions suck, I'd rather be a robot.

[impetere]

[She smirks softly at that.]

I don't disagree there. Everything would be a lot easier without them.
