Your other brother or your this universe brother? [ She shakes her head. ] I can't believe that's a question I'm asking. [ Sam may not be able to believe it either, since she ... heard it from Alex and only mentioned that she knew to Dean. ]

[His mouth opens slightly before it closes and he chuckles softly.]

The second one. I think the chances of seeing my Dean again are pretty much slim to none.

[He tries not to look too...manpainy about that and succeeds for...the most part???]

Hey, stranger things. [ She shrugs her shoulders like come on brainwash-y Veil and world of magic and dragons. ] I'm sorry. About your — [ Her eyes start to skim the ballroom as she thinks about it, then realizes who Dean is with. ] ... Wait. Rose? I didn't know they were together.

[familybusiness]

[He didn't realize she knew her.]

For awhile now. A year, I think? They met before I came through the Veil.

[hacker]

Oh, weird. Was that weird? Not just your brother being here, but being all girlfriended up when you didn't know about it.

[familybusiness]

My brother doesn't usually do the girlfriend thing at all, so you could say that. He's also quite a few years older than mine was when I left. I'm not sure weird entirely covers it, but at least I've had a lot of that in my life.

[hacker]

Is he a lot different in other ways than you remember too? [ She starts unpacking Scrabble and setting it out on the table. ]

[familybusiness]

[He starts to help her set the game up, turning the tiles upside down and mixing them up.]

For the most part, he's the same. He's older, more withdrawn, cautious. And then sometimes there's little things here and there that make me remember he's...not the exact same Dean I grew up with.

[hacker]

I'm sorry. [ It comes out first because her heart aches for him. ] I can't imagine what that must feel like. Knowing him, but not knowing him.

[familybusiness]

Half the time I'm not even sure what it feels like.

[He's come to terms with it at least.]

Besides, it goes both ways. We're both just...figuring it out, I guess. And we're still family. [He smiles at her gratefully.] Thanks, though.

I have these other friends, [ she shuffles the tiles out onto the table and puts them all face down while she talks, ] One of them knows the other from across the Veil, but Peter, on this side, he's never met anyone like her. I guess parallel's not always parallel.

[familybusiness]

Parallel, perpendicular, and everywhere in between.

[That...probably doesn't really make sense, but w/e.]

As if it wasn't complicated enough already.

It's like we're just peeling back onion-y layers of complication one at a time.

[familybusiness]

Because life wasn't messed up enough already, right?

[Because clearly dealing with dead friends isn't horrible enough. He nods his head towards the game as they finish setting it up.]

[ she's not actually very good at scrabble, spoilers. that happens when you do more science and tech than reading after dropping out of high school, but she can at least rack up words in 15-20 point increments, so she'll do one of those now. ]

I wonder if there are any universes out there that aren't screwed up. Maybe it's like chaos theory, right? They're all bound to be as fucked up as possible.

[I rolled an intelligence check. It was pretty bad. Clearly he's distracted by...multiple things.]

Probably just different shades of crazy. The fact that they're all leaking into this one is just nightmares waiting to happen.

[ Skye's was 14 so I guess she's probably still winning. ]

Figures that we wouldn't get the good stuff. I mean, if we're going to get magical creatures bleeding over from parallel universes, why couldn't we keep it to the unicorns and phoenixes and mermaids?

[familybusiness]

[Definitely. His next roll was still only a 10.]

I'm pretty sure we get those, too. We just don't hear about them as much because they're not doing anything we need to hear about.

[hacker]

I definitely need to hear about it. Who do you think I'd talk to about finding one?

[familybusiness]

[He laughs.]

Depends on which one you want to see the most, I guess.

All of them. Obviously.
