Spike } outside the castle } ota

[Spike enjoys sunset. It's dark enough that he can be outside if he's careful without bursting into flames, but bright enough that it's almost like being outside during the day. Almost like being human.

But then, he's a hell of a lot more human than most vampires, it seems. That's... something he's still coming to grips with. He's never felt especially eager to start murdering humans left and right, of course, but he'd figured maybe it was a side effect of his headache problem. Souled vampires were unheard of. But here he was. Undead and soulful.

He's sitting on the grass in the shade, duster tucked underneath him, reading through some sort of metaphysical study of souls, and it's hard. His head hurts so much he's beginning to miss the familiar pain of just-punched-a-human. Finally, he tosses his book aside and groans, leaning forward to rub his head.]

Why don't they make movies out of bloody research books?

Because no one would fucking watch them?

[Spike glances up at her and raises an eyebrow. She.... kind of has a point.]

But then I wouldn't have to read them.

What are you researching anyway? [She doesn't feel at all bad for you but she will express mild curiosity.]

[bigbad]

Souls, if you must know. [He picks up the book again, brushing bits of grass off it.] Been a recent... curiosity of mine.

[reallywicked]

Oh...Kay. [yeah that's weird.] Any reason why?

[bigbad]

Thinking about joining a church. [Bluff 22. He's actually being sarcastic, but he's delivering it hella deadpan.]

[Oh... her sense motive of 5 is totally buying that.]

Isn't that what the clerics are for? I thought they were all the church we needed.

[bigbad]

Clerics and me don't get on very well. [Besides MYri. Myri's a special case.] Something about the whole unholy creature of darkness thing turns 'em off, I guess.

[ francesca also prefers dusk to dawn and she's currently out jogging, enjoying the fresh spring air. she rounds a corner and spots spike almost immediately, slowing as she approaches him, and offers a smile in greeting. ] That's usually why we leave most of the research to the Dragon's Horde.

Some things you've got to read for yourself. [Souls are pretty personal, okay. He gives her a smile back, but doesn't stand. He'll do the research if it kills him.]

[ she takes off her jacket as well and lays it out beside him, taking a seat as she glances at what he's reading ] Can't say that's something I've ever taken much interest in - souls, I mean. I've always been a little too frightened of where mine may be damned to. But I suppose it's now been proven I do have one.

That makes two of us. [He quirks an eyebrow and puts down the book.] Do Drow not normally have 'em or something?

[socialgraces]

Oh, no, I suppose they do. They're just generally, you know, evil.

[bigbad]

From what it sounds like, vampires are evil and unsouled so the Drow have a leg up. [Or something. He's not sure which is worse, actually.]

[socialgraces]

But not you? [ she considers him for a moment ] How's that?

[bigbad]

Bugger if I know. [He shrugs.] Might be something from before the veil. I didn't even know til Jade's mum filled me in.

[rationalizes]

Doing some research? [ gar gets plurk pinged every time someone says the word ok, so HERE SHE IS, looming. ]

[bigbad]

[Oh, Gar. Spike glances up at her and leans back on his hands.] Yeah. Why, wanna do it for me?

[He knows what you like....]

[rationalizes]

Well, I could certainly help! What's the topic?

Souls. Specifically how they relate to vampires. [He pushes the book towards her.]

[rationalizes]

You're concerned about the state of your soul? [ she slides the book closer, looking down at it with a frown ]

[bigbad]

Not exactly. Jade's mum already told me it's fine. Inside me and everything. [He gives a half-shrug.] Problem is, that's not how vampires are supposed to work.

[rationalizes]

So you want to know why you're different.

[bigbad]

Well, yeah. Besides my devilishly handsome good looks, of course.
