[Before he was a pirate, Thoster was a man who helped take care of a little family made up of too many siblings. And for as wonderful of a cook as his older sister was, he learned a thing or two about making a delicious lunch.

So he's busting in and making himself something, except... all his recipes are made to feed five (and two of those five were teenage boys) so he's going to have a lot left over. Also he's singing because it's him and that's what he does. His booming voice can be heard from... pretty far, probably, but at least it sounds pretty (perform sing - 24).]

[ leftovers, you wish. since lila is steadily plowing through and entire frozen pizza (and not the personal kind, she's eating a pizza meant to feed four), she is pretty sure she can devour whatever he's making with no trouble. except she's eating her pizza half asleep draped over the counter. nap time and lunch sort of coincided except she can't actually sleep. :( ]

[Turning to grab a wooden spoon, Thoster notices Lila at the counter. He'd known she was there and promised her some of the dish (it's nothing too complicated. chicken, a lot of spices, potatoes and whatever other vegetables he could grab.) But now she's sleeping and he's chuckling to himself. She's cute, okay. And he's a big brother at heart.]

Might have to save you some of this for later, lass. You sure you don't want to head for bed?

M'not asleep. I can't sleep. I'm hungry. [ she sounds like a sick child. no i don't wanna. ]

[bluffcheck]

[He's heard that tone a thousand times before.]

Alright, alright- well food will be ready shortly. I just don't want you passing out mid-bite.

[bittersweeter]

I can't sleep. Not insomnia, I can't. [ and she really is hungry so she's trying to eat before she curses herself to sleep. ]

How's that? [He sort of assumes she's just delirious. But he's listening while he fixes her up a plate.]

Magic. [ can you feel the disdain she has for the word? ] My super power isn't very super.

Lass, for being as smart as you are in the matters of the heart, sometimes you make so little sense.

[Ding ding! He puts a plate of food in front of her.]

Eat up.

[Brantley doesn't actually each much and is just passing by the kitchen. But when he hears the singing, he decides to visit the kitchen and say hello to the singer.]

Captain Thoster. Good day. Making lunch for yourself?

[He looks around a bit to see what kind of food he is making.]

Aye, but I'll have plenty, if you'd like to sit and share with me?

[It's a simple enough dish- chicken with potatoes and other vegetables. He learned to cook before there were any books or shows to teach you how. And he had some picky eaters for siblings, so he doesn't have a huge range.]

Yeah, I'd love that. [The food looks good so he decides to give it a taste.] I didn't know a pirate captain could cook. Didn't you have a cook or something?

Oh, on the ship, of course! Kicked him out a few times when I missed this, mind you. But before I had my own ship, I was just a man. And I had three very hungry siblings to look after.

Seems like a packed household you had, that must be fun. Tell me more about them. [Brantley only has one brother. Though he loves him to death, his brother is kinda like an ice cube, always able to keep things cool but sometimes too cool for his own good.]

More packed than that, actually. Had an older sister too. And a mother of course, but she died some years before I came through the Veil. Shaylee and I shared the job of running the house for the little ones. Two boys and a girl to keep us on our toes, we were never with a money to rest most days. But Shay found a man to love and they decided to sneak aboard the first ship I joined up with. I trained them up and made them earn their keep. By the time I had enough coin to buy my own ship, they were the finest crew a man could hope for. Especially little Annabelle. Ah, she was quite the pirate, my sister.

A family bound together by the sea. That really sounds romantic. I have a brother myself. He is always taking care of me, but he's kinda straight up, so not as exciting as your family I guess.

The important part's hardly the adventure. It's taking care of one another. Besides- seems like you found your own taste of adventure here with us.

[ she thought she recognized your voice, thoster (wis 18), so she ducks into the kitchen, attempting to just observe the process for a few minutes (move silently 17) like a creeper. she can't help but smile at his "show", even if he wasn't intending on having an audience.

eventually, during a break in song, she'll clear her throat lightly to make her presence known. ] Has the singing become necessary in order for you to cook a proper meal? [ she's obviously teasing, and she's still got that grin plastered on her face. ] Similar to it's necessity while bathing?

[Thoster glances over his shoulder at the sound of the familiar voice. His face splits into a grin, a booming laugh following.]

Singing comes as natural as air to a man like me! And I've hardly heard complaints for my bathing ballads. Unless this is your way of issuing one?

[socialgraces]

[ she laughs, too, moving closer to where he's making up his food ] I believe this is the first time I've had the pleasure of listening to you sing, actually.

[bluffcheck]

[He chuckles a little.] That so? Well, a certain surly friend of ours doesn't much like my voice. Think that might be why you haven't heard it sooner.

Suppose there's nothing wrong with allowing for some peace and quiet near the personal quarters. [ is her diplomatic response ] Although I happen to think you have a wonderful singing voice.

What is it you're making?

Chicken- with plenty of this and that. [So informative... He steps to one side to let her take a look. It's basically whatever vegetables he could find. Pirates aren't that picky.]

I think the singing makes it taste better, personally. [He winks at her.] Have a seat, if you'd like. There's plenty to share.

The singing certainly can't hurt. [ she moves to sit at the table, b/c who the hell turns down free food?? ] You know, I've taken up baking as of late. I find it soothes the nerves, and is still quite productive, once you know what you're doing.

Never could bake. Now, my sister? She could do wonders in the kitchen when she has the time.
