[ francesca also prefers dusk to dawn and she's currently out jogging, enjoying the fresh spring air. she rounds a corner and spots spike almost immediately, slowing as she approaches him, and offers a smile in greeting. ] That's usually why we leave most of the research to the Dragon's Horde.

Some things you've got to read for yourself. [Souls are pretty personal, okay. He gives her a smile back, but doesn't stand. He'll do the research if it kills him.]

[ she takes off her jacket as well and lays it out beside him, taking a seat as she glances at what he's reading ] Can't say that's something I've ever taken much interest in - souls, I mean. I've always been a little too frightened of where mine may be damned to. But I suppose it's now been proven I do have one.

That makes two of us. [He quirks an eyebrow and puts down the book.] Do Drow not normally have 'em or something?

Oh, no, I suppose they do. They're just generally, you know, evil.

[bigbad]

From what it sounds like, vampires are evil and unsouled so the Drow have a leg up. [Or something. He's not sure which is worse, actually.]

But not you? [ she considers him for a moment ] How's that?

[bigbad]

Bugger if I know. [He shrugs.] Might be something from before the veil. I didn't even know til Jade's mum filled me in.

[ look at that nat 20 wisdom check ] Sehanine? I'm sorry, but... you're going to have to explain that one.

Dunno if I can. We were at Burt's club and she payed us a visit. Told Buffy she had some sort of demon slayer destiny thing, me I have a soul, and let Jade chat with Des and Spaghetti-os.

[He doesn't say anything about her offer to Rafael. That's Rafael's story to tell, not Spike's.

Plus, he's still bitter.]

I'm not certain if I'm glad I missed that or not. Sounds quite daunting. [ nope she's definitely glad she missed the goddess coming down to earth bit.

but back onto the topic of spike. ] I suppose I never really thought about it, but you have a lot of love in your heart, Spike, so I never doubted you had a soul to go along with it.

[bigbad]

Love's not the same thing as soul. [He doesn't know what makes him so certain. If the soul's a new thing, he doesn't remember a time before it, and if it's not, well, he doesn't know what a soul does.] Anyone can love. That's just... living.

I would have to say, I believe one must be necessary to achieve the other. Although, I can't say I know anyone personally who's lacking a soul to begin with.

I take it you don't, either, which is why all this research became necessary?

[bigbad]

Unless Jaka counts. Or Burt.

So what is it exactly you're looking for in all these books? What's the answer you want?

[bigbad]

I don't know. [He glares down at the book like it might offer him some answers.] Probably be easier if I knew the questions.
