Also the phone is ringing, which interrupts his attempt to speak that clearly must have taken him a lot of courage, given the pained look on his face. Before Emma can grab it, he reaches over, picks it up, and disconnects the line, and then leaves it off the hook.

[ she leaves her hand hovering over where the receiver had been for a reactive moment. she finally drops it, closing her hand into a fist. she tilts her head, looking up at him. ]

No, it's not. [He's not touching the manners comment. He has been debating this for a very long time. You don't even know, Swan.] It's about your promotion.

What? Did you think I was going to insist on you being my squire forever, Ms. Swan?

You proved yourself more than capable down there- I think anyone would agree that keeping you on as a squire when you handled yourself like a knight is unfair. [He grimaces.] If it makes you feel better, assume I only did it to spare myself the reputation of being a difficult knight to work with.

All right. [ she's still wildly suspicious. maybe he just wants a new squire that's easier to manipulate. who knows. ] So, how's this work. Do I pick my own sect or am I automatically funneled straight into yours?
