Perched at the edge of any civilized lands, the small lumber town of Falcon's Hollow has always had to rely on itself to solve its  problems.  Now the hacking coughs of the sick are heard throughout the town.  The plague has come to the Hollow, and the town is ill equipped to stop it on its own, particularly given its resistance to magic.

That's where the Knights come in, sent to assist a local herbalist in putting together enough supplies to mass produce a cure.

[Grimrot doesn't, but she takes the note anyway and squints at it for a moment (linguistics 24).] It's in Dwarven. It appears to be a... plea. "Forgive me, dark father of the forge, my toils shall never be enough."

[She glances up at the others.]

Poor man. Appears he was right.

[ logan glances around the chamber with a deepset frown, but doesn't have anything to add to that, finally turning away and moving forward towards the broken open doors ahead.

pews of darkwood lie tipped over and covered in dust on either side of this ancient shrine. at the far end sits a large ceremonial anvil, but its surface is defaced and ruined.

logan's nostrils twitch as he steps inside, his shoes crunching on the rubble. ]

[ abigail apparently has her eyes on the prize with a nat 20 search check. she wants to get the heck out of here and not look back. ]

[Meanwhile, Miles keeps a lookout for nasties since Abigail seems on that. (Listen 18, Spot 16)]

[ both of them notice the pair of floating tentacle creatures roosting on the ceiling above, which means that they don't get a sneak attack round. aww. INIT PLURK INCOMING. ]

[ abigail tries to refrain from squealing in grossed out surprise, but she fails (will save 8) and even as she's pulling one of her knives to chuck at the roosting squids??? she's getting everyone else's (and the creature's) attention. (atk 24, dmg 9) ]

On the ceiling!

[ and she follows it up with throwing her second knife. (atk 24, dmg 6) except now she's out of knives... ]

logan's eyebrows raise as he looks over at abigail, suitably impressed. ] Nice.

[ well abigail just looks surprised tbh, all wide eyes like did i do...??? okay. ]

Thanks. [ she delicately moves forward to pluck her knives free. ] What are they?

[ wolverine got a nat 20 arcane lore check somehow so i guess he's dealt with these in boston before lmao ] Darkmantles. Cave monsters. Let's just be glad you got the jump on 'em or we wouldn't be seeing a thing right now.

abigail's search from earlier is enough to notice a spot on top of the altar containing five small depressions. whatever the altar once held there are gone, however. no mushrooms, though :( ]

[ she leans over to peer at the depressions, lips pursed in thought before she straightens, wiping cave monster guts on her parka before tucking her knives away. ]

There's no mushrooms in here.

[Grimrot examines the altar, just in case she can glean any information about how it may have once been used (knowledge history 14).]

[Nels is going to be keeping an eye on the ceiling for the rest of this little excursion.]

[ grimrot would discern that this had once been a shrine to Moradin, the dwarven All-Father, but that someone defaced the shrine at some point and apparently left it to rot. it seems to have once been used for some kind of healing or purification ritual.

logan looks out of the room, glancing left and right down the halls. he sniffs a bit, and then starts down to the left. the hall turns to the right, and the end of this very long hallway has been destroyed. there's two doors to the left and none on the right, so logan pushes open the first one once everyone is caught up behind him.

this small study looks like it has been lived in recently. gnawed bones litter the floor and tufts of gray fur can be seen here and there. an old stone desk sits in the center of the chamber, scratched and cracked in many places. the stench of wolf fur hangs heavy in the air. logan moves inside cautiously (move silently 12... ok, sort of cautiously) ]

[ abigail steps up behind him with only barely more (move silently 16), giving the room a cursory look around (search 12), and noting the fur with a wrinkled nose.

her voice drops to a whisper. ] Maybe not... this room.

[Miles is doing about as well (move silently 16) but he's not seeing shit (search 8).]

Honestly, it looks about as great as any of the other places we've been today.

[So shitty and dangerous, basically.]

[ there's a low growling noise from behind the desk abruptly, and two gray wolves circle around either side of it towards them, teeth bared. wolverine crouches down immediately, silver claws flashing out as he growls right back. ]

[herebemonsters]

[ the first wolf comes darting out at wolvy, since he's the one threatening them back, but wolverine easily dodges his bite (atk 10) ]

[grimrot]

Oh dear. [Grimrot points her crossbow at the second wolf, but her shot goes pretty wide (atk 7).]

[ oh dear is right. The second wolf lunges for her and lands a critical bite (18 dmg thanks penetration) ]

[ since she's right behind logan, she takes a five foot step around him and slashes at the first wolf. (atk 18, dmg 5) ]

[Aw Hell no. Don't you eat Nels' friends you fucking wolf!]

Vith'os te impsum et lacertam tuum! [Nels curses as he swings for the wolf twice with his magic blade, and again with his offhand shortsword. ATKs: 20, 9, 16. He will boost the damage rolls for the 16 & 20 using his Cunning Insight ability, for a total of 24 Damage. [ nels fucking slices that wolf up o___o it's kind of disturbing as fuck. abigail leaves a nasty gash in the side of the other one and wolverine finishes it off with a well placed slash (atk 34, dmg 23)

[ wiping more blood off on her jeans, abigail gingerly picks her way around the dead wolves, looking at them sadly like poor puppies, before her eyes drift around the room and she gives the desk a good search. (search 18) ]
