Strange transmissions cutting into radio stations with no recognizable source. Mysterious messages in Shadowkind languages that no one's been able to decipher. And very few leads on where to go with all of this, except for a couple names of some of the random citizens who seem to have received the messages. It's hardly much to go on, but definitely an interesting mystery, that takes the small team into the heart of NYC. They arrange their flight to arrive after sundown, for Davin's sake, and he's pretty openly scornful about being assigned to what's likely a wild goose chase.

[ alice takes that nod to mean, "go for it, kid!" so she hurries quietly after him (move silently 30, hide 31) to get in range. once she's close enough, she depressed the trigger and a burst of compressed air fires a pair of darts at the guy. (atk 26, dmg 2) he has to make a fort save (dc 15) or be paralyzed for 5 rounds. hopefully he fails or alice is gonna get shanked.

[ his fort save is a 14! his body wracks with shock, and davin is at his side in a second, grabbing his gun. ]

[ she sags in relief. ] Oh thank god.

[ look, last time that went downright terribly for her and her hand flattens against her torso where the scar from being run through with the sword remains as a lasting mark that she almost died on andres. ]

Grab the fucking bunny. [ she's too busy... breathing and stuff. ]

[And because somebody needs to get the Bunny away from tazed guy and nobody else is doing it, Sawyer is going to edge in and do just that.]

[ since the guy is still paralyzed, davin gets a grapple on him. ] Go!

[ alice makes a grab for matt and the other girl, ushering them away just as davin has instructed, even as she looks back at him to ask: ]

What are you gonna do?

Explain things to him nicely. [ uh huh ]

No. [ sense motive 20 total, i'm sure she didn't need that high tbh to catch that he's being facetious. the single word is not so much a hint of warning as one of those sign spinners dancing in the street with DON'T YOU FUCKING DO IT in big day glow, neon pink letters. in bold. and italics. she's not the mission leader, but fuck if she's going to just stand by and watch unnecessary violence happen. ] Disable him, restrain him, ask him if he's running on the same info we are, and we'll call the cops. He's going to jail, nothing else needs to happen.

[ her lips purse, watching him carefully, before turning and continuing to usher matt and new girl away from the alley so davin can do whatever it is that he's going to do. ]

[Sawyer hesitates, looking between Alice and Davin like; Wait that was actually a possibility here?! But a moment later, with a shake of her head and the Bun Bun rabbit flurgen in hand, she starts to do As Davin had said and saves the, 'so you kill people, huh?' Questions for laters.]

You know if this is what my ma used to go through at Christmas then the woman deserves a medal. All this for a toy. We better find some fucking diamonds sewed into the lining.

Well, let's find out. [ stopping a little ways away from the alley, she holds out her hand for the bunbun from... ] What's your name, anyway?

[With only a moment of hesitation, she hands the rabbit over for inspection, still eyeing the mouth of the alley like she half expects the big guy to show up covered in blood any moment now.]

Sawyer... [Another pointed look that way.] And on a scale of one to ten, exactly how likely is he to kill that guy back there?

she inspects the toy carefully (search 20 total/spot 25 idr which one), careful to disable any traps that she may encounter (disable device 26) or just that annoying demo button it probably has. ] Come on, little monster, what makes you so special?

[ the thing has a power switch and also a motion sensor to turn it on, and contains a library of stories and songs. she would also find, however, that it has a tiny fiber optic camera inside the thing's eyeball. ]

[ once she finds it, she immediately stops peering at it, explaining her findings to matt and sawyer as she turns it over to face the ground. she doesn't seem to care that sawyer's not part of the team. ] Creepy furby has a nanny cam in the eyeball. The thing has a motion sensor, which is what I bet turns the camera on whenever someone walks past it. [ her nose wrinkles. ] Gross. So, weird subliminal messaging to buy the toy, that gets set it up somewhere in your house... and give whoever planned this a handy little view of that house. And when you leave, when it's empty.

[ she sighs heavily. ] When Davin's finished we should check to see if there have been any break ins lately -- and if they happened to have purchased a Bunbun, first.

And I'm guessing that shit isn't advertised on the box, right? I mean you can buy that sort of thing can't you? To keep an eye on the kids. But this is what, bit more creepy, right?

Yeah, this is fucking vile. [ while they wait she's just going to gently text her brother to make sure he didn't actually buy this for her nephew. ]

[recycling]

[ davin slinks up behind them, probably without any of them noticing, speaking up only when he's already standing there, hands in his pockets. ] Did you figure out what's so special about it?

[ alice jumps and turns on him like FFS DUDE MANNERS! before grumbling: ] I'm going to get you a bell. [ grumbles over, she twists the bunbun so he can see it. ] There's a camera hidden in it's eye.

[recycling]

Connected to what?

[icouldbe_bess]

[ she affixes him with a dry look, she's not a techie. ] It didn't say on the box. [ she's not a miracle worker either, okay. ] I'm not sure they can connect to this shit remotely from HQ. Did you get anything from what's-his-face?

[recycling]

[ he looks chagrined a second, glancing at sawyer, uncertain about saying that much in front of her, but finally says: ] He... said his employer's nephew was dying of cancer, and the toy was supposed to be a birthday present for his last birthday ever.

That's what he said in the store. Did he mention who his employer is?
