[ Castle repairs are still well underway, so there's that ever present remaining air of tension in the wake of the attack, but nevertheless it's the holiday season and people want to celebrate.  Any and all holiday season things can go here! ]

[ It's not that Matt is nervous as such, but there's at least a corner of his mind that's bricking it. Christmas has never gone so well for him, his family are hardly the sort to make festivities anything other than stressful. That of course and there's oh, the tiny little fact that he's brought Nate here with him.

He could really do with a drink, but no, he promised not to do that.

As time goes on, Matt relaxes a little, enjoying the festivities. Most of the time he can be found with Nate, sitting closer to each other on a sofa than any friends ever would, but at other times he tries to help out as much as he can, offering help in the kitchen or just about wherever he can. At some point he might even end up with the apron on with 'kiss me, I'm Irish' written on it.

He's pretty pleased about it. ]

[cravating]

[Nate waits until everyone is distracted with drinks and celebrations to sneak over to find Matt in the kitchen and press a quick peck to his cheek while he's got that apron on.]

Only following orders.

[He says, gesturing to the printed words. Still, he hopes that was okay. Matt had said they could be here as a couple, but that doesn't mean he won't run scared once it's a real thing.]

[ Matt's in the middle of piling up some mini sausage rolls onto a tray when Nate approaches him. When he's kissed, he does glance back to see if the door is open. It's not that he's worried people will see, not really, more like a nervous sort of instinct. He's trying to get over it.

He smiles though, maybe glad they aren't being observed, or more likely just glad he's there. ]

Oh and you like following orders, do you? Here, have a sausage roll.

[cravating]

[He catches that look. And he doesn't mind it. Honestly, some people dislike public affection, no matter what, so he can't say that he really minds the glance. The smile is enough to appease him.]

Don't mind if I do. [He picks one up and takes a big bite.] Always happy to take your sausage.

[well... maybe someone convinced him to have a drink or two...]

[ It's enough to make him really laugh. ]

Yeah well in that case you better have another. Though you better not be comparing my dick to a mini sausage roll. You'll give a guy a size complex.

[ Still, he's more than amused, and glad Nate seems to be relaxed. ]

[Nate says nothing about dick size, just raises his eyebrows and gives Matt a Look that should say it all.]

Everyone's really nice. And why didn't you tell me that Finn bloke was gay? Takes a lot of pressure off to not be the first gay person these people have met.

Gay? Is he?[ No he knew that, didn't he? Still, it doesn't seem to make Matt squirm any less. ]

What, have you spoke to him? Do you like him?

[ If he looks awkward or concerned, that's because he is. ]

[cravating]

Like him? I mean- yeah, he's alright. [He gives Matt another look.]

Not like-- Matt, I don't fancy him.

You sure? No-- No course you don't. I'm being a prick. Eat another sausage, babe.

[ He realises it's a stupid idea. Being gay doesn't make you fancy every other bloke. Does it? No, no it doesn't. Grow up, Matthew. ]

So. You mingling and stuff? Keeping your drink topped up?

[cravating]

[Nate glances behind him to make sure that no one's showed up behind him since they started talking. Seeing that they're still alone, he steps up and kisses Matt properly.]

I'm an expert on when you're being a prick. Now isn't one of those times. But you're it for me, yeah? Don't need to worry about that sort of thing.

[byrned]

[ He doesn't shy back from it, doesn't stop and panic where he could do, in fact he reaches his hand up and cups Nate's cheek to return the kiss. He wouldn't really care if anybody walked in. ]

Yeah well keep doing stuff like that and I won't worry about anything.

[ Reaching out, he sets a hand to Nate's hip. ]

I'm glad you came, babe.

[cravating]

Me too. [He smiles in that small, private way that's just for Matt.]

Can I help you with anything in here?

[ He raises his eyebrow suggestively, as though he's about to propose a quick blowie in the kitchen. Luckily, he doesn't. But he's probably thinking it. ]

Nah I'm coming back out now. Just wanted to help with the snacks. That, and I wanted to wear the apron.

[Fairly early in the evening, Andrew finds Matt when Nate has wandered off for food or drink. He just wants a quick moment alone with him.]

How are ya, mate? Holdin up alright?

[He...might be concerned of how Matt is doing with the whole bringing his boyfriend to a family function thing.]

[ Matt is nursing a glass of orange juice as though it's a beautiful single malt. Maybe in his head he wishes it was. He's a little on edge, but doing his best, hoping it'll feel easier soon. When Andrew approaches he looks over and nods. ]

Yeah, yeah no I'm good. Thanks for the invite, man, your folks are great.

[Andrew isn't entirely sure if he believes it, but he's going to just smile and nod.]

He seems like a good bloke, this Nate of yours. Glad you brought him along.

Yeah you like him? You spoke to him much? I think he was a bit nervous of coming over here with a bunch of people he doesn't know.

[ Or Matt was nervous. One of them was nervous. Nerves were involved. ]

Showed him where the loo was a bit ago. Think that counts. [He gives Matt a little smile.] He seems great. And the nerves are natural, I think. Meeting the family and all.

[Because he gets the impression Matt may never take him home to meet his folks, so this is pretty close to official family meeting, isn't it?]

And my da's kept his trousers on so far! All around a great success.

He is great. [ He has to reign himself in a little there, or he knows he'll start going on about him in a way that could be almost embarrassing. He holds back. Though there is a little colour in his cheeks now.

His brow raises. ]

You're expecting him to lose them at some point? He make a habit of stripping off does he?

Just seems to happen. No real reason for it. Just turn around and they're gone. Might want to warn that bloke of yours.

What, you think a bloke drops his trousers and he's not going to be able to stop himself?

[ Matt shoots a glare in Andrew's direction, holding it for a second before... laughing and shoving him against the arm. ]

I'm winding you up mate. Nah I'll tell him. And your folks are good. Trousers or not. Pretty sure I remember your ma from one of the big things when I was a kid. Helped me when I tripped up and split my head, running around like a little twat.

Sounds like her. She likes looking after people, and she's good with blood. Da gets a bit faint around it- not that he would ever admit it.

Yeah well my da would be more likely to draw it. [ He takes in a deep breath and immediately regrets saying something like it's some huge taboo he should keep quiet about. ]

Sorry. Bringing the mood down.

Nah, no worries, mate. Just glad you feel like you can say stuff to me about it. Better that than the alternative. [That's how he sees it, at least.]

Yeah. Yeah I s'pose. [ It's weird to him though, he's not used to talking about shit. Bottling up everything is something he has down to an art form. ]
